Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?

Ever since the iOS 13 update, whenever I plug in my headphones to make a call my Music app automatically starts playing music. How do I get it to stop?

Ive installed the bug fix update and I’ve even turned off all settings for the Music app and unchecked all the music folders in the app. I’ve tried everything.

It’s really annoying. Any ideas? Can’t find anyone else experiencing this.

I just want to make some points for Apple to understand how deeply frustrating this problem is for all of us:

  • For each time I plug in my earbuds to prepare for a call, music starts up
  • Upsettingly, sometimes this happens just as I'm about to dial a number
  • Car use is the worst, driving down the road, getting ready to make a call is a terrible distraction
  • Keep in mind, this is a SAFETY issue too (that's why I'm using earbuds)
  • Yes, it is a SAFETY problem
  • Only times I plug in earbuds will be to make calls or listen to music, admittedly
  • Understandably, we all recognize the problem, Apple, why can't you?
  • All of the time, this is how frequently it happens - ALL OF THE TIME
  • Possibly this is a convenience feature, but it is really an "inconvenience" issue too!
  • Please fix this APPLE!
  • Let's all make as much noise as we can about this!
  • Ending this problem would make me very happy

That's all I have to say in making my points. Does everyone get these points?

I am stunned that I’ve been struggling with this for months and find this thread and Apple still hasn’t fixed it ! It DRIVES ME CRAZY that every time I get in the car, the music starts. I turned off the auto play. I closed Apple Music. And as everyone says, it just defaults to playing Spotify. Is there any social media that Apple cares about its customers complaints? I don’t think they look at twitter or Facebook. Any other way to get their attention?

I have same problem some what. I have iPhone 7+ 13.3. I use phone in car to listen to music, podcast, etc... It auto magically connects to my car bluetooth. which is cool. I can make phone calls. But what drives me nuts is that Apple Music auto magically starts. I have read to go to cellular>music turn it off. That don't work. I turn off the apply by swiping up, but then it comes back on, I tell Siri to stop it. that last a couple seconds. Driving me nuts. It will stop if I delete the app. But if I plug the phone not MacBook Air. then it cant sync bc the app is gone.

Spotify, podcast. I have no proble, I just turn off cellular. And in spotify setting there is a toggle/switch to turn off autostart.

I don't apple will look into this. I don't think this isa major concern for them. I have called apple, my stereo UCONNECT #. each one says its the problem from each other. SMH.

Since it happens on my dodge uconnect, my GMC Radio and my wife’s Honda radio... it’s an apple iPhone issue and they need to address it! It can be quite distracting and Once a song came on, had car screeching and horns in the background, startled me. U can bet if it distracts me and I get in an accident as a result, the lawsuit will force them to address it! It is mit a “Bluetooth issue” I have blue tooth off and have iPhone plugged in!

I tried doing the cord. but then I got wires hanging. So I bought a bluetooth transmitter that plugs into the aux. I hope know one gets into a accident. But that won't cause apple to design something as simple as a switch/toggle in the app settings. Apple has great products. But its really annoying. Gotta hook iPhone, iPad to MacBook just to transfer music. Why cant we do this in icloud. Can do a lot of other things in iCloud. I am really thinking about going back to droid. But I like it how all 3 of my apple stuff are synced together.

porter555 did you find a resolution? I fall asleep with a meditation app/ ear buds that stops automatically after an hour on my iPad mini but get blasted Awake hours after by something from my library ( scared the **** out of me) . Whats is irritating is it being so loud and I’d not been on music app in a month and I have to give a code to log on my iPad every few minutes but this blasts out of no where? Next thing I’ll try is the Netflix app because that is what I’m using before the meditation app.

My problem was resolved with the iso 13.3 update.

I use AirPods during the day and have never had a problem with them coming on by themselves, though I constantly have to turn Siri’s voice level down. I wear wired/corded earbuds connected to my iPhone X when I go to bed at night; that was where I was having the problem with my ‘last played,’ which was usually a book from my Audible app, turning on by itself. The volume didn’t change but it woke me up nonetheless. I did remove, reinstall and followed-up w/Audible but the problem wasn’t coming from their app.

Good luck. Perhaps this latest update will fix your problem.

This problem just started happening to me a couple days ago. I have deleted the music app, shut off Siri and voice control and guess what? Voice control still pops up! When listening to podcasts it starts super fast or jumping ahead.

I had a phone interview this afternoon and it kept hanging up on the person! Extremely embarrassing!

Seriously, Apple?! You must have plenty of well paid geniuses on staff that can figure this out! COME ON!

Here we are in February 2020 and it's still happening - and I use a wireless headset for work and after every call that I'm on the music starts playing on my headset immediately. Like everyone else here, I've checked all the open apps and there is NOTHING open in the background and yet there is music playing... The only way I've found to make it stop (just for that moment) is to actually open the music app and then close it...definitely a bug.

It happens on my Mac Mini. I have narrowed it down to when my wife is watching TV, via out Apple TV box and she changed channels, it triggers my Mac mini to start the Apple Music app with whatever is up next.

I also noticed when one of my daily alarms on my iPhone X is triggered and the music I use for the alarm starts playing, that same track will start on my Mac mini (if not sleeping).

Extremely annoying stuff. I may end up deinstalling music throughout my Apple Ecosystem. May need to find an alternative to my old iTunes use.

Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?
