iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

Ive had my brand new 11 pro max barely over 24 hours and my screen has tiny hair like scratches up both sides already. I’ve been gentle with it making sure to not touch any metal on it, only in cloth pockets. No way it should be scratched. This is my first iPhone after having Galaxy phones for approximately 6-7 years. Not happy at all

Thanks for all your posts re: screen protectors (and the thread in general)!! The thread is still, on the whole, completely baffling and bonkers to me, but, it happens EVERY year. Glass is GLASS guys. And, luck is luck (it will run out eventually).

Since day one, zero scratches, but, the peace of mind and not worrying about cleaning my fingers, is priceless haha!! What’s is your wallet? 😆 ... day uno no scratches and now with peace of mind installed!!

I have had my iphone 11 for around 2 weeks, bought gear4 folder case for it on the same day of purchase. I noticed yesterday that the coating on the square camera at the back has begun to wear away. I was initially going to go into apple to complain but I thought I would try apple website (here) and see if any others are having issues.

My last phone was a samsung galaxy s8 and I sold it to a lady in the workplace and there was not a scratch on it, she even commented that it looked brand new. Likewise my iphone 5s, I gave that to a girl in the workplace a few years back and she said exactly the same, it looked brand new out of the box.

I take care of my phones and this is the first time I've ever noticed any sort of scratch/wear of material/cover material on a brand new phone.

very annoyed.

Same experience. Have had the phone for three weeks and today i found that the creditcard in the case have made a scratch on the glass. Contacted Apple about it but their policy is not to repair cosmetic damages, Incredibly dissapointed over this product. I have owned many Iphones but never experienced a more sensitive display.

Within 1 day I had a hairline scratch. It's really thin and I've been babying this phone since I've gotten it.

I had an 8 for 2 years and didn't have an issue like this at all. I have seen this problem a lot on message boards as well.

I went to the apple store saying I just bought this, there are no other scratches on this. They claimed accidental cosmetic damage and they wouldn't do anything about it.

Any ideas what I can do about this?

If you've owned the phone less than 14 days, return it for refund and if you still want the phone, buy it again, but put a screen protector on it, which Apple will install for you. If you've owned the phone longer than 14 days, put a screen protector on it to avoid getting additional scratches.

That's what you can do about it.

You recommend quite a lot that one, but you CAN'T return a damaged product. If they see even the tiniest scratch or dent or anything on the phone - they will and they totally can legally refuse to accept the phone.

Not to mention than apple does not sell iphones only in USA and thus: there are no apple stores in a lot of places nor there is apple care option in a lot of places. Even undamaged and perfect product with all the boxing and accessories is hard to be returned in a lot more places than you thing. And only after you involve institutions and whatnot something happens, sometimes.

Lense scratch will not do that even if it's severe + it will not even change the picture quality in most cases (i.e. if it's not really super severe and thick).

But I can also comment on something else, the screen of my iphone 11 pro max is a dust magnet. Never in my life I owned a phone (and I owned quite a lot high end ones, including iphones) that ends up with so much dust on it all the time. I really find something odd about the screen and it's coating... besides that one the phone is really really good. The thing is - that one is not a small one, the screen is quite important part of the phone (and one of the more expensive ones too).

I hope you understand that not only there is a thing called "batches", but that also there are multiple factories supplying the parts and assembling the phones and in multiple locations/countries? :)

The thing some of you can't understand is that 99% this is a problematic batches of screens and not all the phones. You can imagine what was going to happen if all the new iphones was like the described here, but you should also recognise that 120+ pages this year vs 6 pages for XS (and this one is 120 pages for 2m not for 14m as the XS thread) is not exactly something normal.

My screen came scratched out of the box with light ones next to the power button + it's dust magnet on the screen (and from pockets I clean EVERY TIME I go out with the X jeans + not a single one of all my phones ever had that problem with so much dust on the screen basically every time I pull out the phone) + if I have water on my finger the sound it makes on the screen is just totally different vs every other phone I had including iphones and on top of that it's like glued, super hard or straight not possible to drag it along the screen at all. Hard to describe that one as it's on the extreme, but defo feels wrong.

And no, I don't have apple store so a "genius" (lol, not to offend someone, but most of them can hardly be described as someone who is technically knowledgeable) can check it out. I live in Europe so no such thing here.

You are missing the point. The general concern is that people (myself included) are taking a calculated risk by choosing to not use a screen protector because in general everyday usage, past iphones have held up pretty well. My and i think others concerns is that the 11 glass seems to be much more susceptible to scratching. My 2 month old 11 screen looks worse than my 4 year old 7 that I used screen protectors on an off and ultimately decided that the screen was durable enough without the added thickness.

Dec 11, 2019 10:13 AM in response to valentine256

Nowhere did Apple ever suggest the new phones could not scratch. Yes, the glass is more durable. The Verge article has been posted multiple times here explaining the difference between tough glass and scratch resistance. If you choose to not inform yourself, that's your choice, but it's been explained over and over.

To help you, here it is again --> https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/10/19/17514174/gorilla-glass-scratch-resistance-google-pixel-3-samsung-galaxy-s9-note

Being scratch resistant is not the expectation. The expectation is that my phone doesn’t look like it’s been keyed after simply being placed in my pocket... I’ve had iPhones for the better part of a decade and have never used a screen protector and have never seen this kind of wear and tear so quickly... lesson learned that this screen is too fragile to forgo a screen protector..
