iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

Older smartphones had more scratch resistant, but more brittle glass.

Since people don't like paying $300 to replace their glass when dropping their phone a foot, cell phone makers overall (not just Apple) moved to formulas that are more shatter-resistant but are slightly more scratch prone.

This issue is solved with a $20 screen protector; you can't apply something for $20 that will stop your screen from shattering in a fall.

The iPhone 11 is advertised as being super strong and scratch proof - in the ad it shows it bouncing around the woman's purse with her keys and other things - seems to be false advertising to me. I had my iPhone 11 for 1 week, I only keep it in my pants pocket or on the table - not coming in contact with anything sharp - and the screen already has 2 scratches on it. I've had iPhones for years, and I've never had this problem before. I think it's a lot of BS and false advertising from Apple, this screen is junk.

I purchase my phone 2 months ago. Our city like many others has been in Covid lockdown. I purchased my phone at the beginning of the stay at home order and have not left the house with it. The screen has scratches all over it. Did i mention it has a case on it? Apple told me it was my fault for cosmetic defects. I spent an hour on the phone with them only to be sent on my way for with my defective glass and disappointing iPhone. I was also told that “the strongest glass used on an iPhone ever” is not designed to withstand scratches. This maybe my last iPhone after 11 versions. Shame on you apple.

It's not a poor quality product.

I can direct you to thousands of Internet posts complaining how easy it is to scratch a Pixel 3, and there are people who have not scratched their iPhone 11s.

Here's one, if you like:

If you care to read it, I will post this yet again (note this article isn't even about iPhones):

If you can find an advertisement where the iPhone 11 was promised to be scratch resistant, let us all know.

As mentioned, I had an iPhone 7+ for 5 years without a screen protector with no issues. When googling reviews of the phone I did not see the scratch issue come up in any article.

All I’m asking is that Apple acknowledge the issue and recommend a screen protector at purchase. I’m sure these complaints are no surprise to the phone’s engineers. I’d happily pay $30 to protect the most important function of an $800 phone.

It’s also a bit disingenuous to say Apple trusts that their customers to know what to do while they tout the “toughest glass ever in a smartphone” that can be ruined by a quarter or grain of sand in your pocket.

My I phone 11 is not even two weeks old. There is a scratch that is about two inches on my screen and it hasn’t been dropped. I upgraded from an X. I never had protection on my X and never had a scratch. I have had a case on since day one with this phone and now have a big scratch. I am very unhappy and will be calling to see if there are any options. I was told the screen is way better than the X from the staff at AT&T. Not happy. At all.

I have had my new iphone 11 plus for less than a month. I’m always super careful with my phones and suddenly there was a scratch on the screen today.

My phones always have a case and always travel in the same pocket in my purse. A designated pocket just for it.

it does have a zipper, but not some crazy phone screen attacking zipper.

what gives? This must be a defect in the way they processed the glass?? I’ve never had this issue before. It’s not as hard as previous models. There is just no way. This flaw defeats the purpose of a touch screen dust/proof/waterproof phone. And more to the point - makes me seriously question if I would buy another one in future.

I love how all the people recommend a screen protector out of the box for this phone. I have had numerous iPhones over the years from the 6plus to the 11 pro I have now. Screen protectors as well as cases do little to nothing for these phones. Now before all of you jump down my throat saying well something in your pants pocket caused it or you put it next to your keys let me stop you dead in your tracks my phone with the exception of my iPhone 5 have never seen the inside of my pocket there are only two places they have been either in my hand or sitting flat on charging pad. Yet they all suffered the same fate. I have a dresser draw full of cases and screen protectors now collecting dust, because they still didn’t save the phone.

I’m on the same boat. Just got the 11pro and got a scratch doing exactly the same daily routine I’ve been doing for the last 7 years. Never had issues with any of my previous iPhone screens. We are definitely having some quality issues with these new screens. Like someone said here, a touch phone MUST have a bit more scratch resistance than we are getting, specially for the amount of money we paid for these phones. Come Apple, what about being transparent and taking care of the problem!!!!

You should be aware that only Apple and Apple Authorized Service Providers can replace the screen on iPhone with genuine screens. As such, the price would be the same whether Apple or say, Best Buy did it. If anyone uses your advice and goes to a technician who claims to offer Apple service, they are going to put a non-authentic screen on someone's phone, which will void the phone warranty and render many things like FaceID totally useless.

ONLY APPLE OR APPLE AUTHORIZED SERVICE PROVIDERS SHOULD EVER TOUCH iPhone.
