Apple Pay not working after IOS 13 update

Thanks! Allowing Wallet access in Settings>Touch ID & Passcode>"Allow Access When Closed" solved the issue for me.

My region was already set to US. However, I went to set it to US again, and saved it (Settings -> General -> Language & Region) and then it started working. Weird bug

I understand your explanation why “Allow Access...” should not be involved with this problem, but Apple Pay on my SE is now working, and several others responding to this stream have indicated that after turning Wallet to On under “Access...” has solved their problem. I have seen no updates to iOS 13 on my iPhone since Friday, 20 September.

Long experience with any software/logic based devices is that somethings just don’t make sense.

After several attempts to pay today I finally got some clue.

It seems that NFC sensor in iPhones became too sensitive (software/driver bug) with ios13 update. Try to hold your iPhone 6-7cm(2 inches) straight away from the reader (do not push it closer), and Apple Pay works. A bit tricky, but.. Hope it helps.

I have same problem on SE updated to iOS 13 on Friday, which had worked fine up until after the update.

Locked screen showed unlock key pad when placed close to Point of Sale (POS) device, then went to normal Home Screen when unlocked. Never went to Apple Pay screen.

Called Apple Support. After testing online, determined NFC chip functioning correctly.

Found Settings>Touch ID & Passcode>"Allow Access When Closed" defaulted to OFF. Reset to ON.

Unfortunately, cannot test until I access a POS device later in week.

Have similar problem with 6 and 6 Plus when updated to 12.4 in last few months. Thought old phones were dying. Apple Support tested both phones online, determined NFC chip functioning correctly. Will continue trying to recover those with resets and possible 8 hour round trip to Apple Store.

I found a slight answer. I remember apple create the ‘raise to wake’ feature because Touch ID was too fast. Looks like the timing has gone off again on iOS13 as about 70% of the time a double click will unlock the phone, not access Apple Pay.

The fix - you can always access Apple pay by swiping down from the top of the screen (when unlocked) then double tapping the home button. More reliable than trying 10 times to access it from the lock screen

I toggled Apple Pay and Wallet and fixed it for me. iPhone 7

I found out this morning if I use my thumb to do Apple Pay it will unlock my phone. If I use my finger, it will open up Apple Pay. I think it is registering my thumb print to unlock it, we’re my finger print is not registered to unlock it.

If you take the time to call Apple Support, they can remotely test the NFC chip. Not saying this fixed all my problems, but iphone6 and 6Plus that I was having Apple Pay trouble with both started working after they were tested and declared working ok.

Apple products are expensive, but I have always received excellent support.

I had the same issue. Went to the apple store and they did some testing to which showed everything was fine. They asked me to delete and add the cards again which even didn’t work then they did a factory reset on my iphone still same issue.

Apple support person replaced my iphone free of cost even though my iphone 7 plus was out of warranty.

Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Wallet ON

Try accessing Apple Pay with another finger, that is not registered with touch ID, then validate with touch ID (the fingers that are working for unlocking) - temporary fix

Check under touch and passcode, enable the wallet under allow access when unlocked.

After update this option got unchecked due to which i was facing this issue. After enabling it again started working.

You are absolutely correct! I was mistakenly looking for this under ”Wallet & Apple Pay “ menu. I didn’t realize that “allow access” is also listed under “Touch ID & passcode” menu as well, which is the correct place to look for.

This actually resolved the problem on my I phone 7 plus as well:)
