iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

Well, can't I do both?

These posts are most certainly "reports".

They're reports to the community, an exchange of experiences that can validate or repudiate one's own experience.

In fact this route is more direct than talking to some "genius" at the Apple store.

T. Cook will hear about the news stories way before he hears about some guy who came in with a scratched screen.

I have the same issue , I have owned all I phones since the first one and have never had this issue. Yes of course over time small scratches will appear but I have never had this type of scuff that is not removable on any phone ever. The scuff is quite large and when I run my finger over I can not feel it , I'm not sure if I should use my Apple Care to have the screen replaced .

From reading all these threads this seems to an issue with the coating on the Gorilla glass. Any advice suggestions would be much appreciated . I think Apple needs to made aware of this issue ...I have only had this phone for one week I always have a case on it and it lives in my pocket with nothing else ( except some lint).

You did the smart thing and what other's here should do or should have done instead of moaning to other users.

With a screen protector your phone will do quite well.

I went to the store. Got a refund and got a new iPhone, a case, and a screen protector. I’m being extremely careful with the “toughest glass in a smartphone”.

Same here.... no incident what so ever... still a snatch out of nowhere..... crazy for such in expensive mobile phone and very unexpected because of good quality experiences with earlier iPhones and the Apple Watch..... the most annoying however is the attitude of Apple call centre employees who simply don’t take your story seriously.... “you’ll have probably snatched it with your keys...” No sir! I would not even have the guts to call you if that was the case..... ****!

I’m encountering the same thing. I’ve had just about every iPhone since the 3g and I can’t remember ever having a screen so sensitive to scratches this early on. I love the device otherwise, just unfortunate. I treated my most recent XS identically to my new 11 Pro Max and it did not have scratches like this has a few weeks in after an entire year of use.

Even though I do not own an iPhone 11, I would like to at least add my experience with my iPhone 8.

Before my iPhone 8, I owned an iPhone 6. Never used a screen protector, only a case. It is my opinion that a touchscreen phone loses the user experience if you add a screen protector. Anyways, after four years of use, I had no scratches or micro scratches on my iPhone 6. The screen was in flawless condition when I resold the phone after buying my iPhone 8.

Less than six months after buying my iPhone 8, it got a long thin scratch on the screen, which was annoying enough to me to get a screen replacement. At the time, I was super surprised that the scratch occurred. The iPhone 8 was my third iPhone, and after owning the iPhone 4 and s6, both with flawless screens by the time I was done using them, I think the proof is in the pudding with how careful I am with my phone.

So I got the screen replaced at an Apple store, and guess what!? ... Less than a month or two after having the new screen installed, once again several micro scratches and one deeper scratch appeared quite literally out of nowhere on the phone.

If the phone is not in my pocket or in my laptop bag, it is sitting on a table, on a charger, or in my car mount. I don’t do anything dangerous or rough on a daily basis that would harm the phone. Just very basic usage.

I am confident that my story is proof that Apple’s smart phone screens have lost scratch resistant quality. It’s very deflating, buying a $1000 phone and having the screen get scratches from very little use.

Apple - you have some explaining to do.

Actually, they have no explaining to do. As sergekills suggests, there are trade offs with glass. They can either be highly scratch resistant or they can be harder and less prone to breaking. No one, has yet to create glass which is both, highly resistant to scratches and less likely to break.

Apple has partnered with Belkin and in every Apple Store in the US, Apple installs Belkin Screen protectors on iPhone's according to a friend of mine who works in my local store, hundreds of times daily. If apple didn't think a screen protector was necessary, they wouldn't sell them. In fact, they don't sell or install them for iPad and the reason is the glass is different on iPad. If people don't want to use a screen protector, that is certainly their choice. But by not using one, they are playing the Roulette Wheel in the hopes they don't get scratches. They'll likely lose playing that game as this thread is clearly demonstrating.

Up several posts is an article from Verge, which explains this very well. You should read it.

Hah - that excuse is played out. I’ve seen that posted all over reddit. I’d like to see that information verified by Apple themselves instead of regurgitated online in every forum that exists by the armchair experts.

It really doesn’t matter what anyone says, these phones shouldn’t scratch from light usage on a daily basis. Obviously I’m not a dummy, and I know that screens and phones are not scratch and crack proof. However, there is no excuse for scratches to happen so easily.

I have been following this whole thing since day one(this thread was 2 pages long), and I don't think posting threads here is effortless, the fact is, with this thread piling up, now there are lot of news about this, if there are more and more news reporting this, Apple would be forced to take this issue seriously(hopefully).

Also, I have read all your replies, you don't seems to be believe the truths that some of the iphone might be defective, maybe caused by manufacturing incident? It is okay to have micro scratches, my 11 was naked until my screen protector arrived, when i was cleaning it, I noticed there were already some micro scratches, but they disappeared when i applied the screen protector, or just simply turn on the screen. However, the scratches happened to my friend was not micro at all, there are very deep scratches appeared in he got up in the moring, where the iphone was lying still on the desk for the whole night, charging, although i assume the screen protector might prevent that from happening, but this iphone is absolutely defective.

I am aware that there are similar thread during every release, I even found some of them, however, please note that, the previous threads are no more than 6 pages long, and there were hardly news covered about it, but this time, even forbes reported this issue.
