Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT

Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

When I'm trying to delete an email out of the Mail app it looks like it is deleting, but then doesn't delete

When I'm trying to delete an email out of the Mail app (specifically a "live/Hotmail" account) in iOS 13, it looks like it is deleting, but then doesn't delete. I have to press the delete button again for it to actually delete. Anyone else having issues with this? I deleted and re-added the affected account, but it still does it.

Thanks!

No fix but if you can open a case and the more complaints the better. In regards to doing what they ask restoring device etc please explain that there is no point in doing this as it doesn’t rectify the issue but just wastes time. Make them aware of this forum post and how many people have issues don’t hang up until you have a case opened.

The issue has just disappeared over night. I woke up on Oct 17 and everything was back to normal on iPhone X and 2018 iPad Pro 11"

  1. Don't have to hit trash can twice to delete
  2. Sent mails not showing as sent twice
  3. Everything is working faster - no waiting for an email to download
  4. Tested throughout morning on multiple connections and many speeds - quick responses are holding up. No clue what changed but so happy the email is working effectively again.

Adding my voice to the chorus on mail. Multiple issues:

  1. Have to read the mail several times before it is marked as "read."
  2. Delays in sending/receiving.
  3. Multiple copies of sent mail appearing in "Sent" folder.

Come on Apple - there are many good new features of this update, but I live and die by mail for work and this is just painful. So close to switching to Android over this. Mail is my most used feature and now I'm frustrated every time I use it.

Please fix!!!!!!

Did that and will continue to report what's happening until a fix is provided.

Since my original post, I upgraded to 13.2.2 but like most others, relief is either temporary or the problem still persists. Having tried 13.2.2 for a few days now, here is what I've experienced:

  • sent items still appear twice
  • I've seen more sync issues between my Outlook/Exchange Server 2016 mail account and the Mail app on my iPhone and iPad Pro to the point where a message that gets deleted on one device orphans on the other, and the only way to get rid of the orphan message is to delete and re-add the account on the device with the orphaned message. Happens about once every 3-4 days. What a royal pain to say the least.
  • Have to delete some emails twice but less frequently it seems.
  • After reading the first message, the Unread indicator disappears after a few seconds automatically. Deleting the email then works the first time. When the next message appears, the Unread indicator does not disappear until you physical touch the screen in some way. Then delete works (usually once) but not always (3 times out of 5 I would say).

NONE of this behaviour existed prior to iOS 13.

I've had to delete and re-add my Exchange account on my iPhone and/or iPad 3x over the past week to remove messages that won't delete despite the fact they are 100% gone from the Inbox on my Outlook account.

All in the name of progress ...

I am running iOS 13.1 and have the same issue. I have two email accounts linked to my Apple Mail. I have no problem deleting email send to my personal Gmail account.

But if I open an email from my work Exchange account then I need to tap delete twice.

Note that if I am in the list view then I can swipe left and delete without any problem. It’s only when I actually open the message that I have to press the delete button twice.

Just downloaded iOS 13.1.1 and it seems to have fixed the Exchange message double-delete issue for me.

I couldn't find official Apple link that describes all the fixes but this link doesn't mention any fix for Apple Mail

I'm just amazed that Apple has released two updates already to iOS 13 in less than a week. How many bugs are there? When is the next update coming? Sheeesh.

Interesting …...

As discussed above, issues were not resolved for me yesterday using 13.1.2, restart, mail account deletion and fresh set-up etc. but all seems OK today? Intermittent issue, or perhaps Microsoft has changed something at their Server end (Outlook.com)???

Will keep monitoring.....

Forgot to say, I'm using iPhone 7.

I first saw this on my Iphone 11 Pro. Then I upgraded a separate Iphone X from IOS 12.4.1 to IOS 13.1.2. With both phones on IOS 13.1.2 and Microsoft Exchange mail set on both. Only the Iphone 11 Pro requires it to be deleted twice. The Iphone X setup with the same mail account only requires 1 delete. I ran tests by sending 4 separate mails which were exactly the same, which went to both phones. First test deleted off Iphone 11 Pro, required 2 deletes. Next deleted off Iphone X, only 1 delete required. Repeated and same results.

When I'm trying to delete an email out of the Mail app it looks like it is deleting, but then doesn't delete
