iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

Don’t worry, I didn’t mean you. :)

It‘s interesting to know that not every phone has that issue. Of course everyone can share his/her experiences with the phone.

The people I addressed with my post are those who repetitively give the same statements and act like they were the only ones knowing the truth, subliminal saying that everyone else is wrong or talking trash.

I'd like to mention that some people posting here claiming to be regular users and scientists may be working for Apple, and they may not be scientists, some even may be aliens from outer space (or at the very least they may be Scandinavian mythological creatures living under a bridge)!

Not that I'm accusing anyone of anything.

So disappointed. After 2 years with my IPhone 8, I only had 2 superficial scratches, barely visible. After one month with the IPhone 11 I have more than 10 scratches, some deep enough to feel with your finger nail. I really really (really) regret buying this phone. This is not a coincidence anymore with so many people having this same issue.

We've already answered that question several times. You should really read what we posted.

And I don't care if anyone's grammar is correct or not. But commonalities in grammar and word usage between different "users" makes it obvious some of them are fake. Fortunately, most trolls only think they are clever.

But that is besides the point. The evidence that there is NOT a scratching problem with the new iPhones is so overwhelming, you have to be completely blind not to see it. Especially when the evidence is pointed out to you over and over and over.

Have a nice day.

The problem is with advertising. Apple show the phone being dropped, and carried with other items the inference being customers can do the same, when in fact they can’t.

They say “toughest iPhone yet” however customers find previous models are more resilient.

This is on Apple I’m afraid. It’s basic business...under promise and over deliver, and in that they most certainly failed.

If they’d advertised in a different way, focusing on the phones strengths rather than, seemingly, it’s weaknesses, then I believe there would be much fewer complaints now.

Actually, it's NOT. If you are using this thread, which I also agree has some fake posts as your barometer, is misleading. I'm convinced there are people posting legitimate claims their phones are scratched. But I also believe some are not genuine. Coming to this thread is like walking into a hospital filled with sick people and coming to the conclusion there are more sick people walking around than healthy people.

This thread is large for sure. But many of the posts aren't verified and many of the posts are from the same people posting multiple times. If this subject were as widespread as you suggest, there would be multiple major sources saying there is an issue. Only there aren't, including Reddit, which is one of the biggest sources for people to post about iPhone's on. And don't point to the Forbes article. Forbes has been notoriously anti-Apple for a long time. They seem to take odd pleasure is posting about any issue anyone reports on iPhone.

That’s rather conspiratorial. Most likely people are complaining that they’ve a problem with their phone because they believe there is.

There is quite a bit of media reporting on the subject the Sun newspaper being a source. A quick google or search on YouTube you’ll find others.

Anyhow it’s a moot point - the problem is how the phone has been advertised leading to expectations that the product simply can’t live up too.

Honestly, I can’t understand Apple’s strategy with this product - why show it being dropped...There’s so much to say about the product other than how robust it, which is it’s single weakness.

My story? My 11 slipped out of my hand as I picked it up and it completely shattered. It fell no more than 4 inches which in my eyes is sub par given the ads, which I freely admit influenced my decision to buy, show the phone being dropped from greater heights. In insured and am typing this on my replacement so I have no agenda other than to say it’s a great device but anyone with or considering the 11 need to be super careful - treat it like you would a TV and you’ll be fine...treat it like your old iPhone and you might run into trouble. Oh and I do think the advertising is misleading.

That's fine, but two points are important to remember here:

1) Any piece of glass can shatter if it lands just right, usually on a corner, and

2) The glass on the iPhone 11 really is stronger than the glass on any other iPhone before it.

I could post links to the videos again, but I'm sure you've seen them.

Just to add to the 107 pages of this thread that Apple is clearly ignoring.. I have had my 11 Pro for less than a week and I pulled it out of my (empty) pocket yesterday to find a sizable scratch/crack just like others have posted. No keys, no wallet, just the phone... Also as others have stated, I have never had a screen protector on any of my other iPhones (4, 5, 5s), and had my iPhone 7 for 3 years and that got absolutely thrashed and didnt get any deep scratches in the screen, tiny abrasion marks but not to this level.

I think the main reason consumers are up in arms about this is because Apple boasted and flaunted this new device to be stronger than ever, when really, its softer than a bar of soap. Ps. Im in Australia, Im an Apple enthusiast and work in IT by trade. I'm simply disappointed in the quality of this "Pro" device.

Mohs Hardness of Common Objects

fingernail 2 to 2.5

copper 3

nail 4

glass 5.5

knife blade 5 to 6.5

steel file 6.5

streak plate 6.5 to 7

quartz 7

https://geology.com/minerals/mohs-hardness-scale.shtml

Also I find it quite funny how you know the brand and the exact hardness that blade carries. From what you know, he maybe even used a different knife for the iphone 6s video and changed it up. He is a youtuber for Gods sake. ;)

Also a material with hardness of 7 will scratch deeper and easier (with less pressure) a softer glass than a hard one. So while quartz will scratch every screen:

1) it will scratch DEEPER the softer glass than the hard one

2) hard glass can get away without dmg if the pressure is not that strong and soft material is on the other side of it

3) or hard glass will get away with way less dmg than the softer glass that will scratch deep as **** even from the smallest contact without pressure

Facts. The same as how the 7 pick scratches the screen a lot deeper and easier than 6. The bigger difference between the two materials - the bigger the damage is. So that 7 will scratch a lot worse and easier glass that is 5.2 vs glass that is 5.9.
