iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

12 years after the first iphone and this *definitely* has to be a fault in the manufacturing process? They haven't figured it out by now? What exactly are the screens made of? Why is the glass scratching like this? In such bizarre ways?

Maybe Apple won't reveal anything, they were mum about the IR laser...but I know I'm not the only one wondering why this is happening. Apparently it doesn't matter much, they just want their phone fixed?

Just bought an iphone 11 pro. As soon as I opened it and removed the plastic on the screen I noticed some marks underneath the screen glass, they look to be between the screen glass and the screen itself. They don't look to be scratches, they are shaped like a half moon shape and they are about 5-6 of them, around the left down corner. They don't obstruct the view of the screen, but you can notice them as light shines on them. I will post a picture tomorrow. Can anybody help?

Guess I am lucky, bought my MG-64gb on 9/23 from the local Apple store, and no scratches (not even micro scratches .. a good test is direct full sunlight outside). Prior to this, I had the X and XS ... neither had any marks at all after a year of owning each. I use the Apple leather case but no screen protector whatsoever. I regularly carry my phone in my front jeans pocket, and, periodically use a micro-fiber cloth to clean them.

After watching JerryRigEverything's video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jD5Gkh4K34), it appears that the 11 scratches at the same Mohs level that all prior iPhones did. With that in mind, it would seem that personal usage has changed (read: even if not obvious) or Apple somehow released a bad batch of inferior glass. Many of the scratches I see in this thread are WAY deeper than the oleophobic coating; that either takes some serious sand and grit, or, because of some defect in batches.

I hope everybody gets their problem resolved. I am anal about every single iPhone defect and over the years have had every other one it would seem, so I feel your pain!

I was going to buy an iPhone 11, but after reading these reviews I‘m really scared to change my IPhone 7 ( for the iPhone 11) witch has barely no scratch after 3 years and never had a protector on it. Did you find out about if this is a problem for most iPhones 11 or just isolated cases? How is your IPhone 11 now, has it gotten worst? What is Apple doing aout it?

Thank you.

This is all an imaginary controversy.

Sand will scratch essentially EVERY smartphone screen on the market (the only exceptions are the very few that have real sapphire screens). JerryRigEverything on YouTube has videos of physical testing showing there is zero difference in scratch resistance between the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 11 Pro Max (or for that matter, the Google Pixel 3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G). Sand (which is mostly quartz, which has a Mohs hardness of ~7) will scratch all these phones to the exact same degree. Coins, knives, keys will scratch the screens of NONE of them.

So get the phone you want and protect it with a case and a screen protector and stop worrying about it.

I don’t think it’s imaginary if there is so many people that complained about it. I never heard complains like that about previous versions of IPhone and I have had IPhones since the beginning of them, I had them all until the 7.

That's pretty much bunk. Every release of every new iPhone has two threads of complaints every year. One for screens scratching and one for Bluetooth connection issues. The only thing that is different this year is there seem to be more people complaining, but then this years launch was significantly bigger than the last two launches. All anyone had to do was put a decent screen protector on their new phone and they wouldn't have any issues. And for those who say they don't want one (my opinion here), they're being foolish not protecting a $1,000+ investment. And screen protectors DON'T just protect a screen from scratches, they often take a hit and crack instead of the iPhone screen cracking, providing even more protection.

As has been posted several times earlier in this thread, every single release of iPhone has had similar reports of scratched screens (as have Samsungs, etc.). But apparently this time there are no other significant problems with the new iPhones to write about, so this silly non-controversy has been picked up by a few news sites. One can't expect journalists to use their brains I guess.

If people would just think about it, they would realize that quartz sand, which is pretty ubiquitous (it's a component of dirt for God's sake!) will scratch essentially EVERY smart phone on the market. So big surprise then that some people are unlucky enough to get their phones scratch, and so they look for others online with the same experience, see a few new reports linking to this thread, and then come here and complain.

When you consider that Apple has probably sold several million new iPhone 11/11Pro/11 Pro Max in the past 3 1/2 weeks, these few reports here are not remotely significant.

And if you don't believe actual physical testing by JerryRigEverything, one of the most respected smartphone testers (who constantly criticizes Apple in his videos going back years, so he's clearly not an iPhone fan), but prefer to believe a small number of anonymous posters on the Internet, then I have an unscratchable iPhone prototype I'd like to sell you...

***While you are at it, you might note in the Google Pixel 3 XL video how much more prone to scratches the back of their phone is relative to the iPhones and Samsungs. Let's complain about that!

This is unbelievable. These are really expensive phones!! I'm glad that I installed a screen protector since day 1. I know that is not the right solution to the problem because the right solution would be Apple using screens that work as they should (they are meant to be touched!!!). Meanwhile I recommend to use a screen protector for new devices or after you get your screen replaced. Immediately put the screen protector after peeling the plastic. The one I use is really cheap and it feels really good on the touch. After trying many screen protectors I finally found one that works well and it is scratch resistant (ironically it looks like the screen protector is doing a better job that the screens on the new iPhones, oh well). Just Google spigen tempered glass and you'll see what I'm talking about. Good luck everybody!

It's not unbelievable and what you did was smart and what EVERY person who buys a super expensive new phone SHOULD do. I put a screen protector on my new iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 11, before they were even turned on. It's smart to take precautions to avoid scratches. News Flash. Glass scratches. ALL cell phones made of glass scratch. ALL OF THEM. And most of these people complaining have been putting their phones in their pockets. Pockets collect lint and, dust, sand, all sorts or particles, which can scratch a phone screen. They're inviting scratches, then coming here and complaining about scratches. If they want to be mad at someone, they should look in the mirror.

Look at the post above with the links. This isn't new or unique to iPhone 11.

In about 6 months maximum, we will probably have the proof that these iPhones 11 screens scratches much more than other previews generations of IPhones. In the mean time, I’m keeping my iPhone 7, without a screensaver on it, as usual, witch also still looks like a new one, even though I use it every day and a lot, also put in my purse with other stuff. I prefer to wait for Apple to fix the problem they made with the screen of iPhone 11.

Wow this discussion is really getting hot!

As previously stated my Iphone is one week old. I do have several light scratches... maybe from dust or sand.

I don't know... I also have 3 tiny deeper scratches though, than can easily be felt with the fingernail... so this concerns me quite a bit... because now these scratches/marks might get bigger.... so I think people have the right to be upset about this.

I used this Iphone in no way different than my previous ones.... and... come on... after 1 week????

Probably you are right... all smartphones are made of glass and can be scratched.... but Apple made a huge mistake here and is now simply suffering the consequences... They said (quote) 'the toughest glass ever in a smartphone'!!

So and now people simply figured out thats not true. Also they videos how they promoted it: cat scratching it over the corner of a glasstable and the Iphone falling into the handbag jumping around between keys and lipstick.....

The brand simply did not live up to their promise!
