iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

Older smartphones had more scratch resistant, but more brittle glass.

Since people don't like paying $300 to replace their glass when dropping their phone a foot, cell phone makers overall (not just Apple) moved to formulas that are more shatter-resistant but are slightly more scratch prone.

This issue is solved with a $20 screen protector; you can't apply something for $20 that will stop your screen from shattering in a fall.

Got two new iPhone 11 Pro's... both scratched in 1 day with normal use. Just in and out of a jeans pocket. I think Apple must have a manufacturing process defect. Like they have a batch of screens which don't have the proper coating applied or something. My 6s Plus I used for several years without any major scratches... iPhone 11 Pro took only 1 day.

Something is seriously wrong... for a $1,400 phone.

Apple, I absolutely expect a free of charge screen replacement in my future when you figure out what went terribly wrong.

I just got the iPhone 11 Pro Max the other day. I read these threads before the purchase and asked about it at the store that I bought it from. I asked that if it happened to mine if I could return it within the 14 day period and they said I could.

So, I am walking around with it in my pocket to try and recreate this issue. I put it in different pockets and walk around bending, sitting, standing, walkin, and moving around to try to make this happen.

This is day 3, and today I did a 4 mile walk over at the park with it in the front pocket of my jeans. I pulled it out several time to take pictures and could feel it rubbing back and forth in my pocket the whole time I was walking. I was not gentle as I was taking it out and putting it back in my pocket because I want to try and reproduce this, so I just did it the same way as I would normally do it with any other phone.

As of right now the screen is still perfect and like I just pulled the plastic off when I got it. I will keep this thread posted as time goes on, but so far not even the faintest micro scratch to be found.

I never put my phone face down on anything because even a grain of salt could scratch any screen, and I always feel the inside of my pocket for any thing abrasive before i put my phone in that pocket as well.

I wonder if it's just a bad batch or something?

Are there any people who do not use a case or screen protector that are "NOT" having this issue?

I’ve only had my IPhone 11 for 10 days now and I noticed a deep hairline crack or scratch in it out of nowhere. I never dropped the phone and I’ve carefully taken care of it. Needless to say I’m very upset that Apple isn’t really responding to all these complaints or taking initiative to respond on how to rectify the situation.

I called personally and spoke to customer service who set up an appointment at an Apple store to see about replacing the screen and the support guy said in my notes it’s possibly a known issue with the glass... So does that mean they do know about it? I’ve seen many people reply they took it to Apple stores and got turned away saying the store said it was user abuse so now I’m concerned the same might happen to me in the same situation. The closets Apple store is an hour away... Apple please rectify this!!!

The problem is not common and always depends on how you treat the phone. Some people have been with the mobile for almost a week and have not even inserted the SIM card, despite having been dreaming about the iPhone 11, but there are many users around the globe who have been squeezing the phone to the fullest since leaving the sale. These have been launched to the networks highlighting the good of the mobile but also the bad and one of the worst aspects of the mobile is how easy it is to scratch it.

I see many tiny scratches on the iPhone 11 Pro within a week of use even though I'm very very very careful with it and never have anything(!) else whatsoever in my pocket. The tiny scratches all over the screen can be seen with a dark background and a certain angle. Some can be felt lightly when going over them with a fingernail.

I have used my iPhone 7 the exact same way (no screen protector) and even after all those years no scratches like the ones I have now in week!!!

I went to the official Apple Store in The Hague, The Netherlands. I was told that this is categorized as "cosmetic" and therefore doesnt fall under any warranty whatsover. I was advised to call Apple Support. Same answer.

I'm so dissappointed by Apple. When is Apple going to take Scratch Gate serious and provide a solution?

Gosh Will. It’s not perspective or prerogative, it’s fact. Have you actually seen the ads? If not check them out on Apple’s official YouTube page.

The TV ad shows the phone being knocked off a sideboard by a cat, falling down the side of a car seat, being dropped in a bag with a bunch of other items. If you shouldn’t do this with the phone why advertise it that way?

As for the reviews, well that simply backs up my point - mine smashed from a drop of three inches while everything Apple drop theirs from 12 feet before it broke - why the disparity? There’s got to be an issue with some batches of phones right? Apple should help customers affected it’s just the right thing to do.

I just want what Apple promised they could provide. That’s all. It reasonable to expect this as a minimum.

Its not about the issues so much as the phone isn’t performing as Apple said it would, and that’s not their customers fault it’s Apple.

It’s about taking responsibility and doing the right thing.

+1 iPhone 11 Pro kept in a bill fold style leather case that provides protection front and back. Never been dropped, never been carried in a pocket or a bag with other items. I've babied this phone since the day I got it. Today I notice a deep 1/4-1/3 inch crack right near the center of the screen.

I ask Apple support about it and they tell me it's not a design defect and that cosmetic damage isn't covered. Bear in mind, Apple advertises this as the "toughest glass in any smart phone, front and back."

Well, my toughest iPhone glass of any smart phone, front and back, managed to develop a deep and distracting scratch right in the center of the screen seemingly on its own and I am baffled as to how it got there or how such an allegedly wear and tear resistant screen could sport such a scratch after how well I've treated the phone.

Same as most here - I've had every iPhone since the 3GS (barring maybe the 5s?) without a screen protector and never had an issue with scratches. With the iPhone 11 Pro, lots of light scratches and a fairly deep gouge near the top which I noticed after just the first few weeks. Heck, I used my old iPhone X for a year, then gave it to my wife who's been using it for over a year (and isn't nearly as friendly on phones) and it's in better shape. Maybe I'll stop by the Apple store with both my 11 and X and see what they say!

Fun story, chatted with customer support online. Was told I'd have to take it into the store for a service appointment. Go into the store, speak with a representative for literally less than 1 minute without him even looking at the screen, just simply says scratches are cosmetic and not covered.

Obviously a frustrating experience, contacted online customer support again and was told even if the scratch was classified as non-cosmetic it still wouldn't be covered and I would have to pay a repair fee. So 3 weeks into owning my first iPhone I have a nice deep scratch that is clearly noticeable with the phone on and off and have some of the worst customer support I've ever received from any company. Unfortunately I am 10 days past the 14 day return window, otherwise I would be returning this phone without thinking a single second more on it.

The dude took a razor knife and a key to the thing and it did not scratch, so I can't for the life of me see how a pocket could scratch it.

This is day 7 with my iPhone Pro Max, and i have been purposely trying to scratch it with my pockets, pant legs, shirt, gloves, and even picked at it with my finger nail. There is not a scratch to be found yet.

The only thing that makes sense to me it that there must be a bad batch of phones out there.

Still have 7 days to return it, so I'm going to keep trying to scratch it with normal use. I'm not going to do anything different than I do with any other phone.
