Playlist Art on iPhone after IOS 13

Hello,

Is anyone else encountering the issue of playlist art not showing the correct album art on the iPhone after updating to IOS 13? Yesterday, I updated my old iPhone X to the new IOS and it messed up the album art on my playlists on my iPhone. I just purchased the iPhone 11 Pro today and I was hoping would the issue wouldn’t be there but it still persists. In fact, it seems to randomly select a covert art for a playlist each time I open the music app. However, when I click on the actually playlist the correct album art is there. I know this is minor issue for some, but it is annoying the crap out of me right now lol.

I’m old school in that I manage all of my music via iTunes on windows and I don’t use the cloud at all. I just prefer to do it this way because I have a ton of music that I imported years ago via CD from back in my high school days. Anyone encountering this issue currently? I’ve tried re-syncing all of the music on my phone several times, uninstalling iTunes on my pc and reinstalling it, and cleaning the cache. I’ve had this happen in the past but can’t remember what I did to fix it. The album art is correct on my pc, and correct once I select a playlist on my phone. It’s just wrong when I’m looking at all of my playlists on my phone.

Best,

iPhone X

My playlist art, once I moved to iOS13.1 and later to 13.2 were scrambled and incorrect. I finally solved this by adding the artwork that I wanted for the playlist in iTunes and then re-syncing the phone.

Step-by-step

1) In iTunes, choose Music to see all your playlists on the left side.

2) Select the playlist that has the wrong cover on your phone so that the playlist and songs appear in the right pane.

3) Double-click the album art on the top of that list (yes it works) and a popup window will allow you to select an image. Just select an image that you want. I used a 500x500 pixel jpg or png image that I copied from one of the songs in the playlist.

4) Do this for all the playlists that you have.

5) Sync your phone

This worked for me - after trying unsuccessfully to solve by

1) changing all the artwork on each song,

2) deleting all music and re-synching,

3) deleting the Album Art cache and rebuilding.

I wish there was a fix without having to update to Catalina (which I do not want to do). They are doing away with iTunes, and applications support such as Creative Suite CS5 which I still use and this would create a bigger problem for me rather than mismatched artwork. Apple really should do a fix within their next update but they want to force people to Catalina and newer osx's so older computers and phones become obsolete.

I believe I know the iCloud/Apple ID problem of which you speak. It keeps asking you to update info over and over again?

I spent hours on the phone with them, without resolution. My iPad and all my Mac OS devices updated did this.

What finally fixed it was signing out of iCloud on the device and then signing back in.

Give that a shot.

These releases are a disappointing mess. I’m sorry I upgraded any of my devices. Just noticed this music/artwork issue today on my iPhone.

IOS 13.1.2 is a mess. This is just one of the glitches. All my iTunes playlists on my iPhone now have a bogus picture. The ones on my laptop and iPad are fine. And how about deleting that email? Have to hit the back arrow and then trash can. Nothing like another step. I also do not like the new volume adjust display -- what is max and min? How about deleting an app? Hold down on app, menu pops up, hit "rearrange," then you get the little circle x. Has then been an exodus from Microsoft? Ughhhhly.

Yep, just happened to me on iOS 13.1 on my new 11 Pro. Didn’t happen on my old 7+ on iOS 13, just after I transferred everything. Tv shows showing artwork from other tv shows, or showing album covers from my music library...what a mess. The TV app has been crap for longer than the podcast app, and seems to be getting worse with each iOS improvement.

I fixed this problem over a month ago by deleting all my music, uninstalling iTunes and recreating it all. And now it is all messed up again. It's really annoying to look for a Beatles playlist and miss it because it has cover art from a 1990's Opera album. At this point I would rather not have ANY artwork associated with music; artwork is a disabler not an enabler.

"sometimes what seems like a simple issue on the surface can be quite complex to fix..."

True.

IMO, the issue could also be related to the fact that the iOS 13 Music app on the device might be optimized for Apple Music on Catalina - and not so much iTunes. And, since Apple has already stated they are moving away from iTunes, I am not optimistic there is too much importance being placed on what is effectively 'backwards compatibility' with their older platform. As a Windows PC user, I will have to continue to use iTunes for the foreseeable future anyway, so I wanted to fix this issue.

At this point, I have fully embraced the 3rd party app I am using, and actually prefer it to the native app since I don't feel like a Luddite for not streaming my music, or using the cloud... And while some people have found potential ways to resolve the issue, I have 100+ playlists, and it was definitely worth the $3 NOT to have to edit them all!

Like I said before - I'd love for Apple to fix this issue - not because I love the Music app so much, but because it would show commitment to fixing things that detract from the user experience of their products.

Thanks!

I do not understand why people here still are trying to "solve" a bug problem from apple.

You are losing your time.

And if you call apple, it is even worse. I did it and others did it. Does not help a thing.

As we all know, there is a quick and cheap solution.

CS Music.

Buy it and then wait until apple - one fine day - might rewrite their s..t.

I will not upgrade do Catalina. And I will not buy any "new" hardware so soon.

Or they start acting like a innovative firm again, or they can forget me. At least as long as my stuff works.

I'm experiencing the same issue on an iPhone 11 running iOS 13.2.3, with most of the album artwork incorrect (despite it all being correct on my Mac). This is after deleting all the music off the phone and resyncing a playlist from iTunes on my Mac (I haven't upgraded to Catalina and the separate Music app on my Mac yet.) Before I resynced, the album art was correct (I'd migrated all my data to the new phone from an older one.) Very frustrating, and the artwork is wrong everywhere, not just when viewing Downloaded Music or the synced Playlist. It's also wrong in two other music apps I use on my phone - Ecoute and TunesFlow (which I use specifically for the album art). The same wrong artwork shows up each time I open the app, even after a restart or forced reboot. It seems like a new issue in iOS 13.

I have same problem. now on version 13.3 and still not fixed. contacted apple and they even took control of my phone and could see the problem for themselves. they said it would be reported to there tech team and that I should wait for an update that would hopefully fix it. well that was one iTunes update and one ios 13 update ago and problem persist. very frustrating. I do use iTunes for windows and they assured me that didn't matter. curious if anyone else is still having the same problem.

For me, it's better with 13.3.1, not not fixed. Most of the playlists in Music now show correct -- or at least not wildly wrong -- art/icons. I scrolled through after the update and didn't see things that were obviously wrong, but I didn't go through everything in detail. I saw a few things that didn't look right, but I haven't had a chance to compare the artwork on my iPhone against that in iTunes yet.

Video/TV show playlists in the TV app (also imported through iTunes) are still wrong, though, for me.

Still, a (partial?) fix is better than nothing.
