iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

Older smartphones had more scratch resistant, but more brittle glass.

Since people don't like paying $300 to replace their glass when dropping their phone a foot, cell phone makers overall (not just Apple) moved to formulas that are more shatter-resistant but are slightly more scratch prone.

This issue is solved with a $20 screen protector; you can't apply something for $20 that will stop your screen from shattering in a fall.

I just bought an iPhone 11 for my wife. She is upgrading from an iPhone 6! So I use Apple products and push them to the limit. I literally just pulled this phone out of the box so I don't like hearing these complaints about scratches. But I would offer 2 thoughts. First, my experiences with Apple tech support have been quite positive. You can call Apple directly and just tell them what product you are calling about. If they can't resolve over the phone they will make an Genius Bar appointment. Call: ‭1 (800) MYAPPLE‬

A second thought is this, for a phone that you are spending $800 or so for, I think a screen protector for $40 that has lifetime warranty might be worth it. So I invested in this Belkin screen protector and had it professionally installed at a local Apple Store.

Something you might consider:

Belkin InvisiGlass Ultra Screen Protection for iPhone 11

Hassle-free lifetime warranty

If your screen protector ever gets cracked or damaged, Belkin will happily replace it.

No, I don't work for Apple but I have used Apple products since 1989.

Yes, I hope this helps someone.

Unfortunately the new 11 screen is garbage for scratches and Apple don’t want to address the design flaw publicly (due to financial cost) do contact trading standards if they don’t repair or replace defective screens and let trading standards defend you. Apple cannot justify poor quality, we the consumer don’t mind paying extra for a superior products but we can’t stand by and be told it’s our fault when it’s not

I had an iPhone 6 for three years without a screen protector and the screen had just a few small scratches. I had the iPhone without a case/screen protector for a day and it got a long stratch right down the face of the phone. I was super careful during that time as well. I think it was from a plastic button on my pants. From my experience the iPhone 11 screen is not more scratch resistant than my previous phone. I can't imagine what it would look like if I treated it the same as the iPhone 6.

I am truly happy for those that do not have any scratches or put screen protectors. I wished I had the right information from Apple indicating that these phones are very prone to scratches with regular use. Truly regular use in two weeks is enough. It could of course be that the ones here complaining were receiving an unlucky batch of defective products.

Actually at the Apple Store they explained me that for making the glass more resistant to break they are prone to scratch more easily (this when I went to complain, not when I went to buy). So I take this as the official information. Wish this had been advertised, instead of the toughest glass ever on an iPhone.

Where does it say that?

Hey guys, since a lot of us have the same problem I wonder what if it's not glass that is getting scratched? When it's visible just under certain light conditions I heard that could be the oleophobic coating that is scratched, not the screen itself actually.

I was reading comments on reddit and I noticed the same problem every year.

nathreed 16 points 2 years ago:

Usually these light scratches are actually in the oleophobic coating and wear off over time as the coating wears. For instance, I had a bunch of micro scratches when my 6s was new (2y ago) but now that the coating has worn I don't have any.

Can someone confirm this?

Yes, Nik3M. It’s the coating. The design was really bad and it appears nothing will be done about it. My guess is more than half of iPhone users put a screen protector on when they first buy a phone. Probably habitual since their first purchases. Because of this the problem is not being reported like it should be. Therefore Apple isn’t going to do anything unless there is public backlash.

I have had Android phones, iPhones, and iPads for 10 years and never seen such garbage. I hope iPhone 12 will be better but I’m not holding my breath.

Get on to Apple. If it is the coating get them to extend your warranty in writing, otherwise get it repaired or replaced before you lose your rights. Don’t except faulty goods because they don’t get better in time( they get worse ). Perhaps I’m wrong but I would love to see empirical evidence to support this theory.

My advice get on to Apple immediately

I purchase all the latest products as they are released and by far the iPhone 11pro has been the most susceptible to scratches in the screen with little or no effort. I spoke with several employees on the call line and they have made me two different appointments at a Apple store and Bestbuy which happen to be 70 miles each way for me. Both times they said they couldn’t fix the screen as it was not covered and they didn’t have the authorization to do the repair. I really feel like they know the problem exists but if they just ignore that it will go away. I read someplace like Tom Hardware that they made the screen and back flexible and that may have sacrificed the hardness yet they claim it to be the most durable phone to date.

I have 16 apple devices on my Verizion account and both the iPhone 11 pros are scratched the iPad pros and numerous iPhone X’s one of which was my old phone, are perfect with no scratches. I always carry in a otter box defender with no glass protection.
