Photos in iMessage disappeared after ios13 update

After updating to iOS 13, all photos previously sent and received through iMessage are gone. Has anyone else encountered this issue and found a solution?

I am experiencing the same: After the update to iOS 13.0, photos sent and received under iOS 12.x are not present under "info" in imessage (but they are if I scroll up through the message history). If I send or receive a photo after the update, they are present in the "info" section. Is this a known bug? Known fix?

I realized I’m also having this issue! I went back to find a funny picture my boyfriend had sent me and every photo is gone, except maybe the last four. It doesn’t even give me the option to download within the message thread. I when I open the box of where a picture would be it just says JPEG Along with numbers of the photo. No option to open or download. It did give the option to “download from iCloud” but still nothing downloaded. These pictures are very important to me... hoping for a fix. I thought maybe because he had a different phone brand... guess not. I also have an iphone 6 but running 12.4.6 so maybe not an update issue?

I have been on and off with Apple support over the last couple weeks....after several phone calls, they indicated that this is a engineering issue and could be quite some time before it is fixed. but "the ticket is in". Not all Iphone users are experiencing. We are just the lucky ones. Will be very upsetting if they don't come back. Not only is the history of pictures gone, the current ones then seem to disappear after a few days.

Yep I have done support for this since nov 12

countless hours and nothing works!

they don’t care-

an engineer told me that until Apple itself does an update to get the photos to index - it won’t happen.

bottom line/ they did it so we all have “bought giant GB phones and they don’t want us to have use of all the gb stored on the phone but purchase more cloud space”

i hate it and more are having to upgrade and more cases. Nothing will be done until there are way more people calling and posting.

I see a class action suit coming -

apple sold us big price tag phones for 512gb and nothing from text can utilize the space

-it’s our photos to decide and they are gone unless you keep scrolling.

I have loved Apple until this update.

I just came across this issue today and I’m surprised to see it’s been running as long as it has with so many affected people. I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max and have no issues with the messages showing the photos with the “i” Last night however I synced my messages from the cloud to my new iPad Pro 11 and even though the messages in my iPad take up several GB meaning all the photos and videos have downloaded, clicking on the “i” doesn’t show any photos. What a bummer! Now I’m going to try to unsync and resync again. Very disappointing from Apple.

I have had this issue since updating iOS 13. All message attachments that had been sent or received (photos, files, links, etc) disappeared from the “i” tab of each message thread. It is so inconvenient to not be able to access photos I received from someone within their message thread. The problem recurred when I updated to 13.4.1 and I again lost all the attachments that had accumulated since I updated to 13. I’ve tried every fix in the book. Scoured the internet, no luck.

When I first noticed the problem, I spent hours on the phone with Apple. Escalated to engineers, talked to senior tech on the phone multiple times per week. That ended then they said it has been reported and they were working on it - this was October 2019.

I recently got a new iPhone 11 and set it up as a new phone (not from a backup) hoping to circumvent any software problems on my last phone (iPhone 7+). Unfortunately, once I signed in to iCloud, I have the exact same problem. Photos will not download from iCloud within the message app.

Best I can tell is this is actually an iCloud issue. I think there is a bug in some of our accounts in the connection between the cloud and our phones. This has been infuriating to say the least and I really just want my pictures back on my phone.

So awful I had the nightmare start on January 17 after buying a new phone and upgrading I got some things back on February by April 30 I was having issues again by May 14 I went from ringworm to another and all of a sudden all of my indexing a Photos was gone in messages from my mom and from my children missing from over four years no matter how many times I restore factory reset a sign in and out of iCloud back iCloud back up to iTunes or back up to the cloud nothing comes back it is the worst thing ever and hours and hours and hours spent on Apple support with no answers. All I know is I have more than four years of lost memories and photos in attachments and text messages that I cannot recover! I am not sure that I will ever go back to an iPhone once this one is paid off

I didn’t have the problem until I upgraded my device and software. I had the 7plus, and then I upgraded to the 11Pro. It shows me that there’s things in the cloud and it’ll tell me to download, but then when I hit the download button, nothing happens. Or it’ll pretend to download but then none of the photos appear. But if I scroll through the messages the photos are there that I know should be in the info thread.

I have the 11 pro max 256g with 200MB of iCloud and this started back in October when I bought the phone I have been bought another one because I am with T-Mobile and I have a program where you can jump. Ever since 13.0 and the indexing it crashed - I did have the same issue or I should say that’s a blessing at this point where I could scroll through and see the messages in the attachments in the messages without the indexing but I May 14 all of that crashed with about 10 to 15 people in my contacts and I have nothing no text messages and no attachments for over four years!! Apple needs to get this fixed!!! It’s awful ... countless hours with support - 15 apple tickets - and nothing!!!

So, what about the issue? anybody managed to get the photos. For me it is worse, if i scroll in a conversion i see the option to download pics and videos but when click to download nothing happens. Is is true i`m talking about pics and videos send for more than 6 months, but still, would expect to be able to download them as i have i message backup-ed on icloud.

Nobody from support here that can help?
