iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

well what it is I have only just got my new iPhone 11 on Friday and I have already scrached the screen on it but the scratch is really faint and isn't seeable unless you put it in a certain position in the light and to be honest it has really upset me as ive only had the iPhone for 4 days. But then again I feel that I have caused the faint scratch myself and I mean all I did was clean the screen first time around I accidentally used my sleeve on my housecoat but then straight after I used a tissue so could it maybe have ben my sleeve on my housecoat that has caused it or even the tissue and I did then clean it for a second time and used a tissue again. And to be honest it is driving me absolutely crazy as im still now trying to work out how I did it.

I have said thought now that I will be making sure that I am going to get a case and a screen protector for my iPhone 11 to stop more scratches from happening on the screen

can anyone give me any advice on the best way to deal with it there and what to do even

Feb 3, 2020 11:13 AM in response to Charlielorran

I can give you advice, but it may not be what you want to hear, having had every model from the 6 plus to the 11 pro I have now here is what my past experience has provided me. On my 6 plus through my X I went on to use many cases otter box, zagg, life proof you name it I currently have it collecting dust in a draw somewhere. The reason why is because upon day one of buying each phone I bought a case and screen protector for it, made sure the phone was clear of scratches and marks before handing it back to the apple employee to have said case and shield installed on the phones. However much like my iPhone 11 pro that did not save any of my phones from scratching. So when my X finally stopped holding a charge I knew it was time to upgrade, and I did something different with my iPhone 11 from day one it has never been gone in a case, it has never seen the inside of a cupholder, pocket, or bag. I do not wear any watches or rings and my 11 has only been three places either in my hand, on my desk as work, or on the wireless charging pad I have on my nightstand. The phone has never been dropped and like everyone else on this forum under a cheap $1.50 LED flashlight you can see tiny hairline scratches. Now for the real shocker I have an iPhone 4 that I currently use as my alarm clock and mp3 player when I am outside doing yard work. No case on it no screen protector on it, fell out of truck 3-4 time, my 5 year old daughter played with it for a while, my 1 year old puppy got a hold of it for thirty seconds yet it does not have a mark on it.

@kpfoley: Once again, pictures or it didn't happen.
If sand really is everywhere and glass really is glass is glass and the iPhone 11 really is as hard on the Mohs scale as you've previously claimed before on multiple occasions, not having even a microscratch without a screen protector on is nothing short of a miracle. Or do you live in a hermetically sealed bubble?

I live in the real world, where most people don't need the obvious explained to them over and over and over again.

@kpfoley: and the obvious is what exactly?

That once again, you're just "joking"?

That actually, no, you do have a screen protector on?

That actually, no, you do have scratches on your screen?

That actually, no, you refuse to give any kind of tangible proof, because you're a "scientist" and "that's not how science works"?

Give us a rest... -_-

Says the guy who's been moaning about people not showing pictures of their alleged scratches being disingenuous.

But you're right, a picture of anything doesn't prove nothing either.

Your unwillingness to even back up your claims, however, well, that's a picture that says a thousand words...

Mine got scratched with 20 days of usage. 2cm long scratch in the middle of the screen. I have been a long time iphone user since 4s. None of my iphones had a screen protector on and to be honest the first two were almost abused. And now all of a sudden I wake up with a huge scratch on me 299$ without any incident. The phone is always carried in the same pocket on its own without anything else. Too bad ...

Hey guys, since a lot of us have the same problem I wonder what if it's not glass that is getting scratched? When it's visible just under certain light conditions I heard that could be the oleophobic coating that is scratched, not the screen itself actually.

I was reading comments on reddit and I noticed the same problem every year.

nathreed 16 points 2 years ago:

Usually these light scratches are actually in the oleophobic coating and wear off over time as the coating wears. For instance, I had a bunch of micro scratches when my 6s was new (2y ago) but now that the coating has worn I don't have any.

Can someone confirm this?

If i used iphone 11 for one year without screen protector then i will need new screen. Many scratches in first month of use. It scratches from the air... My iphone 7 was the strongest smartphone i’ve ever have. I have the first generation of iphone with less screen scratches than my new iphone 11 with 3 months of use.

Feb 4, 2020 12:38 PM in response to MatiasMB

I also got an iPhone 11 for company use. 2 days and have in front pocket with no other items. Waiting on screen protector from Verizon due to back order but looked at screen today while I wipe it off as smears big me and poof I see small scratches

Never had that issue with prior iPhones so the glass quality is poor on the iPhone 11.

Guess what now try to get them to warranty it. Not worth my time

Feb 4, 2020 4:11 PM in response to Nik3m

Yes, Nik3M. It’s the coating. The design was really bad and it appears nothing will be done about it. My guess is more than half of iPhone users put a screen protector on when they first buy a phone. Probably habitual since their first purchases. Because of this the problem is not being reported like it should be. Therefore Apple isn’t going to do anything unless there is public backlash.

I have had Android phones, iPhones, and iPads for 10 years and never seen such garbage. I hope iPhone 12 will be better but I’m not holding my breath.

Feb 4, 2020 11:29 PM in response to Nik3m

Get on to Apple. If it is the coating get them to extend your warranty in writing, otherwise get it repaired or replaced before you lose your rights. Don’t except faulty goods because they don’t get better in time( they get worse ). Perhaps I’m wrong but I would love to see empirical evidence to support this theory.

My advice get on to Apple immediately

Wished I knew of the iPhone 11s screens were much worse than the older models before I made the switch. I never had issues before with upgrading to next gen iPhone. My fault for not doing my research. Apple i am very disappointed. I expect excellence from you. Definitely will advise anyone who asks to avoid this upgrade if looking for durability.

i am BEYOND FURIOUS i’ve had the iphone 11 for THREE days haven’t dropped it or anything and there’s a deep scratch i can feel with my nail i’m disappointed in the phone if i would’ve know it was a **** quality screen i would have never wasted my money. i really would like to have it fixed for free as should everyone else who just got it and is having these issues. if this is the case i will no longer use apple products it’s RIDICULOUS
