iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

Older smartphones had more scratch resistant, but more brittle glass.

Since people don't like paying $300 to replace their glass when dropping their phone a foot, cell phone makers overall (not just Apple) moved to formulas that are more shatter-resistant but are slightly more scratch prone.

This issue is solved with a $20 screen protector; you can't apply something for $20 that will stop your screen from shattering in a fall.

I have had an Android since they came out. I just purchased my first iPhone (11 pro max), and was very excited.

Since ownership of two weeks and very careful usage, I have several sets of scratches that are pretty apparent. A few you can catch with your fingernail. This is insane, since I’ve never have had an issue before and with such an expensive product. My phone has had it’s own pocket, where I had my Galaxy with keys and such. To fix something that should be a baseline quality for any smartphone is $349.

Hope Apple listens to the 2,000 plus people who’ve bought their flagship product and have had a similar experience. My company buys over $1,000,000 of Apple products each year Not impressed. Hope proven otherwise

Apple itself hasn't spoken about this issue at all so it can still be a defect - at least for me it is. Their employees so far are just following the company's policy which is to not replace.

Apple sells high-end product, customers pay a premium for them, so I expect a quality product that doesn't scratch with small particles. The older models like 6s and 4 were way more resistant. It's like when people buy a Ferrari, do they put a bumper on it to protect it? Nope. Like an iPhone, many people buy it for its design so why should it be covered with a screen protector after all the money spent? This is the difference between washing your car and sticking something on it. And I don't think cars got scratch so easily by the wind at all by just driving at 15mph.

Maybe Tom is not the best source but there are many others out there voicing the same problem. And the point is that there is an issue with the screen that didn't happen before, and explanation and solution should be provided by Apple.

If you're expecting a statement, it won't be forthcoming, or at least not here.

In the mean time, if Apple is not replacing them, that's an official statement because it's that's Apple's decision.

Local Apple Store reps don't just make the decision to "not replace," an in fact are inclined to replace just to keep customer satisfaction high.

Oh, and when people buy a Ferrari, you'd better believe they have the entire vehicle wrapped in clear bra material to protect it if it's actually going out on the road regularly and isn't just going to be stored in a garage somewhere.

Some don't, but they also know this means regular paint touchups and total repaints.

Actually, I'm seeing the car analogies and the different arguments like this:

People that use screen protectors:

"I installed 3M wrap on my new car's hood/bumper and there's virtually no scratches from sand and rocks being flung from cars driving in front of me."

People that don't:

-"I don't hear/see anything hitting my car, but those scratches and dents from driving normally obviously means there's a defect with the paint job."

-"My new car has been sitting in the garage for a week and out of the blue, there's scratches - must be bad paint."

-"This car is $50,000, it's crazy to spend an extra $200 for car wrap. Also, wrap is salads - not cars. At this price, I expect way better bumpers and paint that don't dent without salad wrap."

And the few outliers:

"My car has a lamp-post shaped dent in the bumper but also scratches and dents around it that look like what other people are writing about. No, I didn't drive into a lamp post - it's pretty clear there's a quality control problem."

This thread is still going strong I see.

I have had my iPhone 11 Pro Max for almost 2 months now, and the first 14 days I spent trying to scratch it with my pocket, keys, salt sprinkled on the table, my finger nails, etc... because of this thread.

To this day I still do not have a single scratch on it.

I don't know what you people are doing to these phones, but mine is no different than any other phone I have ever owned as far as scratching goes.

Same here bcalvanese. 14 weeks without a screen protector, and not a single scratch.

I just upgraded to 4 new iPhone 11 phones. I have always used screen protectors and planned to get some the next day. The rest of my family never used them on their IPhone 8’s and X, the screens were in great condition. Just overnight with the new phones there was a small hairline scratch on two phones!!! They were not put in pockets just transferred info to the new phone. We don’t put the phones face down so I’m not sure how this would happen. The scratch was only noticeable because we were cleaning it to put the screen protectors on the next day after buying them! I could only imagine how bad it would get with regular use!

My first thought was they must be using cheaper glass in the screens as these phones were cheaper than the 8 and X. Then I found out that people with the more expensive pro version were having the same problems!

What a shame Apple would lower the quality on their product that needs to become more durable!

I don’t care how much apple is avoiding and denying the glass screen is just as good.... if not better than the older versions... They have lost my trust. First with the throttling issues... Now this! Once I get these phones payed off, I am definitely going to find a more trustworthy and reliable brand. The whole point of spending sooo much on apple products was for the quality, reliability, how well their products work together and cyber security. They have now ruined two of the four reasons I keep buying apple products.

It will be like ripping off a very sticky band aide as we all have apple watches, iPads, Mac pros, AirPods. Fool me once... shame on you... Fool me twice... shame on me.

Same issue here. I was on vacation and had my phone in my yoga pant at all times and have no idea there’s scratches. It’s happened 3 different times and it’s frustrating.

I had iPhone 6S Plus and had no problem whatsoever. Had that for like 2 plus years no scratches at all.

just bought this phone before Christmas and it’s already scratched.

i have re-think about iPhones next time. Read the reviews.. I guess before you purchase it.

im Realllyyy disappointed in the iPhone 11. I just had it for exactly a week and it already has a scratch on the screen. I can assure you, I didn’t do anything wrong or grazy. It showed up out of nowhere. I noticed the scratch after I put my brand new iPhone 11 out of my pocket. I’m so so Angry! Because I know how well cared I was for my new phone. I hope apple will verify this problem and give us a salution.

Unfortunately that is not the case for my iPhone: sharing absolutely nothing else in my pocket, obviously neither sharp objects nor any debris of any kind...

This seems apparently to be the case also for other users in this forum.

Of course it could well be that this was a batch of defective phones. If this is the case, it would be good if Apple acknowledges this.
