Playlist Art on iPhone after IOS 13

Hello,

Is anyone else encountering the issue of playlist art not showing the correct album art on the iPhone after updating to IOS 13? Yesterday, I updated my old iPhone X to the new IOS and it messed up the album art on my playlists on my iPhone. I just purchased the iPhone 11 Pro today and I was hoping would the issue wouldn’t be there but it still persists. In fact, it seems to randomly select a covert art for a playlist each time I open the music app. However, when I click on the actually playlist the correct album art is there. I know this is minor issue for some, but it is annoying the crap out of me right now lol.

I’m old school in that I manage all of my music via iTunes on windows and I don’t use the cloud at all. I just prefer to do it this way because I have a ton of music that I imported years ago via CD from back in my high school days. Anyone encountering this issue currently? I’ve tried re-syncing all of the music on my phone several times, uninstalling iTunes on my pc and reinstalling it, and cleaning the cache. I’ve had this happen in the past but can’t remember what I did to fix it. The album art is correct on my pc, and correct once I select a playlist on my phone. It’s just wrong when I’m looking at all of my playlists on my phone.

Best,

iPhone X

My playlist art, once I moved to iOS13.1 and later to 13.2 were scrambled and incorrect. I finally solved this by adding the artwork that I wanted for the playlist in iTunes and then re-syncing the phone.

Step-by-step

1) In iTunes, choose Music to see all your playlists on the left side.

2) Select the playlist that has the wrong cover on your phone so that the playlist and songs appear in the right pane.

3) Double-click the album art on the top of that list (yes it works) and a popup window will allow you to select an image. Just select an image that you want. I used a 500x500 pixel jpg or png image that I copied from one of the songs in the playlist.

4) Do this for all the playlists that you have.

5) Sync your phone

This worked for me - after trying unsuccessfully to solve by

1) changing all the artwork on each song,

2) deleting all music and re-synching,

3) deleting the Album Art cache and rebuilding.

You’re in the right group. I’ve read on the other threads Mac and iPad users with iTunes music in their playlists are experiencing the same issue. That’s why I thought at first they might get this bug fixed faster. Obviously they are stuck or don’t care enough to make it a priority yet. I can’t wait to read several posts saying the bug has been fixed.

I used to have the issue with being told that I couldn't play my (purchased) music without an Apple Music subscription. I'd tried to sign up for the free trial of Apple Music in 2016, but I had no money in my account so it couldn't verify, and so I never completed the process. For 2 years after that it would randomly refuse to play songs, and I'd have to delete them from my phone and iTunes, redownload them, and resync. I ended up talking with a support person on the phone for about 2 hours, and they repeatedly told me that I'd never had an Apple music subscription (as I literally sent them screenshots of the Apple Music ad telling me to RENEW my subscription), but somehow after all that it was fixed, so I think that there was some weird backdoor method they used to fix it. One of the issues with resyncing was that I hid all of my music after they removed the option to see only music downloaded to the phone in the settings, so I had to unhide every song I was resyncing. If you have copies of your music on a computer maybe a similar solution will fix your issue?

In regards to the playlist artwork, I tweeted Apple and Apple Support and they DM'd me for further details, and their last response was: "Thank you for reporting the problem to us. We've heard reports of the issue you're describing, and it's currently under review. We don't have a solution at this time, but recommend that you keep your device up-to-date."

Just found a solution.

I start a three month trial time for Apple Music.

Even I switch off the function to replace titles already on the phone, Apple Music seems to check the songs and covers and start to replace my playlist cover with the original cover.

Covers from Playlists without Music available by Apple aren't touch.

Now Apple has 3 months to fix issue before I cancel the subscription. 😉

So..

It looks as if artwork in the Recently Added section has been corrected. The artwork now matches the artists/albums. I'm running iOS 13.1.2 and Catalina.

The problem only occurred in the Recently Added section whereas artwork matched the artist in every other category.

What I will say is before I did a back up, I erased all music from my phone and then re-synced my selected playlists.

After having many conversations with Apple Support over this and them offering no solution or acknowledging that it's an actual bug, I tried plugging my iPhone into my laptop and re-syncing the playlists that way.

It worked for the first time I opened my playlists on my iPhone, the cover art was back to normal, but then the second time I opened the Music app it went back to scrambling the cover art so I'm guessing that the issue is with the actual iOS Music app.

  1. Upgraded to iOS 13.2 on iPhone 10 XS Max
  2. Completely re-synced my playlists using iTunes on Windows 10 (removed all playlists, then re-synced)
  3. Still the problem persists

I will call Apple Support again and ask to speak to a Supervisor again.

The last Supervisor I spoke to admitted Apple is aware of this issue.

I'd rather Apple admit they're not planning to address this issue rather than continue on with false hope.

I'm guessing that Apple are aware of the issue as it seems a lot of people have the issue and as the Apple Support person I spoke to said, it has been reported by multiple users.

Perhaps it isn't an easy fix and there's more to it. I work in IT and sometimes what seems like a simple issue on the surface can be quite complex to fix. I have my fingers crossed that Apple are aware it is happening to more and more users and are working on a fix for a future update. Until then, the only thing we can do is keep them aware that the issue is still happening and that may help push it up the priority ladder for bug fixes.

I think the best thing to do is to keep contacting Apple Support about it as I don't think they pay much mind to forum threads like this.

If more and more people report it directly to Apple Support then they'll likely address it quicker. I've been constantly talking to them via live chat and even though I get a generic "our technical team will look into this" reply, I won't stop bugging them until it gets addressed in one way or another.

If they get more people doing the same thing then they'll realize its not just a localized few people with the issue.

Get on to them people and lets get this sorted out! :-)

It's really easy and all automatic. Everything from Apple Music just appears (correctly) in CS Music. It was the best $3 I ever spent! It's not really a new platform. It's just a different front-end for the music program, and MAN does it work great! The only thing I have not tried, and not even sure if it can be done, is making changes from CS music to the music database. You might still need the Apple music program or iTunes for that.

I posted this a couple times but it does take some time. I had to get a new phone soon after this issue. I change the playlist artwork through Amazon or Discogs screen shots similar to the way Apple mentioned to you but go into my photos. I haven’t had any problems since. I have the iPhone 11Pro Max. Don’t know if that makes a difference. I use Windows iTunes though. After I put a playlist on my phone I edit the playlist artwork right away. I have about 400 playlists. Still have to add at least 50-100 more. I’m not sure how many playlists I gad on my iPhone 7.
