iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

I am not the one complaining...

Point is, there is no fix, solution or whatever by complaining on this forum. If you want a solution or an answer, you will need to reach out to Apple Support and/or leave feedback on their website. This forum are just Apple users not employees.

Hope that makes sense.

What is your purpose in posting in this thread? You are doing the same thing in the macbook pro thread. You're disrupting these threads for the sake of creating arguments, derailing and frustrating other people.

While the truth can be frustrating and create arguments, it's still the truth.

The explanation was given in previous posts.

Yes, prior models were more scratch-resistant with the result that there were many, many more reports of screens shattering from a relatively minor drop; just use your favorite Internet search engine if you don't believe me. Those reports have become quite rare in the iPhone 11 models (though of course it's still quite possible, even from a single low drop just due to dumb bad luck.)

If you choose to ignore that, it's fine, but literally millions of people are using this type of glass every day without issue on phones from every vendor, not just Apple.

If you want to complain to Apple about it, feel free:

Frankly, most would be happy to have a few marks on their screen rather than have to pay $149 or more to have it replaced if it shatters, and even those few marks can be completely avoided simply by using a $10 screen protector.

apple please provide a program to put newer screens on the iPhone 11’s being scratched after this pandemic is over

Apple isn't here on this user to user only forum. Just other users. So asking Apple to do anything here will get you absolutely nothing.

Apple isn't here on this user to user only forum. So telling Apple to be transparent won't get you anything. Tell Apple directly if you're not happy by providing feedback via this link --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

But you should read this thread to better understand why this years phones (as well as Samsung, LG and Google) scratch easier in return for glass which is much harder to break if dropped. In fact, the new formula in the glass has virtually wiped the angry threads that people's phones cracked away as we just don't see hardly any people complaining this time around. You can make glass harder to break, but easier to scratch. Or you can make phone harder to scratch, but easier to break. No one has yet figured out how to accomplish both in a glass formula.

That other manufacturers are also using soft glass or that it is deliberate is entirely irrelevant to the fact that for many of us scratch resistance and not shatter resistance is the more important attribute.

Then tell Apple that. Apple, Samsung, LG, Google - All chose hardness as the more important feature. Personally, I'm glad they did. I put a screen protector on my phone before it even got turned on on launch day last September. My phone doesn't have a single scratch on it. But if I do scratch the screen protector, I can easily and inexpensively replace it. The screen itself if broken costs significantly more.

Again, you can certainly provide feedback to Apple directly via this link but don't expect them to change their position on this. And you can always buy a phone from another company, but since they're all using this newer glass, it won't help you much. Use this link --> https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I honestly don't care if you think I'm right or wrong. The point is the screens are easier to scratch and whether you're happy or not isn't going to change anything. Either put a screen protector on your phone and move on, or complain. But complaining here accomplishes nothing.

Apple isn't here on this user to user only forum. If you think your objection is making a difference here, you're wrong.

Provide feedback to Apple via this link, which is the ONLY way to ensure Apple hears from you --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

And you're telling me this why? I don't work for Apple. I didn't design the glass on iPhone. I do believe however, given the utter total disappearance of "help, I dropped my phone and am being required to pay hundreds of $$'s for a new screen" threads which used to be common place on a daily basis around here, suggests many might disagree with you. But hey, if you don't like the new glass formula, don't argue your beef with me, another user. Tell Apple how you feel, as you certainly have not done that by complaining here. Feedback to Apple goes here --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

You see, no matter how mad you are or get, I just don't agree with you as I've always believed the very inexpensive cost of a good screen protector gives me the best of two worlds. Glass which is harder to shatter. And with a protector, harder to scratch. But it doesn't matter whether we agree or don't agree.

This is exactly right.

If my previous 2 iPhones could last as long as they did without scratching, and Apple is boldly advertising the "toughest glass" in any phone, then the only possibilities are:

  • false advertising
  • manufacturing defect
  • or... someone took a diamond tipped drill to it while I was in the bathroom

I trust and believe in Apple - I have for many years.

If they tell me this glass is as good or better than any phone ever had, I'm going to assume with a high amount of confidence that it will easily withstand my version of day-to-day use, as my previous iPhones did so admirably.

The way my blemish appeared makes me suspect some weird problem with this glass.

The scratch/crack seemed to just appear. Even if it was caused by something I did and didn't notice, it was something I must have done at least dozens of times to my previous iPhones, and they are still spotless.

Thus, I know for a FACT via personal experience that this glass is definitely different in some way.

Maybe someone spilled their beer in the acid bath for one batch of glass? Who knows?

Regardless, community members and the OP have the right to know they're not alone, they're not crazy, and they may be entitled to redress.

Most high quality screen protectors are indeed oleophobic. The one Apple sells and installs on iPhones are Belkin and they are oleophobic coated. My iPhone is wearing the Belkin and it's highly resistant to finger prints.

From Belkin's website about their screen protector for iPhone 11 Pro Max:

MULTI-LAYER PROTECTION PACKED INTO ONLY 0.29MM

  1. Anti-fingerprint and scratch resistance coating keeps screen clean and scratch-free
  2. Ion-exchange chemically engineered glass provides enhanced strength while maintaining a smooth glass feel
  3. Optically clear adhesive bonds glass to base for ultimate screen clarity
  4. Base layer provides buffer between glass and screen
  5. Fluid adhesive prevents gaps minimizes lifting

What’s the reason for some to defend Apple here? I believe most of us - experiencing this very frustrating serious defect in iPhone 11’s glass material - have been very loyal Apple customers for years. I have purchased various Apple products at least with 25,000€ over the years for my personal use and normally I have been pleased to their quality. Now I am not.

The simple facts are these:

  • iPhone glass quality used to be very good
  • iPhone 11 glass quality is way worse than before
  • Apple told it to be the toughest glass ever, that is just a lie
