iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

Older smartphones had more scratch resistant, but more brittle glass.

Since people don't like paying $300 to replace their glass when dropping their phone a foot, cell phone makers overall (not just Apple) moved to formulas that are more shatter-resistant but are slightly more scratch prone.

This issue is solved with a $20 screen protector; you can't apply something for $20 that will stop your screen from shattering in a fall.

I came home from walking the dog my iPhone 11 was in my pocket with my keys.

later I noticed a spider crack in the screen the phone is only a few weeks old this seems odd as I didn’t drop the phone there is a screen protector on the phone.

my keys were in the same pocket so I assume they had contact with the screen.

The glass seems very thin if this damage happened in my pocket.

I had an Android for years even dropped it a few times this never happened.

I personally don’t understand why Apple (or probably Corning) would reward clumsy people who drop their phones by making the glass less prone to shattering, while simultaneously punishing people who don‘t drop their phones by making the glass soft enough to be more prone to scratching.

I‘d prefer more brittle but harder glass as I never drop my phone and would prefer a pristine surface as now I’m stuck with a phone with a greatly decreased resale value.

I almost wish Apple hadn't made the claim about the 12 though. I read one of the reviews from one of the few lucky enough to have the new phone and the guy said the screen already had some micro-scratches after a full day's use.

I not only have two new cases for my iPhone 12 Pro Max, but screen protectors on hand and I haven't yet as you well know ordered the phone, which we can't until November 6th. I'll be spending $1200 for my new phone. The few measly dollars for a screen protector is not only cheap, but still IMHO a requirement if you don't want even micro scratches.

You just don't get it. The issue is not the softer glass. The issue is that it was never advertised/promoted that way. It was quite the opposite and advertised as better glass than previous versions. If we all knew that this "better glass" was going to scratch so much easier then ALL previous versions we would have likely either not purchased it, or immediately had an Apple employee put on a screen protector. Many of us use a good case and don't worry about breakage. It is also interesting that Apple sells many of their own brand cases, yet they do not have their own brand screen protector.

You can’t put a screen protector on screen after it is scratched in the slightest. I have the same issue with my iPhone 11 Pro. I am very dissatisfied and disappointed. I am convinced the screen material is not as hard other phones. I can’t prove it just to make a point because I need my phone and I not made of money. I didn’t buy extra warranty or service plans- which is ridiculous. I had a Huawei P20 pro for two years with no screen protector and that screen was like new after, I repeat, two years. The screen keeps getting little scratches which is why I say the screen material is softer. If I put a protector on now it will be filled with bubbles and of other marks due to the scratches. I have a Spigen case for my iPhone and had a Spigen case for my Huawei to protect them against drops.

Sorry, were you there when the people at the store took the brand new phone out of the box and put the screen protector on?

No, clearly you weren’t. So, it’s not your place to say it was scratched during fitting. Nor is it your place to say my phone couldn’t have been scratched under a protector.

There is 197 pages of comments regarding this issue. It’s hard to believe that we, as previous phone owners, would be capable of bringing this issue on ourselves when, in fact, I’ve never experienced the issue with any other phone in the past. AND my handling of phones has not changed.
