iOS 13 Apple Music and BMW's iDrive problems

It’s almost all car makers with people reporting issues that DO NOT USE car play. Changing basic functionality of basic commands such as play next track is pretty dumbfounded. It’s not just BMW. It’s Audi, Porsche, Mercedes, Voltzwagon, and a lot of American manufactures. My wife’s GMC is broken when you do not use car play and use cars system. It’s one year old. Apple release buggy, not ready for the market software and it reflects there current leadership, or lack thereof.

I won’t call that a ‘fix’ using a 3rd party app to skip a song on my own playlist in my own car. Anyway sounds like we all found our own solutions to the silliness caused by Apple.

It amazes me that they didn’t see it during testing phase. I assume they only tested on 19 cars with Car Play and thought everything worked.

Starting a playlist in Miximum is great! I've had to open Apple Music at the start of my drive thanks to whatever iOS version when it started playing my first song alphabetically each time. So this app is free, imported all my existing playlists, and goes straight to the screen where I choose a playlist. Best of all, I can hard close the app and my built-in car controls (steering wheel and song selection menu) now work again.

This is definitely a workaround, so Apple's in no way off the hook for their horrible software quality, but this will tide me over until they actually fix it.

Actually I got a Mini Cooper 2018 and a X5 2019, both of them has the last vertion of the software, in iOS 13 everything was perfect all this issue started in 13.1 in trying with many iPhones 8plus, X, Xs and 11 pro and still not working, i think that the iPhone from your friend still working with iOS 12, iPhone 6 I can’t upgrade iOS 13 .

I wouldn't bother from what others had said they will blame it on the case that you have on your phone, the car manufacturer. Anything but admit they have dropped the ball on this iOS SW update.

I am just living with the fact for now that I have to use the button on the stereo facia to skip tracks if I want to.

On my 2016 Hyundai Sonata if I use Bluetooth Audio my steering wheel toggle works again. However, the moment I plug it in to USB and my stereo takes over I lose it again. This basically means I can’t charge my phone in the car or get cover art if I want to skip

tracks.

Apple needs to fully fix this.

I just installed it on my iPhone X, iOS 13.2 Beta 3. Just tested it in my BMW 2018 218i AT. Not fixed for me. Albums work. Playlist not. But it does not work with the workaround with Apple watch either. So, it might be an other problem. Can someone else test it?

Mine’s a BMW 530d 2016 model.

I’m in the UK and I have exactly the same issue. Can’t select tracks from playlist and track selection rendered useless on steering wheel.

this occurred after 13.1.1 IOS update.

Is there a simple method to update to 13.2 beta3 and going back later to regular ios.

Can i update now, then make a backup of the phone on 13.2 beta 3 and later revert back to regular 13.2 and restore ?

thanks for advice. This is extremely annoying and makes so much additional work to get a functionality back which is basic for a mp3 music player and which is a crucial element of an apple music subscription i pay for. I can’t express how much this p isses me.

I too can confirm that iOS 13.2 beta 3 does address the issue with being unable to switch tracks in a playlist when using a car's audio system.

This hopefully means that the final 13.2 will still retain this fix, we'll need to check with the next beta / final release of 13.2 to ensure it's still fixed.

Would I upgrade to the 13.2 beta? For a personal, daily use phone, just for this fix? No I would not. It's a beta, and thus there will be other issues there, which could more significantly impact your use of your device.

If you *really* want to fix it right now, then I believe you can sign up for the public beta of iOS. I *think* it's probably similar to how it works for developers, you install a profile and that'll grant you access to the beta, and then you simply go into software update and upgrade. That's at least how the dev install works for me. I would a) back up the device fully, and b) strongly advise against installing a beta.

As for downgrading, it looks like you remove the profile and then have to restore the phone back to whatever the latest iOS version that is available, so that'd be 13.1.3. It does mean a full restore, so you may need to reconfigure a few things if the backup didn't, well, backup everything.

Thanks to all who have contacted Apple, despite the frustration from their support team. I'm pretty sure they have heard us loud and clear as it seems that the issue is fixed in iOS 13.2 Beta 3 according to those who have tested it. Let's all hope that this fix gets through to the final release.

For me, as long as it will be fixed, I'm happy to wait for an official release. Really appreciated your efforts.

You can’t restore a backup of 13.2 on 13.1.3 but you could restore a backup of 13.2 Beta 3 on official release as long the build version is higher then the backup.

Anyway, you shall continue all betas (4,5,6) until GM / Final release and the simply delete the profile from your mobile.

I experienced the same problem with my Honda Civic (2012) since iOS 13.1

My iPhone is wired through usb and I can’t skip tracks with my personal playlist. With an Apple Music playlist, It works and I can change tracks with the steering wheel but with my own playlists, it doesn’t work at all. It changes something during one or two seconds on the screen but doesn’t charge the next or previous song and it returns on the current song.

i hope they will fix it.

Finally, after months of waiting 13.2 beta 3 has fixed it. Just tested it! Miximum no longer needed. Whoop whoop! I colleague that I work with has a cousin of his that works as a dev in cupertino and and he managed to push this fix through! Shout out to him for expediting it!

I was told to keep auto updates off LOL!
