iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

Hello, I wanted to buy new iPhone 11, before that I checked new iPhones in our local store showroom...all of them (11 and 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max) were heavily scratched. After one week in the showroom. iPhones 8 were in better condition after year in the same place:(( I decided to wait with my purchase a bit longer until Apple will officially respond to this issue:(

I have exactly the same case. Got my 11 Pro Max and after just two days of using it - and being VERY careful - there's already now scratches in the screen that you can actually feel all the time with your fingertips when using the phone. NEVER had any scratches like these in my previous iPhone models - that are many.

Apple - you must react to that and replace these "toughest glasses" to something that doesn't get scratches in two days. This is shameful. I would be very happy with the previous glass.

I have the same problem. I did an online chat with an Apple associate and they made an appointment at the Apple store. The store associate told me that there’s been a lot of issues coming in and they wouldn’t be surprised if there was a recall or repair at some point. Other than that for now they said it would be treated as regular wear and tear and they’d charge me to fix it. Ugh!

I have an iPhone 11 Pro, and the tiny scratches have been appearing on the screen since delivery day a month ago. The scratches are only visible when you angle the phone a certain way.

I only keep my phone in my pocket with nothing else in there. No rough edges. I have never used a screen protector before and have never had any scratches like this with my other iPhones.

Apple needs to replace these phones, or at least the screens. It is very annoying considering how expensive they are.

Tell us how the screen of your iphone 11 (pro) behaves.

I hope the company officially recognizes defective screens. Otherwise, you will have to wait a long time until articles and videos from bloggers appear. And all the same there will remain doubts "which particular party came to me?"

And I really want to buy 2-3 devices before the presentation of iphone 12.

Nice deflection from the man in the vid, he's always way too positive about everything Apple bring out I have noticed. But the female presenter has the same issue as the rest of us in this thread and she's quite shocked but stifled by the other guy who wants to discuss how wonderful it is.

I took it to the store, they looked at it (see the pics above to see the original post I made) and they agreed there were loads of scratches on it and said I must have had keys in my pocket or sand. I said I have a left pocket free policy since 2009 when I had my first iphone and sarcastically said that I don't live near a beach and they basically said 'tough luck - pay up for repairs or this conversation ends here'. I said I had paid 1300 euros for a phone that scratches in 3 weeks? And they said 'look, it's common sense, you buy a phone, you buy a cover, and a screen protector.' I said I had never bought either and have more scratches on this phone in 3 weeks than I have in all other iphones in 9-10 years combined with no different behaviour on how I handle the iphone.

So then I said that the box should say REQUIRES COVER AND GLASS PROTECTOR on the box or when you start it up OR at that price it should come with protection for both (and don't even start with 'you paid this much and you won't buy protection? It's not the point) if it's so necessary. And they looked at me with a wide eyed stare.

Pretty annoyed, not sure what I am going to do, I am deeply immersed in the apple ecosystem alas (and have been for a long time) but this irks me more than it should. Essentially they can bring out what they like: PRO.. OLED.. 8K... TIME MACHINE READY.. and if there is a major flaw in this tech, they can say it's not covered by warranty when it's basically a design issue that has not been acknowledged yet. The screen looks fantastic... BUT... it's not really appropriate for a device you move around constantly day and night. It might be ok as a display on an object that you know.. DOESN'T MOVE, that you DON'T ACTUALLY TOUCH.

Imagine if there was a high end TV available, it cost 5k. It's a PRO TV. Everyone wants to buy it, but it has a side effect/flaw, and that is that it is very sensitive to living room lights. In fact, if you put it in your living room without a special screen protector, you will start to see lines on the screen after a few weeks. There is no mention of this unfortunate 'potential' affliction on the box of the tv or any warning when you start up the tv. It's just "common sense" that after spending 5k of your cash on this, you go out and spend 100-150 bux on a screen protector.

If you had read my post properly (which regrettably I doubt at this point based on your 2 subsequent posts) I don't buy protective screens, good quality or not, as it's not advised anywhere on the box or when buying (I bought online with Apple) and additionally, I've never had to as I have never had scratches on any of my iphones I have owned since 2009 until 3 weeks ago on this model, the Apple iPhone 11 pro Midnight Green 256GB.

Actually it's not a lie and if you took the time to read all through this thread, you'd see there is no correlation between hardness of glass (meaning harder to break, which iPhone 11 most definitely is) and glass scratching. There is an article from The Verge posted multiple times in this thread which explains why the glass scratches. It just makes sense to protect your valuable investment against scratches with an inexpensive screen protector.

Oct 23, 2019 6:31 AM in response to lobsterghost1

As many here have told, any screen protector has never been necessary in the previous iPhone models. I have used iPhones over 10 years and never had a protector - never needed one. Now suddenly the greatest glass ever needs to be protected with some 3rd party product!

I simply don’t like the protectors because the screen response is not quite the same. If it was, why Apple doesn’t put those ”inexpensive protectors” to their flagship iPhone as default?

Oct 23, 2019 6:32 AM in response to lobsterghost1

How you would know? You never used a phone without a screen protector. My note 9 is over a year old without a single scratch or dent + my other phones that I used in the past 20 years are in perfect condition too. Magic, right? ;)

I can't see anywhere on the box: requires a screen protector and a case. I would imagine that I can use it the same way as all my phones during the past 20 years and expect it to be atleast as durable regarding scratches. Also I had phones with GG3, GG4 and GG5 (4 and 5 are regarded as softer ones) - no problems at all. Have around few phones with GG6 that are used by close to me people - no problems at all.

It amazes me how a person that used screen protectors for every single smartphone he used ever, is saying how the glass in iphone 11 is the same as X phone. It's totally ok to express opinion and also to protect your phone, but 60+ comments? Most of the people here are far from uneducated or unable to do basic google search about the topic. Also most people that use their phones naked, especially in the first weeks are super careful - fact.

This is either a defective batch or badly engineered glass that is flawed. People that drop their phone use case/screen protector and the iphone 11 added strength won't matter - the XS will survive the same. Those of us that don't drop, leave facedown on the table, clean our pockets even after washing and never carry the phone with something in the pocket - we are forced to use a screen protector. But again - I don't see that in the box, I watched ad how it's "tough out there" regarding water resistance, scratch resistance and funny enough - not that much the drop resistance or you think that the iphone 8 will break from a cake dropped on top of it? :)

There's no point in arguing about it guys, it's quite clear from all on here, and every other forum and outlet on the internet, that the iPhone 11 screens are easily scratched, more easily than previous models, despite Apply claiming they are the toughest screens ever.

The screens are not fit for purpose, and as such anyone who wants to get a refund, repair or replacement of their product is (depending on jurisdiction) probably entitled.

Apple are aware of the issue, but even their tech advisors have not yet been told what the company line is (if a policy even exists which I doubt), as an admission of failure of QC and subsequent recalls/free repairs might be commercially damaging to the company.

I suspect Apple are hoping people will just get tired of complaining about it and the issue will die down on its own.

We need to keep up the complaints until they are forced to take an appropriate action, not argue amongst ourselves about whether one should use a screen protector or not.
