Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?

Ever since the iOS 13 update, whenever I plug in my headphones to make a call my Music app automatically starts playing music. How do I get it to stop?

Ive installed the bug fix update and I’ve even turned off all settings for the Music app and unchecked all the music folders in the app. I’ve tried everything.

It’s really annoying. Any ideas? Can’t find anyone else experiencing this.

It's Autoplay and based on all the forums I read, no one can figure out how to turn it off. Autoplay was supposed to be a thing Apple thought people wanted, but it's really annoying if there is no option to turn it off. I had to turn off my bluetooth completely, and just use speakerphone for car directions and phone calls.

So far, the only 'work around' is to add a "silent track"of music play next on your Apple Music, or like me, turn off bluetooth completely. Click here for article and link: https://www.engadget.com/2017/08/10/silent-10-minute-song-itunes-car-stereo-trick/

Solution: If all of us speak up, Apple will fix the problem. Go to Apple Feedback link and request a fix by allowing us to turn OFF autoplay. (This is the direct link to request a fix from Apple.). Apple really does listen!

I think it has to do with the Up Next icon. When your music is playing turn off the infinity loop ♾ which is actually the icon for auto play. My music and voice calls etc. we’re fine until I was fiddling with these icons and inadvertently left this one ON. That’s when the trouble started. All conflicts solved once I turned this icon OFF. Good luck everyone.

This is not a solution but a work around. I have this issue too because I have to use my phone to take calls for work and I need my headset plugged in. I can't find anything, like everyone else, to turn off. However, one work around is to turn off your screen lock. This is under Display&Brightness > Auto-Lock and then select Never. Pro for this is that the music doesn't start playing, *** is this drains your battery much faster. For me on my iPhone 8 Plus, it gets down to around 50% after an 8 hour day.

This needs to be fixed. There should be an option to allow users to disable music auto-start when headsets are plugged in.

Hey Guys, I suspected the cause of my difficulties may have been related to a worn out connection in the headphone jack adapter and specifically with the lightning connector. I finally got around to replacing it. With the replacement adapter I've been listening listening all day with no problems. When I switched back to the older adapter and wiggled the lightning connector even slightly the audio speeds up, skips, starts IMusic, etc.

Fingers crossed. Clean fingers due to the coronavirus pandemic of course. Stay healthy!

What I and several other people have found to be effective is the following:

Uninstall music app.

Some people get mad about the solution. I understand that. I did not want to uninstall the music app but it came down to a safety issue. It was a safety issue to have music begin playing automatically when I’m doing something that requires focus for my safety. So I was required to uninstall the music app to prevent that from happening.

Unfortunately, that’s the best solution.

I’m still looking for music application that I can play my own music files on and connect to my car and other devices as well.

I asked this question today and was given these instructions. It fixed the issue that has been driving me nuts for weeks!

1 Start the Settings app.

2 Tap "Accessibility."

3 Tap "Motion."

4 On the Motion page, turn off "Auto-Play Video Previews" by swiping the button to the left.

5 Start the Settings app.

6 Tap "iTunes & App Store."

7 Tap "Video Autoplay."

8 Tap "Off."
