Playlist Art on iPhone after IOS 13

Hello,

Is anyone else encountering the issue of playlist art not showing the correct album art on the iPhone after updating to IOS 13? Yesterday, I updated my old iPhone X to the new IOS and it messed up the album art on my playlists on my iPhone. I just purchased the iPhone 11 Pro today and I was hoping would the issue wouldn’t be there but it still persists. In fact, it seems to randomly select a covert art for a playlist each time I open the music app. However, when I click on the actually playlist the correct album art is there. I know this is minor issue for some, but it is annoying the crap out of me right now lol.

I’m old school in that I manage all of my music via iTunes on windows and I don’t use the cloud at all. I just prefer to do it this way because I have a ton of music that I imported years ago via CD from back in my high school days. Anyone encountering this issue currently? I’ve tried re-syncing all of the music on my phone several times, uninstalling iTunes on my pc and reinstalling it, and cleaning the cache. I’ve had this happen in the past but can’t remember what I did to fix it. The album art is correct on my pc, and correct once I select a playlist on my phone. It’s just wrong when I’m looking at all of my playlists on my phone.

Best,

iPhone X

My playlist art, once I moved to iOS13.1 and later to 13.2 were scrambled and incorrect. I finally solved this by adding the artwork that I wanted for the playlist in iTunes and then re-syncing the phone.

Step-by-step

1) In iTunes, choose Music to see all your playlists on the left side.

2) Select the playlist that has the wrong cover on your phone so that the playlist and songs appear in the right pane.

3) Double-click the album art on the top of that list (yes it works) and a popup window will allow you to select an image. Just select an image that you want. I used a 500x500 pixel jpg or png image that I copied from one of the songs in the playlist.

4) Do this for all the playlists that you have.

5) Sync your phone

This worked for me - after trying unsuccessfully to solve by

1) changing all the artwork on each song,

2) deleting all music and re-synching,

3) deleting the Album Art cache and rebuilding.

Hi @DeadGlory

Thanks for letting us know.

I tried deleting/restoring just one playlist, but it didn't work.

Maybe the trick is to delete EVERYTHING off the phone?

I've backed up most of my Playlists into .txt files, so hopefully I don't need to create new ones.

but I'm still going to wait for iOS 13.2+ before taking such drastic measures ... I'm sure others with a HUGE number of playlists will not be impressed with this workaround.

Decided to bite the bullet and decided to delete all the music from my iPhone XS Max.

Oddly enough, even though I used iTunes to also delete the playlists off my phone, my phone still had empty playlists in the Music app ... I manually deleted them.

As I had backed up my playlists, I then re-synced the playlists with iTunes on Windows 10.

STILL MESSED UP !

If Apple doesn't address this, I guess I'll have to get used to going by playlist name instead of by album art.

I've actually tried contact Support several times thru chats ... they all act like they've never heard of this before ...

I have suggested to Apple that they delete the artwork on the Playlist altogether and just have list of names. Seems easy enough, but they don’t respond to a single user. Others that say to create a new Playlist and delete the old one, that doesn’t work either. As I scroll down the Playlist and back, the artwork changes. BTW, as a user we have no choice of Playlist artwork. Software chooses it.

Since updating to IOS 13.1 from 12.4.1 last week on my iPad Pro (purchased last year) my artwork in

music playlists keeps changing.  I have the same problem as ...

On page 5 of the thread above it concerns me when someone says they phoned apple support and was told they had not heard of it.  There has been no mention of this except at

Please fix this.

I’m not 100% convinced that updating to Catalina is going to solve the issue... as the issue happened to me right after updating to iOS 13 without even syncing it with my Mac. However, it is possible there may be code in iOS 13 that is written for Catalina so that when you sync, the software On the iOS device and the computer are back in sync with each other. However, if that is not the case, do not expect a quick fix on this. Being that they are doing away with iTunes and rolling out this whole new system, they aren’t going to care about this until that is all laid out. I am thinking about updating my Mac that I sync my music with to Catalina and seeing if it works. I will let you all know!!!!!

Don't feel bad. It's not just Windows users. I've been using a Mac for a while and my album art is ALL OVER THE PLACE! This is the weirdest glitch that I can remember. On top of that, some of my latest music that I downloaded just disappeared from my phone. Even though I hadn't even connected my phone since the update, the music just vanished! It was still in my iTunes library, but was grayed out. Thankfully, it came back after I did a sync, but still...this is really annoying! Every time I do a sync, the album art jumps around in a different way, and it is never correct. I hope they have a whole team dedicated to fixing this ASAP!
