iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

I had the same experience others have had: On day 2, my new iphone 11 pro max ($1500 with warranty) got a scratch from carrying it in my pocket. Context: I carried my Samsung S7 in my pocket for several years without a single scratch. The Samsung screen still looks better than my new iphone screen. Crazy!!! Also, the sales person never told me that it would need a screen protector. Apple should do much better than this.

A novel virus pandemic vs a scratch on your iPhone. Priorities people...

For everyone on this forum, I will once again point out:

1). A scratch is a cosmetic issue, does not affect the hardware. This is not covered under warranty.

2). To complain about answer #1, then reach out to Apple Support directly (this ain’t it) and/or leave feedback at: feedback.apple.com

i saw this problem with many people. They are scratching their head as most probably they are thinking about 200-300$ screen replacement cost. Although there isn’t much you could do to reverse the things now, but instead I suggest next time you see your iPhone naked, please remember that it’s a 1000$ piece of metal/glass and deserves at least cheap 10$ worth of cloathing. I always use 10-15$ screen guard and sphigen transparent tpu cover for my new iPhones that I have ever bought. And haven’t noticed any scratch on these. Maybe you could have manufacturing defect, bust most probably you yourself got that scratch unknowingly. Use protection! I know your iPhone looks pretty seductive naked, but please consider the alternatives.

I want no scratch display. I cannot concentrate on reading when the glass display is scratced. It is disturbing to my eyes if even 1cm of scratch hits your reading line all the time. Never had this on previous models. eg iPhone X display was good enough. If I have to choose, I would switch to iPhone X display. What is the technical recommendation for the future so far?

I believe you're asking - would you pick a screen that is:

1. hard to scratch but breaks more easily when (not if) you drop it and pay $300 to get it fixed

*or*

2. more durable against falls, but scratches easily (where a $10 glass protector could help)

Unfortunately, the common misconception is that a higher priced product should be able to bend the laws of physics...

Unfortunately I don't agree. I have scratch on my display which is visible when reading with white background. I am using all apple products, I have like everything from apple for many years. Now, iPhone Pro 11 Max. Easy display scratch! Guys, I think you should be accepting this in development. This is mass issue. I am not going to buy another iPhone anymore until this is fixed. I am not buying any smartphone knowing that I MUST buy screen protector as well. That does not have a logic. I will buy glass protector now for my iPhone 11 Pro Max immediately. But again, I believe there should be comparison of glass displays clearly described when compared on apple eshop. I think it would be fair if Apple communicates during purchase decision:

"iPhone 11 has more durable display vs iPhone X, iPhone 11 gets easily scractech on display. Please, use screen protector!"

I am upset, because this was not the case. Instead I read reco to buy glass protector but only after I discover this "technological limitation" with display scratch. What do you think about it? Thank you.

Well, until Apple can bend the laws of physics I guess you've purchased your last iPhone.

Enjoy your easily scratched Android phone, as all of the top of the line phones from other vendors experience the exact same issue:

In fact, Samsung Galaxy S10s come with a plastic screen protector installed from the factory.

“In fact, Samsung Galaxy S10s come with a plastic screen protector installed from the factory.”

This would be in fact much better guven the weak “sratch” resistance of new iPhone 11 glass display.

I am sure Apple will come up with somethign. Current situation is not competitive reg “glass display easy scratch” - is this the new “narrative” to iphone display? The only fight is “buy screen cover”?? I am sure it is not for fantastic Apple team. Good luck guys!! Honestly.

Based on your logic, then car companies should also be held responsible for making cars with paint that has technological limitations because they also get scratched and damaged easily from sand or rocks flying into it when the car is driven normally.

Even if the car dealerships try to sell this and car buyers refuse due to extra cost, the car maker did not advertise it. With your suggestion, Toyota for example should advertise, "The 2020 Corolla has durable paint - but unlike the 2019, it doesn't take much sand to scratch it if driven normally. Please buy paint protection!"

If not, why do we forgive car companies that cannot invent un-scratchable paint since they have been doing this for over 100 years! Also, cars cost 20x-1000x more than iPhone, so if anyone should be bending the knee of physics based on purchase price, should it not be car makers?

Oh FFS, the car paint analogy is utterly stupid.

Display of an iPhone is the interface for using the device. You LOOK AT IT every time you use your phone.

Paint of a car has nothing to do with driving the car. If we must use a car analogy, a better one would be a windshield that scratches easily and those scratches can affect what you see when you drive.

Scale up the scratches on an iPhone screen to a windshield size, and you have a more befitting analogy.

Now enjoy your drive.
