Playlist Art on iPhone after IOS 13

Hello,

Is anyone else encountering the issue of playlist art not showing the correct album art on the iPhone after updating to IOS 13? Yesterday, I updated my old iPhone X to the new IOS and it messed up the album art on my playlists on my iPhone. I just purchased the iPhone 11 Pro today and I was hoping would the issue wouldn’t be there but it still persists. In fact, it seems to randomly select a covert art for a playlist each time I open the music app. However, when I click on the actually playlist the correct album art is there. I know this is minor issue for some, but it is annoying the crap out of me right now lol.

I’m old school in that I manage all of my music via iTunes on windows and I don’t use the cloud at all. I just prefer to do it this way because I have a ton of music that I imported years ago via CD from back in my high school days. Anyone encountering this issue currently? I’ve tried re-syncing all of the music on my phone several times, uninstalling iTunes on my pc and reinstalling it, and cleaning the cache. I’ve had this happen in the past but can’t remember what I did to fix it. The album art is correct on my pc, and correct once I select a playlist on my phone. It’s just wrong when I’m looking at all of my playlists on my phone.

Best,

iPhone X

My playlist art, once I moved to iOS13.1 and later to 13.2 were scrambled and incorrect. I finally solved this by adding the artwork that I wanted for the playlist in iTunes and then re-syncing the phone.

Step-by-step

1) In iTunes, choose Music to see all your playlists on the left side.

2) Select the playlist that has the wrong cover on your phone so that the playlist and songs appear in the right pane.

3) Double-click the album art on the top of that list (yes it works) and a popup window will allow you to select an image. Just select an image that you want. I used a 500x500 pixel jpg or png image that I copied from one of the songs in the playlist.

4) Do this for all the playlists that you have.

5) Sync your phone

This worked for me - after trying unsuccessfully to solve by

1) changing all the artwork on each song,

2) deleting all music and re-synching,

3) deleting the Album Art cache and rebuilding.

I have 13.1 public beta, and the problem still existed. However, Apple will surely fix it soon. For my playlists of same artist, I used a picture of the artist, and for same genre playlists, I used fun, stylized images that reads “Jazz” or “80’s” or whatever. I know its not a great solution, but I found it interesting, and thought someone else might find it useful.

I have a temporary fix but it’s time consuming. I had to get a new phone since my iPhone 7 was on it’s second battery and was dead in the water. I had over 300 playlists on my 7 256GB, so for the Pro Max11 I’m adding them slowly changing the artwork above the list of songs through phone screenshots of the album covers (Amazon ,Discogs etc) as soon as I add the playlist. It beats the musical chairs of artwork scrambling around and simple. Just a pain. I shouldn’t have to do this but for me this is working. So far I have 63 playlists with no artwork issues. Apple should be the ones telling us they fixed the bug.

Just resent another Bug notification to https://www.apple.com/feedback/.

Perhaps if we bombard them enough, they'll get the hint?

"I want to report a problem that Apple knows about but still hasn't fixed.

I refer you to: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-13-beta-5-%E2%80%95-bug-fixes-changes-and-improvements.2191695/

i.e. In iOS 13, "Playlist artwork still shuffles randomly and never match the right artwork after using music app for a while."

And if you go here, you'll see lots of people are affected, so I don't want to hear "this is the first time I've heard of it":

This problem still persists with iOS 13.1.2.

I am using iTunes 12.6.5.3 on Windows 10."

I reluctantly upgraded and Catalini does replace iTunes with music, and it has helped with the artwork issue. Most of my playlists have now got the correct covers again and are not flickering between covers randomly. However there are many lists without covers where they once had them and Apple Music has replaced some. I’ve not had time to go through them all yet as I have a lot of playlists.

However the update has now created a problem with my Apple ID and I’m having to talk to Apple support to try to fix this. So one problem is replaced by yet another!!

I'm also finding that the new synching user interfaces on Music quite annoying as the process seems to open two windows, with one representing your computer and the other your phone. There’s less information about what is syncing and what steps are happening and it seems to take forever! Still for many of us that look at our lists visually the cover art work should mostly be correct but only if you update.

Hello, I use a Windows 10 1903 PC and an iPhone 8 iOS13.2. This may only apply to that config.

This is from a PC iTunes point of view.

I want to be clear, on my iPhone 8 iOS13.2, the cover art shown in the playlist view are all correct.

The playlist icons in the Library view are random cover images from the iTunes data base.

Apple or iTunes "knows" the correct icon in the playlist view and is choosing to display something else in the Library view.

Library - Playlists - the icon is incorrect

Library - Playlists - playlist_name the icon is correct

For the playlists that show correct cover art they are stable and never change; for the rest then even scrolling up and down is changing them. Any window update seems to trip a cover art update that is incorrect.

I have tried making an album with cover art then a playlist of the album with cover art and it never gets the correct cover are into the Library- Playlsit entries. Each file in the playlist has the same cover art data in the mp3 tag; I verified it.

I use fubar200 1.3.15 & Mp3tag v2.49 to check and modify the mp3 tags.

I did try all the suggestions by those before me and thank them for that but even after trying them more than three times each but never got my playlist cover art to work.

Maybe if we report what we see this may get some traction at Apple. Debugging is not easy.

Happy Trails

I love Disco Danny!!!

same problem but I have iPhone 11 and windows computer. Same problem. I called Apple and after hard reboot and logging out of Apple account and rebooting again and logging back in ( which is a royal pain as your wallet and other pro game disconnect as well) Apple told me it was a “known” issue and they are working on the problem. I love that you escalated it and hope we get an answer/ fix soon. I’m not joining Apple Music!!! Ugh!!! Thank you. !!
