Playlist Art on iPhone after IOS 13

Hello,

Is anyone else encountering the issue of playlist art not showing the correct album art on the iPhone after updating to IOS 13? Yesterday, I updated my old iPhone X to the new IOS and it messed up the album art on my playlists on my iPhone. I just purchased the iPhone 11 Pro today and I was hoping would the issue wouldn’t be there but it still persists. In fact, it seems to randomly select a covert art for a playlist each time I open the music app. However, when I click on the actually playlist the correct album art is there. I know this is minor issue for some, but it is annoying the crap out of me right now lol.

I’m old school in that I manage all of my music via iTunes on windows and I don’t use the cloud at all. I just prefer to do it this way because I have a ton of music that I imported years ago via CD from back in my high school days. Anyone encountering this issue currently? I’ve tried re-syncing all of the music on my phone several times, uninstalling iTunes on my pc and reinstalling it, and cleaning the cache. I’ve had this happen in the past but can’t remember what I did to fix it. The album art is correct on my pc, and correct once I select a playlist on my phone. It’s just wrong when I’m looking at all of my playlists on my phone.

Best,

iPhone X

My playlist art, once I moved to iOS13.1 and later to 13.2 were scrambled and incorrect. I finally solved this by adding the artwork that I wanted for the playlist in iTunes and then re-syncing the phone.

Step-by-step

1) In iTunes, choose Music to see all your playlists on the left side.

2) Select the playlist that has the wrong cover on your phone so that the playlist and songs appear in the right pane.

3) Double-click the album art on the top of that list (yes it works) and a popup window will allow you to select an image. Just select an image that you want. I used a 500x500 pixel jpg or png image that I copied from one of the songs in the playlist.

4) Do this for all the playlists that you have.

5) Sync your phone

This worked for me - after trying unsuccessfully to solve by

1) changing all the artwork on each song,

2) deleting all music and re-synching,

3) deleting the Album Art cache and rebuilding.

Since I had to get an iPhone 11 three days after it’s release due to my iPhone 7 battery dying again I only put one playlist on the 11. I’m going on an unplanned road trip so I started putting more playlists on. I’m not saying this is a solution but it works. I edited in new artwork on the playlist from iPhone screenshots. It does work but of course too time consuming. Like many here I have a sh*tload of playlists. I’ve added 41 more playlists editing in the new artwork right away with no issues besides the time it took to do it. I’m waiting for the bug to get fixed before adding anymore playlists. I just have too many to go through them like that. It shouldn’t have to be that hard. If I NEED to add another list I’ll just edit in the new art.

Being that you updated to the latest iTunes on Windows.... when you open it, does it start to sync the album art? Because what it looks like to me, is that it needs to get the art from online, and when that is done syncing, THEN sync the iPhone which should (theoretically) update all the art to the correct art.

I was only able to test this on Mac and following those steps solved the problem

I contacted Apple Support again and finally requested to escalate the issue to a Supervisor.

I had a call with a Supervisor, who admitted that Apple is aware of this problem.

I also mentioned I am a Windows 10 User and Catalina is not an option.

He promised Apple is working on the issue, and to keep up with the iOS updates.

Time will tell ...

Side note:

The Supervisor asked me to check a few things, and I noticed that only the Playlist view has the random art issue.

If I instead view by Album/Artist, the artwork is fine.

Everyone here already confirmed the artwork for the individual songs have not been affected.

As someone here wrote, buying an app - CS Music app - makes it clear!

Immediately!

You have than again the right covers in your playlist.

It cost 3 euros.

That was worth it for me, instead of losing hours and hours (at least 4 hours a day, during 6 days) with apple "support".

Enough is enough.

Everyone has to decide this for himself. CS Music app. I guess they will sell a lot ...

Apple, one more thing: I DO NOT move to Catalina, forget it!

That works initially, but once you start using the Music app again the cover art starts to scramble again. The issue seems to be within the iOS Music app itself.

I re-synced my playlists three times in iTunes and the cover art always displayed properly the first time I re-opened them in the Music app, but once you start using the Music app the cover art scrambles again.

That was the first thing I tried when it happened, and then I tried it many, many more times.

Doing a hard refresh may correct some of the cover art but once you start using the music app again they go straight back to randomizing themselves.

Word is that the issue is fixed in the 13.3.1 beta so hopefully once it is fully released this issue will be no more.
