Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?

Ever since the iOS 13 update, whenever I plug in my headphones to make a call my Music app automatically starts playing music. How do I get it to stop?

Ive installed the bug fix update and I’ve even turned off all settings for the Music app and unchecked all the music folders in the app. I’ve tried everything.

It’s really annoying. Any ideas? Can’t find anyone else experiencing this.

I just want to make some points for Apple to understand how deeply frustrating this problem is for all of us:

  • For each time I plug in my earbuds to prepare for a call, music starts up
  • Upsettingly, sometimes this happens just as I'm about to dial a number
  • Car use is the worst, driving down the road, getting ready to make a call is a terrible distraction
  • Keep in mind, this is a SAFETY issue too (that's why I'm using earbuds)
  • Yes, it is a SAFETY problem
  • Only times I plug in earbuds will be to make calls or listen to music, admittedly
  • Understandably, we all recognize the problem, Apple, why can't you?
  • All of the time, this is how frequently it happens - ALL OF THE TIME
  • Possibly this is a convenience feature, but it is really an "inconvenience" issue too!
  • Please fix this APPLE!
  • Let's all make as much noise as we can about this!
  • Ending this problem would make me very happy

That's all I have to say in making my points. Does everyone get these points?

Same problem, but it happens with any speaker connection. I get into the car, and Carplay starts as soon as bluetooth connects to the phone. I put on my headphones and music starts. Etc., etc. It's particularly frustrating with the music because the app doesn't appear as open, so I have to search it out and close it manually. Who at Apple had the great idea of, "Hey, as soon as someone connects to anything, let's just turn on some app!" At least give us the option of turning this feature off.

Honestly Apple, how bad of a company can you BE?!

This has been going on for YEARS and still no fix, not even a response!

plug in headphones, music auto blows your head off!. Get in the car, Bluetooth connects, Blammo!

Why is this still going on?! For god’s sake, put a dev team on this and rewrite Apple Music from scratch if you have to, because this just ridiculous.

I think it has to do with the Up Next icon. When your music is playing turn off the infinity loop ♾ which is actually the icon for auto play. My music and voice calls etc. we’re fine until I was fiddling with these icons and inadvertently left this one ON. That’s when the trouble started. All conflicts solved once I turned this icon OFF. Good luck everyone.

What is even STRANGER than this, is the fact it’s been going on for a decade or more and Apple ignores it like it doesn’t exist. That’s the strange part. Absolutely zero fix for a dozen years. iOS after new iOS after update after update… They have no idea why it’s happening, they have no idea how to fix it, they have no intention of EVER fixing it.

It’s a bug deep in the code from some looong ago version in some looooong ago function library, and fixing it might mean breaking a hundred other things that depend on those libraries to function. They just don’t care enough to invest in it.

Heres the ONLY known way to fix it:

Create or download a 30 second track of silence. EVERY time you are done with the music app, play then pause that track. Now, when it auto plays, you’ll get that instead of an eardrum breaking blast from some other song. It’ll still interrupt you, but at least your hearing remains intact.

Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?
