iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

Older smartphones had more scratch resistant, but more brittle glass.

Since people don't like paying $300 to replace their glass when dropping their phone a foot, cell phone makers overall (not just Apple) moved to formulas that are more shatter-resistant but are slightly more scratch prone.

This issue is solved with a $20 screen protector; you can't apply something for $20 that will stop your screen from shattering in a fall.

Unfortunately, the facts don't back you up. The iPhone 6S and prior models were demonstrably more scratch prone than the iPhone 11 Pro Max. The 6S could be scratched by a razor blade, whereas the 11 Pro Max cannot.

Ok you got me! It’s obviously harder to scratch than ancient plastic screens. Or some other random phones scratchy screen.

You are missing the point.

It scratches easier than earlier iPhones. And correct me if I’m wrong, but earlier iPhones cost 250-500 bucks. You must at the very least recognize that this new $1000+ phone has many many people complaining about the scratches. And when a company claims something as bold as Strongest screen ever, people are going to feel misled.

But as time passes you will see that this is a widespread issue, and no amount of tech jargon and explaining away the fact will rectify it.

Their was a mistake made, and time will tell.

No, you're missing the point.

Just the two videos posted above demonstrably prove that the iPhone 11 screen does not scratch "easier than earlier iPhones."

I have seen nothing that disproves the "strongest" claim, as once again "strength" does not mean "scratch-proof."

Can I ask - how could you find the forum if you are not suffering from the problem?

I've feeling some of guys coming here just to blame customers who experienced problem that it is purely our fail and Apple has nothing to do with that. Hope they do that for free.

Another part could be case/screen protectors marketers. That's right topic to advertise, yeah.

Lot of affected customers has long experience with different iPhone models. Why they start blaming suddenly if that's usual stuff like some "happy customers" tries to prove. For me it is obvious - that's manufacturing defect.

I disagree. I bought into this lie that the iPhone 11 has the toughest glass. They said it in their demo. My phone has a micro scratch about an inch long. The angle/direction of the scratch looks like it was caused simply cleaning it, nothing more. Mine lives in a full case where even the screen is covered so no damage due to knocks or rubbing against something. For mine to scratch like this proves these screens are NOT made of tough glass.

Well I’m happy for you that your £1000+ or $1000+ phone has no scratches but it means nothing to those of us who have and who take really good care of their phones. Scratches should not be a factor for this high end phone. I’ve own only high end phones since 2004 and never had issues with scratches on the screen. Within 2 weeks my micro scratch appeared. Yes micro scratch, probably from a micro fibre clothes removing finger prints!!!!

Hahahha good one, here you go - a pool from 2017 (won't do the research for you to find a recent pool with similar result) with over 21 000 voters:

https://www.androidpolice.com/2017/04/30/weekend-poll-screen-protector-or-no/

tl:dr

51 percent of the voters are not using any kind of a screen protector, 49 percent are using.

Quite a lot more people are not using one as you think and a lot are using it so it's normal to have a market for them. So, you think apple should not consider the 51% of the people that are NOT using a screen protector? Also I can't see anywhere on the box or media that using a screen protector is basically a must, because the phone can't survive alone in a pocket for a week without damage (and as you saw on some of the pictures, the damage can be absurdly big). Nor I can see a preinstalled screen protector and a warning that the screen scratches easily.

Seriously + for what you need that extra shatter resistance glass if you slap a high quality screen protector that will protect your screen and break instead of it? The iphone 11 for you will survive the same way as iphone 6s, 7, X, xs, etc.

This issue is on us, the other 51% of the buyers.

Again. I will trust or not to you. Same you do. But why the **** ive used iPhones for 10 years in same way and didn’t get problem with scratches. And now I have. You may also suggest jeans became much better or stronger. But nope. Exactly same jeans I’ve used last two months to keep iPhone X without scratches and less than 3 weeks enough for iPhone 11 pro.

The reason why I’m complaining here not because of iPhone is too expensive. Nobody complains about in last pages. We are just so sad that great company in past start issuing devices with weak screen. Maybe we can help overall apple degradation - that’s about iOS either or MacOS. But ok. We are just focused on screen in iPhone 11. Lot of people with experience like me ~10 years complaining they didn’t have such issue. And once at sudden - it is appeared. And that’s because of strong glass. oook...

I have used at least some 7 different iPhones - and I know what their screens can take. I have never complained about their quality before - and never had a screen protector - always had Apple back cover, never broke a screen. I have also a lot of other Apple products I’ve been pretty happy with. Now if I can clearly see that in the latest model there is a serious defect, I’m quite sure that it wouldn’t be Apple’s best interest that long-term loyal customers ”sell their Apple products and never purchase another Apple product again” that was suggested. Instead of that this matter can be handled professionally, to benefit all parties.

I'm here providing factual data, and others are claiming that my data is either wrong (it's not) or that the device is defective because they either judge the word "strong" differently or have managed to not bother to spend $20-$40 to protect the front surface of a device they consider expensive.

If Linus thinks it scratches easily, that's his thing - he's said any number of wildly inaccurate things over the years that his fans love to hear.

Not to mention claiming that there's an issue with a new Apple device is an incredible way of gaining views and driving traffic, which is literally how he makes a living.

I don't get a dime from pointing out that "scratches easily" is a very common complaint with newer phones, which is why The Verge wrote their article last year, and that wasn't even about iPhones.

A quick search revealed:

"Linus Tech Tips Net Worth – $18 Million

The others are Techquickie and Channel Super Fun which are both very successful. He is the main host in most of the videos. Through these Linus has generated an estimated net worth of $18 million over the years through his ownership of LinusMedia Group."
