iphone 11 pro max crashing

Since 10/2/19 i have encounter a bug where my iphone 11 pro max is crashing. The phone will randomly shut down and restart it self. I could be watching youtube or doing anything on any app and the phone will shut down and restart, even on full charge. At one instance it did that multiple times in a row. Every time it would restart i would add my passcode and get on home screen and it would crash again. It just did that today too. I am currently on the latest update 13.1.2. Anybody else have the same problem?

I just rec’d a new iPhone 11 Pro Max 2 days ago. After charging (came with zero charge) and backing up from ICloud, it began to just shut down. I’d put the phone down and pick it up to a black screen. Would have to press the button and apple logo would appear and password due to restart was required. Went through apple support and after HOURs of effort including updating iTunes, and doing the update through iTunes, the problem persisted. I was told it must be SW related and it was suggested I set up as a new phone. Reluctantly I tried this and after about 7-8 hours where I slowly MANUALLY reset up and configured my phone , linked to my watch etc the problem resurfaced. The same exact issue and sometimes it would even turn itself on when I picked up the phone (no button press). So off to the apple store I went where the analytics showed multiple “panic” logs. They confirmed it was HW then and provided me a replacement for my 2 day old phone. Apparently the guy had never seen this on this phone but this thread has me wondering. So for those of you with this same issue - it’s not your case. It’s not your SW. And it’s not from copying the image from your old phone. Check the analytics log and look for files that say panic... apparently just a couple is not an issue but if there are several.... red flag. Problem will not just resolve itself.

This appears to be an Application issue. I upgraded from an iPhone 6 to the 11 Pro. Given the limited iPhone 6 memory I had managed my apps carefully, however this was not the case on my iPad

When I sync'd the new 11, the iPhone versions of some iPad software where load.

Now I've completely removed those and the restart problem has disappeared. I'm guessing within that set of apps something was incompatible with the latest 13.x.x. code

Anyway phone is now stable.

Three comments:

Your current phone will not work correctly.

This phone is awesome.

By far the easiest thing to do is to forget working with apple or your phone companies support and just return the phone for a full refund within your fifteen day time limit. Then buy another new one. I did it in 30 minutes after spending four days and countless hours talking and working with support.

Actually I blamed the Otterbox case from Apple and wrote a bad review of it. Then I took it out of the case and had it sitting on my desk at work and it restarted at least every hour.

Have to go back and retract my otterbox review on the apple website.

Since this was a restore from an iphone 6s on itunes on my pc, there are a million apps.

The proper thing would be to erase this phone and set it up as a new phone and then add apps (like the tide and astronomy apps not in daily use) only as needed. I am too lazy for that.

Had my first iPhone 11 pro crash today! 1-2h ago!

Was using and listening to music trough Apple Music with my new JayBird Vista, I put down my phone, took out my Vista’s and put them in the charging case which disconnects them from the iPhone and turns them off.

iPhone laid on the table idle for some time with Apple Music, and most probably only Apple Music running in the background because I have a habit of “swiping” away every app to close them. (Music was automatically paused.. Or at least it should have been, right?)

after 5? Minutes or so I grabbed the 11 pro, tried to turn on the screen but everything was black, except the lock-screen version of apple music with the play/pause etc buttons and everything showing! But without battery, cellular,, even the “swipe” Line on the bottom of the screen (in portrait) also the outlines “square” was not even showing. And, my green animated Live Photo (stock) backgroundwas gone..

And the funny thing was when I tried to press the power/wake button again the screen just Dimmed about 5% for each press Until it shut off, and the circle continued.

quite funny actually lol, but inconvenient!

I also got a VPN app (not the, “Free” type. At all..) Always running in the background/system But without Background data activated for that app, and 99% of the rest.. Because how cool is it that your data gets encrypted and sent near light speed to whatever country you choose, pop up and then get sent back even faster! 😎 (and you’re safe on public wifi without risking getting your passwords grabbed.. just an FYI)

(now you can recreate it apple!)

I then hold down power and volume up and after 10? Seconds the apple logo showed (in white, because oled. Ahh)

I am 100% certain that this is a software bug, and not the processor going all quantum and teleporting the electrons over into the wrong Lane/transistor and crashing the phone lol.

Similar stuff happened when I got the 8 plus, around New Years 2017/2018, It was my first iPhone ever and it happened once, then a iOS update came out and it didn’t happen again..

This will probably be an easy fix for Apple! So I wouldn’t worry about it.

How ever, If you cannot restart your device (any device) it’s more likely a hardware fault imo. So just keep holding the power and volume (faceID devices) Until the iPhone restarts and you will most likely not experience it again after it restarts.

Seems to be “quirky” circumstances 😁

But if it happens again I will probably make my own post here about it!

Everyone on this thread has been very helpful and courteous. Thanks!

I contacted Verizon and I was expecting a few hours of repeating the moves that we have already done but the dude just looked at the performance history of the phone and saw immediately that it is restarting constantly.

I will get the new one (not refurbished) delivered tomorrow. Much easier than I thought that it would be.

(Here is another peculiarity. I initially migrated to the 11 Pro Max using itunes. But when I went to back up the 11 Pro Max to itunes it wouldn't work and I had to do wireless backup to my icloud. Bad RAM would definitely cause the restarts but these other behaviors are different.)

Hey, I found a way to fix this(for me at least). When I first got my iPhone 11 Pro Max, I heard there was good ram management so I never closed the apps (in the app switcher). I got my phone a couple months ago and my phone kept crashing daily. Last week, I just got the idea to close all apps when I leave it and ever since then, my phone hasn’t crashed once. I’m not sure if this is actually a solution but it’s worth a shot.

Mine did it right out of the box. Before I even did my iCloud back up. Thought maybe I needed software update. That didn’t help. I don’t keep but a few pictures on my phone & my music from amazon. That’s it. Mine still has random restarts. Im waiting for a replacement phone right now as the green pro max is on back order. It has to be the phone because my 10 X Max didn’t do this prior to this phone. I’m guessing it’s a Ram issue.
