Change the voice. The Uh-Huh seems to be associated with the South American Female voice option.

For instance the American Male has proper, respectful, intelligent sounding replies. I’m sure others do as well, you’d just have to try out different ones.

Or just don't wait between "Hey, Siri" and your question. Siri only says that if you pause. So, no pause, no uh-huh.

That really seems like thje best solution; some Siri preferences where you could select what response you want from Siri . . .

. . . maybe ""uhhuh" for those who want their $1000 MacBook Air to talk to them that way or "Yes" or "what can I do for you today" or even just the pleasant tone that Siri plays on my iPhone to let me know Siri is listening.

Breaking News! I just went to my MacBook preferences for Siri and changed the voice from American female to British female and now when I say "Hey Siri" Siri no longer says "uhhuh" but just emits the same pleasant tone that my iPhone makes

to let me know that Siri is listening and ready to respond! Problem solved! If you don't like "uhhuh", change Siri voice to British female, maybe even Australian.

I’ve posted before how to avoid Siri saying “uh huh”; just don’t pause after saying Hey Siri, such as “Hey Siri, what is tomorrow’s weather”.

And think about what you are asking when you say “Hey Siri” and don’t say anything else. Suppose you said “Hey Bob” to a friend, then didn’t say anything else. It’s likely that Bob would say “Uh Huh” or something similar (or perhaps something ruder).

Hello ~ This is not a solution as I just tested and it does the same exact thing if you pause! If you say “Hey Siri” and pause Siri still says “Hmmmm” or “Uh Huh” just with a different accent. The key is to say “Hey Siri what time is it?” Siri performs my request without saying anything except the time of day. Pretty simple.

Hello ~ It works fine once you understand how to use it. Also Apple does not participate here in the way you may think . This is a user to user forum for us to help each other with questions and concerns about all things Apple and in order for Apple to know that you are displeased you need to let them know through the appropriate channel …which is the link below:

I myself don’t need a personal relationship with “Siri” I just need the information and convenience that can be gathered and provided. When the response from “Siri “ changed I didn’t like it either until * IdrisSeabright * here in this thread and very graciously explained about not pausing between “Hey Siri” and my request. Now…I don’t pause and I also don’t hear “Hhhhmmmm.” It is a pretty straight forward and easily solved issue.

i find the uh huh response annoying as well. I switched from the American voices to the British and Australian and got the same response. I hope Apple returns to a “yes” response.

Then you should tell them you'd like to see that:

Meanwhile, you can avoid hearing "uh huh" if you don't pause between "Hey, Siri....." and the rest of your question.

The solution is that Siri no longer needs you to pause after saying, “Hey Siri.” If you do, her/his verbal response is a cue for you to go on. It’s kind of casual which I see some people don’t like (though so is “hey Siri” as a statement).

As far as a fix goes, just say what you want, like “hey Siri, how’s the weather?” Or just “hey Siri weather” instead of pausing.

or add a way to keep her listening longer, or add a switch, for attitude,(Snarky or Polite and Professional) pause to swallow and you have to do it again, The best thing is what was suggested a while back, break your self of the social graces by waiting for the response before asking. It's "Hey Siri, what time is it". Not "Hey Siri",(pause for reply), "What time is it"

If you are all that worried about "social graces", you ought to be up in arms about "Hey, Siri". As my sister-in-law used to put it, "Hay is for horses". So, perhaps Siri is just annoyed at being addressed so rudely. You might want to take that up with Apple, too.

There is nothing remotely rude, though, about addressing someone by name and following immediately with a question, "Joan, what time is it?"

I will have to apologize for being rude when I felt I was being rude too. But after thinking about Siri’s response I remembered that the old Siri aloud one to change Siri’s response. But it doesn’t work in the new edition. I am hoping they will correct this in the future. I’m hoping to hear of a solution. I did post a response to Apple but don’t expect a response.

The reason that Siri use to need you to wait after saying "Hey, Siri" was because the processor on the phone wasn't powerful enough to wake up and respond all at once. Now it is.

All you could do in the past was turn on or off the beep.

Don't leave a gap between "Hey, Siri..." and your request and you never have to hear the offending word again.

Apple, please change Siri’s response when you ‘call’ her initially. The current ‘uh huh’ is super disrespectful. It would be nice to have an option to change this.

Apple is not reading here for suggestions. You can tell Apple what you want here:

However, until such time as Apple decides they agree with you, you can avoid hearing "uh huh" by using "Hey Siri..." the way Apple has currently designed it. We all learned to say "Hey, Siri..." and then wait. The newer, faster phones don't require that pause. If you just say, "Hey, Siri, what time is it?" at a normal pace, all you'll get is the answer to your questions with no "uh huh". Or not. It's entirely up to you.
