Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?

Ever since the iOS 13 update, whenever I plug in my headphones to make a call my Music app automatically starts playing music. How do I get it to stop?

Ive installed the bug fix update and I’ve even turned off all settings for the Music app and unchecked all the music folders in the app. I’ve tried everything.

It’s really annoying. Any ideas? Can’t find anyone else experiencing this.

I just want to make some points for Apple to understand how deeply frustrating this problem is for all of us:

  • For each time I plug in my earbuds to prepare for a call, music starts up
  • Upsettingly, sometimes this happens just as I'm about to dial a number
  • Car use is the worst, driving down the road, getting ready to make a call is a terrible distraction
  • Keep in mind, this is a SAFETY issue too (that's why I'm using earbuds)
  • Yes, it is a SAFETY problem
  • Only times I plug in earbuds will be to make calls or listen to music, admittedly
  • Understandably, we all recognize the problem, Apple, why can't you?
  • All of the time, this is how frequently it happens - ALL OF THE TIME
  • Possibly this is a convenience feature, but it is really an "inconvenience" issue too!
  • Please fix this APPLE!
  • Let's all make as much noise as we can about this!
  • Ending this problem would make me very happy

That's all I have to say in making my points. Does everyone get these points?

All:

Temporary work around: I turn off blue tooth connection to my car’s Bluetooth. Annoying and inconvenient. Can’t figure out a solution for ear buds. Ugh!

Permanent Solution Request:

Go to Apple Feedback and ask for update fix to turn OFF auto play. Apple feedback link the is hub for direct-to-Apple requests, and they really DO listen if you post there.

good luck!

I have a WiFi only iPad Air so there is no cellular setting to turn off. I have already decided not to use earbuds or headsets with my iPhone in hopes of avoiding this problem what’s worse is that this may be contributing to sucking battery life from my iPad, which seems to be degrading faster and faster. I already gave up on Macintosh in favor of a Awindoze machine, something I never thought I would do. Is my iOS investment going the same way? Wake the f up Apple!

I haven’t heard anything. Ima give’em till the end of January to fix this bs and then I guess it’s time to make the move to Android. Maybe if enough of us threaten to switch up they’ll actually do something about this annoying bug. I was on the phone with someone with my headphones plugged in while reading your reply to my post and my phone hung up on the person I was speaking to and started playing Bob Marley. How ironic.....and annoying.

It’s not a permanent solution but this is the best link I’ve found, it at least gives you multiple temporary solutions. In my opinion the best way to make your music stop automatically playing with connecting to a Bluetooth device to go to Settings>Cellular>Scroll Down to the Music App that is giving you the issue and Switch the Toggle to Off. *The only downside to this is when you finally want to play music you won’t be able to play it unless you’re on Wi-Fi so you’ll have to go back into settings>cellular and turn the toggle back on. Hope this helps!

Same problem here, whenever I use airbuds or earphones my music app starts playing at random times not consistently. After deleting the app now my podcast subscriptions start playing without touching the phone after several minutes. Talking to Apple they couldn’t find the switch to stop the apps from playing...

This really is not only extremely annoying but often downright startling depending how loud my volume is set when the song randomly starts blasting in my ear or car.

I chatted with Apple Support and just as people mentioned they didn’t seem to know how to fix the issue. The representative transferred me to 2 different “Tech Specialists” and after about 20 minutes they told me to go to settings>general>reset all settings... It not only did not fix the problem but it just made me more frustrated since I had to rearrange all my apps back to the way I had them as well as re download my ringtone and wallpaper. They are going to have to eventually fix this bug for good due to the amount of people who are having this issue. We just need to keep complaining...

Why does my Music start playing automatically when I plug in headphones?
