iPhone 11 screen scratches

I am experiencing the same issue. In all my years of owning every iPhone, I’ve never had a scratch on my screen until now and this is with only placing in my pocket with nothing in it but my phone. I’m very disappointed.

That is not how it works. These scratches LOOK UNUSUAL. They are happening when people used their phone in USUAL ways. Stop trying to derail the conversation that should be taking place. WHY is this happening? What is different about the screens?

Just to let everyone know that I went to the Apple Store where I bought my iphone and I got it replaced. I only mentioned I had Apple Care +; not sure this made a difference but they did not ask any other questions.

Concerned whether this will happen again (I decided to put a screen protector) but great reply from Apple.

No I did not have to use Apple Care hence did not pay anything; I just got the phone replaced.

I also mentioned other issues I had a bit of overheating and sharp metal edges in some places. They could see the phone was in perfect condition except the scratch/crack.

Just curious, when you trade in your iPhone to Apple, do you need to remove the screen protector first? How easy is that to do with various screen protectors like the Otterbox Amplify (which looks like it is Gorilla glass)?

Apple will typically want the screen protector removed. Removing one is actually very simple. Using a finger nail, you can lift it at the corner and once it starts to come up, you just gently pull it up and take it off.

According to the article, that's where things are headed. This year's iPhone does have Corning's Gorilla Glass 6. If you go to Youtube and watch drop tests of the new iPhone's, they are remaining crack free with drops far better than years past. But that in NO WAY means the screens can't be scratched. As has been posted over and over in this thread, there is a trade-off. To make the glass less prone to cracking, seems to make them easier to scratch as evidenced by the experience of many users in this thread. Samsung, who makes the displays for Apple uses the same glass on their phones this year. They are shipping them with a very cheap film screen protector, which scratches even easier, but does protect the glass itself from scratching.

Apple didn't put a cheap film on the new iPhone's. But a good screen protector seems to be highly recommended to protect these new screens this year.

No, that is not how it works. I can't believe this; people are just happy if Apple replaces it and no one is asking for answers from Apple as to why this is happening. What is different? What is wrong? Why is the screen different?

These smudges look very similar to the kind I get on my glasses. I'm sure some are scratches, especially if you can feel them with your fingernail but some might actually wipe away with some aggressive rubbing of a finger dipped in soap and water. Would be nice if someone would try that before returning it.

As I say, once in a while I get those kind of smudges on my glasses that don't seem to go away and look like scratches but when I actually rub hard with dish soap and water they eventually wipe away. Can't hurt if you're returning it anyway.

I was going to buy an iPhone 11, but then the news came out. Looks like a massive manufacturing defect. Hope it’s not a fault in the design.

I closely follow the situation, don’t really want to buy a screen protector to “solve” the issue.

From your pictures, it looks like you have a good case to protect the sides, but unfortunately there was an object that was hard and sharp enough to puncture the screen - hence the "bullet hole" near the bottom left.

I know this because I've dropped my phone more times than I can count on ten (or more) hands. While I now use a glass screen protector and case, the first time it dropped in a parking lot with small rocks that was exactly how it looked except the whole screen was full of those, not just the one that you have.

And like you, I felt absolutely frustrated - but once you get it fixed, it is absolutely necessary to get a screen protector for anything this expensive. Specifically, pick the tempered glass ones which has saved me from expensive repairs multiple times.

And yes, marketing is funny that way... the video shows the phone falling into a purse and of course they leave it up to us to decide what sort of soft or hard things are in that purse...

Most of us have never used screen protectors in the past. I've dropped phones from stairway banisters, my hands, out of pockets, etc. Never a crack.

My new iphone 11 pro developed an annoying screen flicker in the past hour. Weird.

I know people will assume I’ve been throwing it around but I’ve never had a cracked screen on previous iPhones and I’ve been treating this one like gold dust. I only noticed it tonight when I turned the phone to show something to my friend.

really disappointed and have the obligatory genius appointment booked in. I’d like this replaced and I’m assuming I’ll now have to get Apple Care.
