Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?

Ever since the iOS 13 update, whenever I plug in my headphones to make a call my Music app automatically starts playing music. How do I get it to stop?

Ive installed the bug fix update and I’ve even turned off all settings for the Music app and unchecked all the music folders in the app. I’ve tried everything.

It’s really annoying. Any ideas? Can’t find anyone else experiencing this.

I just want to make some points for Apple to understand how deeply frustrating this problem is for all of us:

  • For each time I plug in my earbuds to prepare for a call, music starts up
  • Upsettingly, sometimes this happens just as I'm about to dial a number
  • Car use is the worst, driving down the road, getting ready to make a call is a terrible distraction
  • Keep in mind, this is a SAFETY issue too (that's why I'm using earbuds)
  • Yes, it is a SAFETY problem
  • Only times I plug in earbuds will be to make calls or listen to music, admittedly
  • Understandably, we all recognize the problem, Apple, why can't you?
  • All of the time, this is how frequently it happens - ALL OF THE TIME
  • Possibly this is a convenience feature, but it is really an "inconvenience" issue too!
  • Please fix this APPLE!
  • Let's all make as much noise as we can about this!
  • Ending this problem would make me very happy

That's all I have to say in making my points. Does everyone get these points?

Even more annoyingly, while on Duolingo wearing wireless headphones (non ios), the music app opens and starts playing music over the top of my Spanish lesson audio! I even tried deleting Music app from my ipad as never listen to music on it and it just reopens all by itself, even though i have deleted the icon from the screen?! I am about to cancel my Music subscription over it!

I have just bought Bluetooth headphones and have been having the same issue, it's very frustrating. As I don't use Apple Music much I simply offloaded the app in Storage. Seems to have solved the problem. BUT: the headphones will default to the last thing you listened to, whatever or wherever it was. This is a BIG BUG for such expensive phones....

Bro this is happening to me. My charging port is iffy so it unplugs a lot so everytime it comes loose it just starts playing music but I don’t want it too lol. I’ve turned car play off and every other option I can think of but this trash company will design **** specifically for us to upgrade. Why do you think the new iPhones have so many accessories? So ready to switch from this **** device.

Apple, I find it interesting that there are so many people who are vocalizing their dissatisfaction with the auto play feature on their devices, and yet there is silence on your part concerning this issue. There are 22 pages of comments complaining about this and no response from apple. This silence is insulting to your customers. The users of your products are of the opinion that you don’t care in the least about their issue. You know about it. You just don’t care. You should be embarrassed. If I was to be inappropriate in my comments, there would be someone swooping in to censor them… Obviously apple is watching or that would not be the case. So, Apple, will you post in this thread a response? Or, will you continue to ignore this issue? My money is there will not be any input in this thread from Apple. Yes, many other people are having the same issue, yes Apple knows, yes you cannot work around it, Yes Apple doesn’t care about your frustrations. Apple thinks you should just be thankful for your broken phone.

Every time I start my car, I tunes just starts playing automatically. I’ve turned off everything in settings and it stills does this. It annoys my life. I’m trying to drive and simultaneously turn it off. Not safe Apple. Get it together! It looks like thousands of people with iPhone13 has this issue. Honestly I also had this issue with my iPhone 11 and it annoyed me to the point that I deleted the music app. Shame cause I like the app. I won’t be making any music purchases as I will be getting rid of my membership and the app once more. Why pay for annoyance? I know I’m not the only one who has done this. I never have this issue with YouTube Music. You’re messing up you’re own money by not fixing this.

I’ve come to the conclusion that we as consumers see this issue as a bug; but I’m convinced the apple developers are considering this some kind of “feature”. It’s been a well documented complaint for literally years, and apple has never attempted a “fix”; likely because they don’t see it as broken. It forces us to utilize some of their apps, so they are happy.

apple as a company has become nothing more than a steaming pile of garbage. Their ability to innovate and create is long dead. The last 3 iPhones have all been exact copies of each other, with changes so minor they may as well be calling the iPhone 13 the iPhone 11.3

I’m going to light $1000 on fire to pay this device payment off; then I’m switching back to android and never looking back.

goodbye apple;

(yes apple is purposely not capitalized. They don’t deserve capitalization anymore, their annoying forum attempts to force the capitalization, but I went back and fixed it.)

Until I stumbled onto this chain, I didn’t realize it was a bug. I simply assumed Music was supposed to start when I start my car, or plug it into a rental car usb. The odd thing to me is that music starts without Music being on. So I have to turn Music on to turn Music off. Annoying is a polite word for this sometimes dangerous driving distraction.

Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?
