iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

I took mine to the Apple store and they said it was clearly an issue and because I alerted them to the problem within 30 days they offered me a replacement or full refund, but I think my issue might be a bit different to everyone’s here, as it wasn’t a scratch as such just an odd fault that went away when cleaned but returned afterwards

hope everyone gets theirs sorted and I hope I don’t get the same issue again!

Similar case here, never used a protector for my iPhone 6 and after five years of daily use I never got scratches on it. One week after receiving iPhone 11 I already had light scratches on the screen. I'm always super careful with my devices and the only thing touching the screen is my pockets with nothing else inside or my fingers. After noticing the first scratches I was being even more careful but more and more scratches kept appearing on the screen.

I contacted Apple, explained my situation and the answer was "it's cosmetic damage and we're not going to do anything about it". I was a couple of days over the 14-day return period but I asked to return the phone anyway because paying $800 for a device that scratches practically on its own is just unacceptable. I got transferred to 4-5 different people and explained my situation to all of them, firmly but politely demanding to return the phone. Eventually I was told they'll make an exception and process the return for a full refund. They asked me a lot of questions about my order, whether I picked it up or had it delivered etc. They even asked multiple times if the phone had scratches on it when I first got it, which I found very weird.

I decided to take my refund and buy another iPhone 11 and had my local Apple store install a protector on it immediately. Upon receiving the second phone I inspected it very carefully while unboxing it and noticed that the plastic film covering the screen had fingerprints on it and small dust particles under it, which clearly showed that the phone had been unboxed and then put back together. I peeled off the plastic and noticed a small scratch on the screen, straight out of the box. This was clearly a used/returned item that was then sold to me as "new". I ordered it directly through Apple's website.

I went to the local Apple store, explained them that the phone has a scratch straight out of the box and asked to exchange it to a phone that's actually new. The lady said "no problem", processed the exchange and installed a screen protector on my new (third) iPhone 11. I clearly explained the reason for exchanging the phone and when her device was asking for a reason for the return, instead of "damaged on arrival" she marked it as "buyer's remorse". I'm sure that phone that's now had two previous owners will go back on the shelf and get sold to someone as "new".

For everyone who's getting these scratches, don't just post on forums. Contact Apple directly through their online chat or phone. Don't take no for an answer. They're aware of the problem but they're trying to shrug it off saying it's your fault. They have clearly released a product with a faulty screen that can not withstand normal everyday use. As more and more people get their new phones this problem is just going to keep growing until Apple launches a recall/repair program.

Really? Even if they do, based on this thread, clearly Samsung or Apple, depending on how you want to look at it, is doing something different or is there a Samsung version of this thread you can direct us to? Without Apple or Corning making a statement people can only assume it's unique to Apple and what they may or may not be doing during manufacturing.

. The iphones last years are NOT using the standard gorilla glass formula and instead use a custom one for them. The iphone 11 DOES NOT have gorilla glass 6 and even the drop survival of that phone proves it as gg6 can’t survive that good + apple said it’s custom and different than the other phone makers. If you are so confident that the iphone 11 uses gg6 - SOURCE. As we all know what apple said and that the glass behaves different in both scratch resistance and shatter resistance vs gg6 phones.

Returned my iPhone 11 Pro Max today to Sprint due to screen scratches. Paid $45 restocking fee. Sprint reloaded my iPhone 6S Plus. Had the 11 for 2 weeks then bought screen protector in week 3 but it was too late. Big deep scratches especially near corners. I suspect it was from being in my shirt pocket with a pen. I decided the screen glass has has flawed composition or flawed edges that easily allow scratches that start at edge or glass. Screen protectors might not go to edges.

Otherwise phone is very good, slightly faster and slightly better telecom than my 6S. 3 camera mode was my favorite feature.

Furious. Have had 3-4 iPhones in the past each for 2-3 years at a time and I have never had a scratched screen. I take care of my things, which is why this is most upsetting. To have just purchased an 11 max and pull it out of my empty pocket to find a scratch that can be caught with my nail is just terrible. The lack of attention to the obvious problem is even more disturbing to me. I will follow this closely and sooner or later, I will demand some recourse.

If you’re within 14 days of purchase, return it for a refund if you can.

if not, sell it as used, you should get a chunk of that money back.

To say the money was “wasted” when aside from a screen scratch your phone is 100% functional is patently ridiculous.

This looks like the top layer of your screen splintered. This is similar to the "pseudo sapphire" lens covers since iPhone X. Only the super thin top layer splintered here. I hope that enough people will complain about the "improved" screen quality to make the Apple engineers at least consider testing better scratch and splinter protection (before thinness)...

I don't know, the scratch is felt by running your finger across the screen. I have an iPhone 7 with two years of use that looks better. I saw the screen that Apple changed to my friend and it has nothing to do with mine, it is brighter (mine looks matte next to his) not all the lint of the environment is stuck on it and you do not notice the finger traces.
