iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

Let's bring this back on topic and I'll avoid the use of the word 'apologist'.

My assertion was that AppleCare+ does _not_ cover this. It is a pure cash grab because AppleCare+ does cover screen breakage and they are now making screens so that they are less likely to break (which was always a rare occurrence anyway) but are now nearly certain to scratch, but AppleCare+ does not cover scratches. So for those of us that do buy AppleCare+ for our phones, we have to pay both for AppleCare+ _and_ pay out of pocket for the screen replacement. This is just a cash grab by Apple.

I get from your statements that you have an idea that I don't use a screen protector. That is false. However my phone was scratched before I was even able to apply the screen protector.

For me and for many others, we want to have screens that are not super soft and susceptible to scratching. I have very old pre-gorilla glass phones that have screens with never a screen protector and only light scratching and my iPhone 11 got scratched in the first 24 hours with careful use and transportation in its original box. While you are entitled to be satisfied with your own iPhone, I am entitled to be dissatisfied with mine and have good cause.

I have had iPhone 6 since it first came out and never used a screen protector, and the screen is in perfect condition. Upgraded to the iPhone 11, and within a month it has two annoying scratches. If anything, I've been more careful with my brand new iPhone 11 than I was with my iPhone 6. I am extremely disappointed that such an expensive, newer device is so easily scratched. I am even more upset about how Apple has denied that its new material is less scratch resistant, and blamed me for not taking care of my device.

Well, now I know what company to invest in and what product to purchase next time...Samsung! It has been too long since I last gave them a chance and never had an issue. Ever since new CEO with Apple things have been tanking! For example this forum about screen scratches and nothing being done about it. It’s ok trust me people are smart enough to know that when it’s time to change then it’s time to change. Samsung would never let this occur! Apple should be ashamed of their subpar product.

Be nice if Apple screens could be both shatter proof AND scratch proof. Please Apple, please.

Well, when Apple can defy the laws of physics and materials science, I'm sure they will.

Until then, read the article I linked and you will see that making screens more shatter-proof increases susceptibility to scratching.

Making screens less scratch-prone makes screens more fragile and prone to shatter.

There's no way to do both.

Answer:

I’ve had exactly the same experience with iphone 11 pro - after just 1 day (!!!) of use, there is a rather deep scratch on the front screen that I can see and feel with a fingernail. The phone was in my back pocket with a plastic credit card and has not been in contact with sharp objects. Never had scratches like this on my previous iphone models in 2 years of usage. In fact the screen of my old iphone xs that I used for 3 years is still scratchless in my drawer! This is absolutely ridiculous.

There probably IS a way however to TELL people that these new screens are more susceptible to scratches and encourage folks to buy screen protectors explicitly. Have I been actually told that the screen has changed from the previous years when I was buying the phone at the Apple store, I'd have gotten a screen protector. As it is, most of us are operating on the assumption that if we didn't need one for previous iphones, we don't need one "for the strongest screen ever" either.
