"Sign in to Complete Purchase" message after updating to Apple Watch OS 6.0

I'm getting the message "Sign in to Complete Purchase" every time on my Apple Watch after installing OS 6. Also, it asks me to login to an old Apple ID that I don't use anymore...

The message keeps popping up on my wrist 4-5 times and then it goes out for a while.

Reeeeeeeally annoying!

OK. Here is the fix that worked for me!

  1. Open your Apple Watch app on your phone and go to “My Watch”
  2. Go to Settings/General & turn off Automatic App Install.
  3. Now go back to “My Watch” and scroll to the bottom to see “Available Apps”.
  4. Any apps you see that are trying to install are the culprits causing the notifications!
  5. Delete those apps from your phone, and if necessary reinstall them with your Apple ID used currently.
  6. Turn Automatic App Install back on if necessary.

You now wont receive any more of those annoying notifications!

@Watersideguy - that fix didn't work for me. it's asking for the password to the apple id that *isn't* my main id, & is not the id my phone/watch is using. i've no way to tell what app is causing me grief, i've looked in the phone's watch app, there aren't any trying to install. i'm about to try un-pairing & re-pairing.

Update: so, I have 2 Watches, a v0 & a v4, I suspect it is my v0 causing this grief, so i've sorted the old watch, & re-paired the v4, will see how that goes. i'm guessing most people don't have 2 watches, but in case any of you do - it might pay to check out the setup on both of them.

Same problem. When I look to see what’s trying to install it’s my banking app. I really don’t want that on my watch anyway but I can’t figure out how to not have it install on my watch. I have auto installed turned off and I still get the annoying messages on my watch. If I go to complications the app doesn’t show there either so I can’t delete it. I really don’t want to have to delete it off my phone and reinstall just so that it will install on my watch. I don’t want it on my watch!

Several times a day, I get two prompts to enter my password. When I enter the correct password, the same one I use here, I get an error that my password is incorrect. Then I hit ‘cancel’ and immediately get another prompt and I hit cancel again. It leaves me alone for hours, then, as we say, rinse and repeat. Only happens on my Series 5, not on my Series 3. My thanks for spending another $600 on a new watch!

I get this error which has only started since I got my Series 4 last week. It never happened on my Series 3 which had been happily upgraded to OS 6.0.

I have two Apple ID's: one for iCloud and the other for the App Store. The error applies to my App Store ID and the fix above does not work for me. I'm in the position now where I can't install 3rd party apps onto the watch which is a nuisance.

Hopefully, it's a bug in iOS 13 and Watch OS 6 that'll be fixed soon.

I unpaired my Series 4 watch and re-paired and then set it up as a new watch. As part of the process, you have to sign in to iTunes and the App Store. This step failed so I think there is a bug in WatchOS 6 that is blocking some of us logging in to our iTunes account from the start. This then flows through to the problem of this thread. The iCloud login works fine.

I'm going to re-pair my Series 3 to see if the issue occurs on that as well.

I have the same issue, but it doesn't accept the password and gives me the message:Verification Failed. An unknown error occurred. I have 13.2 beta 2 installed and WatchOS 6.0.1 installed. If I try to enter the password on the iPhone apple watch app it doesn't seem to take the password there either. My icloud and itunes emails are different since there is no way to combine them after having an iTunes account before icloud was introduced.

I’m having the same issue but I have a new phone as well so there are no old Apple ids associated with anything on my phone. I’ve turned the auto updates off and looked to see if there’s any that have had an issue and nothing. But I’m still getting the notification up to 10 times a day at stupid times of the night too!

I hope they fix whatever they did when it all updated. It never did it before and it’s absolutely frustrating.
