iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

I only noticed mine last night, my whole screen has scratches all over it and it only sits on my desk all day, I contacted Apple about it and because it’s a couple of days outside the 14 day Apple warranty they will not rectify cosmetic issues as it was most likely my fault. Obviously not now if everyone has this problem

Nothing is going to help anyone here. We are all users, and no matter how many post their phone is scratched, it's clear Apple isn't going to replace them for scratches, especially since none of the phones had a screen protector installed. Apple doesn't replace phones for cosmetic reasons. If someone is within their 14 day return window, they can return the phone for full refund. If they choose to re-buy the phone, they should put a screen protector on it and stop worrying as a screen protector will fully protect the screen. If they don't, they may well get scratches on their replacement phone.

The only advice which will help anyone is to recommend putting a screen protector on their phone to stop further scratches from happening. Perhaps not the advice you or anyone else with this are looking for, but the only advice that can help anyone.

It’s needless advice. Saying “put on a scratch protector” doesn’t add anything to the conversation. It’s like saying “just leave it unused in a drawer and it won’t scratch”. And saying that all glass scratches makes as much sense as Steve Jobs’ iPhone 4 antennagate “you are holding it wrong” excuse — no sense at all. All glass scratch, just not this easily.

Making excuses for a corporation and claiming this is “normal”, like many people here are doing, is embarrassing because it is not normal. And it doesn’t matter that Apple is not looking at this forum. Users are piling up their reports because they are clearly experiencing a manufacturing problem. The more reports, the better for everyone, including Apple.

If you want to adamantly say "it shouldn't be like this," feel free, but the bottom line is this is what state of the art in glass production is.

Glass can be crack-resistant or scratch-resistant, and most prefer crack-resistant, but regardless it's the route Corning pursued with the Gorilla Glass used not only on Apple's phones but also the Samsung Galaxy as well as the Google Pixel.

If those decisions do not sit well with you, feel free to complain to Apple, Corning or whomever you like, but the fact remains it's state of the art for the product and its strength even if you (and others) feel it has significant shortcomings.

Design a glass that is both crack-resistant and scratch-resistant and congratulations, you're a billionaire; the people who research these things for a multi-billion dollar corporation that specializes in glass can't.

The explanation has been given several times.

You can complain if you like, but it's not going to change the material science involved.

I will post it again in case it's scrolled back too far in the thread to be convenient, and note that this article is concerning Android phones, so the issue is across the entire sector, once again because Gorilla Glass all comes from the same source, Corning:

I received the iphone 11 in the mail, opened the box, set the iphone up and literally on the way to best buy to purchase the case I wanted, this phone had already been scratched on the front screen. The other iphones I have had ( every model since the Iphone 4) have all been fine without screen protectors.
