Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?

Ever since the iOS 13 update, whenever I plug in my headphones to make a call my Music app automatically starts playing music. How do I get it to stop?

Ive installed the bug fix update and I’ve even turned off all settings for the Music app and unchecked all the music folders in the app. I’ve tried everything.

It’s really annoying. Any ideas? Can’t find anyone else experiencing this.

I just want to make some points for Apple to understand how deeply frustrating this problem is for all of us:

  • For each time I plug in my earbuds to prepare for a call, music starts up
  • Upsettingly, sometimes this happens just as I'm about to dial a number
  • Car use is the worst, driving down the road, getting ready to make a call is a terrible distraction
  • Keep in mind, this is a SAFETY issue too (that's why I'm using earbuds)
  • Yes, it is a SAFETY problem
  • Only times I plug in earbuds will be to make calls or listen to music, admittedly
  • Understandably, we all recognize the problem, Apple, why can't you?
  • All of the time, this is how frequently it happens - ALL OF THE TIME
  • Possibly this is a convenience feature, but it is really an "inconvenience" issue too!
  • Please fix this APPLE!
  • Let's all make as much noise as we can about this!
  • Ending this problem would make me very happy

That's all I have to say in making my points. Does everyone get these points?

Man....

There was a point when I considered the same thing. I’ve got sooooo much time and music invested in iTunes tho. I can say that since I’ve did away with my wired earbuds I haven’t had it happen to me at all and I’ve been dealing with that bs just as long as everyone else. Scooped me a set of beats headphones and haven't had any issues since. I’m sure any Bluetooth joints’ll do the same. Did for me. Thank goodness. Good luck errrybody. As for apple....you nerds should be ashamed of y’all selves.

Print that. Facts.

Game.....

Blouses.

I wish that wireless had fixed it for me but I actually have more issues with the wireless connection than any other. I use my phone and wireless headset for work and I'll end a conference call and then (bam!) there is U2 playing in my headset. This iPhone is issued by my employer and does not have ANY personal music on it. The only music is the Apple standard U2 album...which by the way isn't even downloaded - it plays instantly from the cloud.

I recently had a call with an Apple support person who was very nice but told me that according to the Apple knowledge base this is "expected behavior". ***? Thanks Apple for choosing to annoy me regularly by taking up my time to open the Music app (that isn't open already) just to close it in order to kill music I didn't start or want to listen to in the first place. She did instruct me to go into the Music app and uncheck all the options then restart my phone. ...still happens so don't waste your time. The only other option is to uninstall the Music app - but if you actually do use it then that really isn't an option.

That ***** bruh. Don’t know if this will make any difference at all. But my roomate had the same problem as all of us but didn’t wanna fork over the money for the same joints I got. His were only like $30 on Amazon and he has no issues anymore either. They sound good too. Honestly kinda blown I spent all that $$$ on the beats. His are MPOW H7 headphones. They’re nice too. Good bass. Plus you can talk on your phone with’em too. Good luck y’all.

I had already done that. There was nothing showing in my Music app in any of the playlists. I finally just ended up removing the whole Music app from the phone. Hasn't happened since then. It's just really stupid of Apple to not get this issue resolved when there are so many complaints about how it works (as dysfunctional as it works). Thanks!

How can this be, that there are more then 700 people complaining about it and still no fix? I thought I pressed my headphones buttons or something, but since I don’t listen music on iPad, it made no sense. Here I see hundreds with the same issue.

So, Apple, yes! It’s still there and it’s completely ridiculous. Can you please do something? If you can’t do a fix for whatever reason, can you suggest a workaround?

Hey Guys, I suspected the cause of my difficulties may have been related to a worn out connection in the headphone jack adapter and specifically with the lightning connector. I finally got around to replacing it. With the replacement adapter I've been listening listening all day with no problems. When I switched back to the older adapter and wiggled the lightning connector even slightly the audio speeds up, skips, starts IMusic, etc.

Fingers crossed. Clean fingers due to the coronavirus pandemic of course. Stay healthy!

Still no word or fix from Apple? Terribly disappointing. This is an incredible annoyance.

Many times when I end a call on my BT Headset, or sometimes my wired earbuds, Apple Music "launches" plays the first song in my playlist, actually the first song just starts playing w/o launching the actual app. iPhone 11, iOS updated...

I did find something that works most of the time. Installed Amazon Music, launch it w/o playing a song, keep it in the background. It seems to both stop the song playing on Apple Music and preventing auto launch as long as it's open in the background. Would appreciate others trying this and commenting....

For those of us who’ve been following this issue for weeks/months, I should say that mine isn’t about music playing.

I listen to a lot of podcasts (mostly at night in bed) and as soon as I plug the headphones in, the app often starts playing where it left off. Sometimes the podcast skips to next one or even starts repeating without me having hadn’t touched my iPhone. I thought it was the headphones at first, but, same thing’s happening with this set.

It is disappointing that no one at Apple seems to be acknowledging this problem :-(

I’ve been on the sidelines saying nothing, while monitoring this discussion. Since I discovered others were having the same problem & we were getting no resolution from Apple I figured I’d chime in & pile on with formal complaint in concert with all of you. I’ve searched and searched and have not been able to find a solution. I’ve been hoping those of you who are less cyber challenged than I would find a solution. I have other issues with the Apple products, the most annoying being duplicated contacts. Even after spending untold hours calling support didn’t help. This problem at least has a mitigating solution. I use one suggested early on in the discussion-annoying, but it temporarily works-go to the music icon and turn off the song. BTW, my contacts started at ~800, grew by duplication to 2,300 & are now standing at 9,300+. Rather than being named after a fruit, Apple should change their name to rabbit?

i have been sitting on the sidelines here and just observing. What I did to make my life easier is to to do away with Apple Music app. I use google play now. Much easier to load music, it does start automatically. I can load music without having to plug my devices into my MacBook, then google through the hassle of moving music over to each device. Google play on each device. Upload it using there app. Boom it’s there on any device. No plugging in phone. And I use Spotify.

apple makes great products, but a lot of times. It’s a P.I.A. when you need to do things.

Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?
