watchOS 6 breaks third party charging

If you have a 3rd party charger that is certified MFi then you need to click on the Contact Support link at the top of this page and report it and give them the make/model charger you are using. I would also suggest you contact the manufacturer of the charger and inform them.

Apple charging cables do have chipsets in them and there are codes to detect those that are certified. Sometimes in an update Apple may change something in interacting with the chipset. If it is a certified 3rd party cable/charger this should not be an issue. If it is a knockoff one that stole a code from one of the certified companies it will cease to work correctly if Apple makes a change.

Just updated to WatchOS 6.0.1 and looks like the problem is gone.

They are completely wrong, removing apps on the Watch will not solve your problem. Using a 3rd party charger that is Made for iDevice certified (161 companies at last count make them) will.

You can eliminate Mophie and Belkin from your check of MFi Chargers, my Mophie is working and so is my friends Belkin.

I have a licensed third-party charger and the Series 4 no longer charges on it after the update. Did all troubleshooting with Apple. They established the issue might be resolved in a future update but offered no workaround.

Wrong - The only people here are the hosts that monitor the system and make sure the rules are followed and some Apple employees that answer questions that go unanswered for a 12 - 24 hour period with cites from the knowledge base. Keep in mind if you are not using a certified Made for iDevice cable or power adapter they won't do anything. And it has never been possible to revert and iDevice OS, not on the iPhone, Apple TV, iPad, iPod or Watch. But the Watch is even more problematic to do so and even developers must send in their test Watch if they run into an issue.

I'm not sure how the title of your thread proves that Apple routinely monitors these. The deletion from my post proves the hosts are being diligent and doing their job but that is not the same thing. If you are using an MFi 3rd party charger do use the link I provided.

Well the proof would appear to be that third party chargers have problems and the Apple supplied Ones don’t. I use an old series two charger as well as the one that came with my series 5 and both work flawlessly. My licences third party charges don’t.

Try removing the programs installed on your iwatch. That solved my problem. Hopefully it will help you

So we all go to Apple and give them feedback I have just done this. If we do not tell them they will not fix it.

Not true. I have multiple 3 in 1 chargers, mfi certified and otherwise, however, none of them work with Apple Watch series 5 running wos6. They all work with my series 3 running wos6. Apple messed something up because if you check the recent reviews for the $140 3 in 1 charger Apple sells on the official store you’ll see that it doesn’t even work...

When I called Apple Support, they implied that others were having the problem and they anticipated a fix with a future update. I’m not hopeful - I’m returning my charger to Amazon and getting a different one.

You cannot fall back to previous operating versions, especially on the Watch. Are you saying your Watch doesn't charge with your Apple charger? Is the 3rd party charger you are using MFi certified?

I think the point is that certified 3rd party chargers of any flavour. Expensive cheap legitimate and pirated are not working under WatchOS 6. A fix is needed from Apple.

Have you reported this to Apple and AMP?

Which companies were the MFi ones from? Have you contacted them?
