iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

Older smartphones had more scratch resistant, but more brittle glass.

Since people don't like paying $300 to replace their glass when dropping their phone a foot, cell phone makers overall (not just Apple) moved to formulas that are more shatter-resistant but are slightly more scratch prone.

This issue is solved with a $20 screen protector; you can't apply something for $20 that will stop your screen from shattering in a fall.

This is my exact situation!

I upgraded to the iPhone 11 after having the SE since day 1. The SE has some scratches and it was out of case for most of the time but this was over the course of 4 years.

Within a day of using the 11 I had paint chipping and within a week I had deep scratches. Rogers said I did this and they wouldn’t help me but Apple is replacing it with a new device. I’ll be putting a screen protector on my replacement once it comes.

Obviously Corning for one thinks it was a problem otherwise they wouldn’t have bothered improving the scratch resistance with Gorilla Glass Victus. One thing Apple has done where other manufacturers have not os to take peoples money for apple care plus, charging as much as ever, but mot covering the terrible scratches caused by the soft but shatter resistant

glass. It is a pure and deliberate cash grab.

So disappointed. Had the 11 Pro Max for 6 months and not a scratch on it. Phone needed replacing for another reason (calls kept dropping - was determined to be something with the phone’s antenna). I got my replacement phone about 2 weeks ago and there are now scratches all over the phone. It’s getting worse by the day. Scratches are in the shape of a smudge. Glare/scratches make it very distracting to look at display. Clearly an issue with a select few of the displays since I had absolutely zero scratches over 6 months on the other phone. Verizon won’t replace or offer any support - they claim this is damage to the phone. Apple needs to make this right with their customers.

There's no way your screen will scratch with a protector installed unless you manage to go through the protector to the screen surface.

If you do that, nothing would have saved your screen.

If you really want to know, here, yet again, is the rationale behind the current glass formulations:

One point of clarification on my particular issue - I had previously owned an iPhone 11 Pro Max for 6+ months. No screen protector since day 1, not a scratch on the screen over that entire time period. The phone needed to be replaced due to another issue. The replacement phone (same model) started receiving scratches within a few days. The scratches were very fine and almost looked like a fingerprint smudge. It continued to grow in size and became quite distracting as

the scratches accumulated. Ended up buying a screen protector and the scratching issue has stopped. Like other users on this string, I had grown used to the fact that iPhone screens were very durable. I have owned at least 5 previous versions and never once used a screen protector and never had any issues. I see that a lot of comments that state that we should have known to buy a screen protector. Why would we expect this screen to be any different to previous versions? If Apple was significantly changing the design (as many have pointed out) to make the phone/screen more resistant to drop damage, but more likely to scratch, it would have been nice of them to notify us and strongly encourage the use of a screen protector (since many of us have grown used to not needing a screen protector). On a side-note, I’m still puzzled as to why my original iPhone 11 Pro Max didn’t have a scratch on it after 6+ months and this replacement phone scratched so easily. I wonder if there was just a bad batch of screens or a change in material/supplier at some point in the manufacturing process that is causing this issue for only a subset of the Apple community.

Same issue here, I bought my iPhone pro max 11 3 days ago, kept it separate from everything, either in pocket or on counter and it two has 3 scratches on it, 1 looks like someone has dragged a key on it, it's so deep. As it like the other people on here, I am also very displease and it is very annoying. Had my iPhone XR for 2 years without a screen protector and hardly had 1 scratch on and that got thrown around the place. Not happy with this iPhone 11 Pro Max screen at all.

I have the exact same problem. I definitely think it is some sort of defect because from day one I have had a glass screen protector on it and it is never near my keys or anything sharp. It has never fallen and I am always extremely careful with it. When I decided to switch from glass screen protector to silicone screen protector I now see the defect and I’m very disappointed. I’ll have to make use of my AppleCare I guess.

iPhone 11 Pro Max .

I never had to use any screen protector I’m so careful with my electronics all my stuff looks like brand new, and now this phone looks like I just got it from a secondhand store after 3 days I had a deep scratch from out of blue after 4 weeks I don’t want to look at it of course Apple never has heard about it right? I’m so disappointed, why the **** do you need to use screen protector when you a careful user . I don’t want to look at a $20 rubber case when I just got a “ designer phone “ Apple should replace the screen for no charge if you have or not Apple care

Did you bother to read any of the posted links which explains why Apple and ALL other high end phone screens are now less prone to breaking after a drop, but can scratch more easily? The links are littered throughout this thread. The fact is a simple screen protector will protect your phone.

Case in point: My partner dropped his iPhone 11 last week. It had the Apple installed Belkin Screen protector on it. The screen protector shattered. The phone screen suffered absolutely NO damage whatsoever. We simply replaced the screen protector and there is no hint the phone was dropped on hard concrete. If you want to avoid getting more scratches, put a screen protector on your phone. Apple is not going to replace your screen for cosmetic issues.

About cases: There are some amazing cases which let your "designer phone" colors come through beautifully. I have one which has 9H Hardended glass (like a front screen protector) on the back of my iPhone 11 Pro Max. It didn't even cost $20 (Amazon has some amazing values in iPhone cases).
