iPhone 11 screen scratches

my wife and me have put our brand new iphones 11 inside our pocket pants and both screens get scratched the second day of use (mines right in the selfie camera, apple says “without mal function”...). Has someone experimented somethg similar? We are really dissapointed, apple only cares if you have bought “apple care”....we cant use the screen without a protection: worst screen ever....👎

The same happened to my iPhone Pro. I just got it yesterday and kept it in a pocket with nothing else. Less than a day later and there's already a scratch. I didn't have this problem with the iPhone X.

From all of the mohs hardness tests I’ve seen, the 11 glass scratches no easier than did the 10, 8, 7, etc. Glass really is glass.

And from my experience and quite a few friends and family, I can corroborate that science (none of us have these mystery scratches that came out of nowhere). I feel for you if you do, it’s just that they happened because something came in contact with your screen that was a level 6 or higher. Luck plays a significant role, too. I’ve had it happen to me way back on my 7, but, I wouldn’t claim it was softer back then.

Sorry that discussion goes into hot. Unlike bots like kpfoley you are real person who take more protection for your devices. You advise also smart enough. But problem is misleading advertisement from Apple and also experience with previous iPhones. I didn’t expect that screen of new iPhone is more scratch-prone.

But also I wouldn’t install screen protector - most likely I won’t buy 11 pro and stay with X while issue won’t be solved. Pretty sure it will be solved in next generation - current screen as bad as iPhone 6

I am truly happy for those that do not have any scratches or put screen protectors. I wished I had the right information from Apple indicating that these phones are very prone to scratches with regular use. Truly regular use in two weeks is enough. It could of course be that the ones here complaining were receiving an unlucky batch of defective products.

Actually at the Apple Store they explained me that for making the glass more resistant to break they are prone to scratch more easily (this when I went to complain, not when I went to buy). So I take this as the official information. Wish this had been advertised, instead of the toughest glass ever on an iPhone.

I didn't accuse anyone directly. Merely suggested it's possible, which of course it is. Please don't put words in my mouth.

And with that, I will take your advice and ignore you.

Have a nice day though.

My "mistake" - you were not disparaging them individually, you were doing so collectively.

I should've followed my own advice because there's no point reasoning with someone with blind loyalty, regardless of the evidence presented against his/her claim. Believe what you want but don't bully or undermine others for their experiences.

My iPhone 11 is less than 3 months old and has scratches which Apple will not cover. I cannot recall anything sharp touching the screen; I have never had to purchase a screen protector for any Apple device in the past but I will need one for this phone —- to prevent any more scratches from occurring. My old iPhone 6 is still working and the screen is in perfect condition after many years of use. Apple’s only offer was to replace the screen for $200 —- with the exact same very fragile screen! Apple, please listen to your users and do something about this flaw.

Posting here just to document my issue along with everyone else.

I purchased the iPhone 11 at the Apple Store at the end of October, the day after it was released here in South Korea.

After just 2 weeks of use I noticed there were significant small scratches all over the display and remember simply thinking "it seems like this screen scratches a lot easier than my previous iPhones, this sucks..." but I am not that picky about minor scratches and they were not affecting my view of the screen so I let it slide.

Fast forward a couple more weeks, I start to notice more significant and slightly deeper scratching around the edges of the screen. I'm starting to think this is really strange because I treat this phone exactly the same as I treated my 7, down to wearing the same clothes so it was in the same pockets, etc.

Now, yesterday, I take my phone out of my pocket and am shocked as I see two huge, deep scratches running smack dab down the middle of the screen. They make a rainbow pattern and therefore affect my view of the screen. How they got there I honestly cannot explain. I always keep the phone in a pocket on its own and even if there was some sand/debris in my pocket there is no way it could have made that deep of a scratch in that location of the screen.

I always use cases on my iPhones but have never once used a screen protector since I have always found iPhone screens to be especially robust. My iPhone 7 never had a protector during the 4 years I used it and it looks better than my 11 currently does. Also, I work at a video game company and I have countless test phones I use and abuse constantly: right now I have a Galaxy Note 8, an iPhone XS, and a Galaxy 7... all of them, despite having been used heavily and tossed into my desk drawer constantly, are not scratched.

I even googled this in Korean and saw that this issue has also been documented in the South Korean media.

I'm going to visit the Apple Store on the weekend and see if they are willing to do anything about my screen. I'll update if I have any success...

OMG! I have the same thing. This morning I woke up and saw it and I freaked out! I don't know how this could have happened because I always watch where i put my phone in order to avoid this and now bam. I'm mortified! It's only 2 months old and my previous one that I had for ages doesn't have a scratch on it! I pride myself in that. This is a real problem guys. What to do?

"Don't hate me because my iPhone 11 Pro is beautiful!

(18 weeks without a screen protector, and zero scratches.)"

I don't hate you, I just feel like you may not be entirely truthful here. You claim to have examined your screen with an electron microscope and found no scratches even with that, which is virtually impossible even if your screen is completely scratch free to the naked eye. Once again, seeing is believing, share this allegedly perfect screen and pictures taken with the electron microscope and I might just believe you.

(By the way, my _new_ screen installed free of charge by Apple is also scratch free. That is, using a screen protector which you claim not to use.)
