iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

I’ve had my iPhone 11 Pro for about 3 weeks and just yesterday noticed a deeper scratch on the left hand side of my screen. I’ve had iPhones since they first came out and this has never happened to me before. Obviously they get the odd small scratches after a lot of use but never a scratch that you can feel/see after 3 weeks. Initially I thought it may have been from putting it in my bag with my keys but I read online that the screens are supposed to be resistant to key and coins scratches. Not very happy as it’s a brand new device! I even have a case on it but now I’m thinking of getting a screen protector as I’m afraid it’ll get even worse!

My phone screen is scratching to crap without any sharp contact to the screen. I have dropped it a few times. My screen was fine upon inspection. My phone cover is very protective and overlaps the screen. My phone was scratched even more today while in my soft sweat pants pockets of my under armor pants. Makes no sense whatsoever. I am going to make a formal complaint because I paid way too much for a crappy screen.

Seems to me this is common with midnight green iPhone 11 pro. I just found out today that my screen has a small hairline crack and I have a tempered glass protector!! What a waste of money and Apple refuses to repair it. How in the world would I have the small hairline if the screen protector itself isn’t damage?? All they did was to scheduled am appt and Bestbuy wants $200 for a small hairline crack!

If you really feel compelled to do this, feel free to purchase or find a friend with a Mohs Hardness test kit and you will have your answer in ten scratches or less.

However, as Apple does not publish specs for such, I'm not sure what you're hoping to prove, especially as there are already YouTube videos posted by people who do have such kits.

Noticed some really nasty scratches on my iPhone 11 Pro screen after only a couple of months & despite for the first time using a leather wallet style case .. this is my 4th iPhone & I have taken care of this one more than any previous but I’ve never seen so many light scratches, the screen is covered in them & two deep gouge scratches .. so disappointing, when you consider a £1000 plus product .. the screen looks years old already .. bang goes the value from any re-sale .. bad form Apple

I have a screen protector on my phone, which went on my phone before I even turned it on when it came out of the box. Of course my phone isn't scratched. I've also NEVER disparaged anyone, but I have suggested that the best way to avoid scratches is a simple screen protector. But, to your point, saying a phone is not scratched or recommending a screen protector is NOT disparaging someone. Saying something mean to our about someone is disparaging. And that is what the forum hosts pay attention to.

Most likely you mean well, but please do understand that in this thread users who always trusted the quality of Apple products and therefore never used a screen protector got their iPhones easily scratched with regular use.

To tell them now to use a screen protector is an obvious solution that with hindsight any of us would had taken, and therefore does not appear to contribute much, and only appears to highlight that we were, let's put it nicely, very naive.

Thank you. I actually do mean well. But since Apple has clearly taken the position that scratching one's screen is accidental damage and is not replacing people's screens, even in hindsight, it make sense to put a screen protector on one's phone after the fact to avoid further scratches. Otherwise, the chorus of protests on this thread isn't being read by Apple as Apple isn't on this forum (except the Forum Hosts who read posts for violation of TOU, which is why posts are removed).

"Apple has clearly taken the position that scratching one's screen is accidental damage and is not replacing people's screens"

Wow, victim blaming as usual.

Let me clarify this for you, since you seem not to have paid enough attention to what people on this thread are actually complaining about; most people here are claiming that screens are being scratched to such a degree that cannot reasonably be explained away without any damage having happened to their phones. Sure, there are a few outliers who admit to having dropped their phones et cetera, however the majority claim to have taken good care of theirs. If paraphrasing this as "people scratching their phones" isn't disparaging, I don't know what is.

Incidentally, the second part of your claim is unbacked; Apple has yet to make a statement about "Scratchgate". Or do you, as not-an-Apple-employee know something that we don't? Even so, the claim that Apple doesn't replace scratched screens is utterly misinformed, since Apple did in fact replace the screens of multiple users including myself completely free of charge might I add.

I think you completely misunderstood my comment. I get that peoples screens are scratching easier than before in many cases. But Apple has not been replacing every scratched screen and Apple has told people (NOT ME) that this is considered accidental damage. People have posted in this very thread that is what "they" were told at their Apple store. If someone was fortunate to get their screen replaced, like you say you did, count yourself as lucky. Most people are not as fortunate. And yes, Apple has not commented on this publicly. They rarely do.
