notifications not working ios 13.1.2

Since installing iOS 13.1.2, I do not message notifications on either my iPhone Xr or my watch. Receives are received, but no notifications. I’ve changed settings on both watch and phone, but still no notifications. Is this a known bug? Fix on the way?

This reset worked for me as well (iPhone XS) - I was intermittently not receiving alerts for both iMessages and text messages for several months. The message would be there when I looked at my lock screen but never made a sound or vibration to alert me. What siamless typed (Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings) is the only fix that seemed to solve the problem (has worked for last 2 months).

This is what "Reset All Settings" does:

-Resets all of your device's settings like Wallpaper, Sounds, Display & Brightness, Background App Refresh, Date & Time, and more.

-Resets Wi-Fi credentials in all iCloud Keychain devices that use the Apple ID if iCloud Keychain is turned on.

-Removes all of your previously used Wi-Fi networks and passwords

-Removes your Apple Pay cards.

-Deregisters your device from iMessage and FaceTime

-Removes your Touch ID & Passcode

-If restrictions are turned on, it resets all of your restrictions.

-Removes Face ID

-Resets accessibility settings

-It removes your encrypted backup password

They found the problem with ours at the t mobile store.

Turn off the second phone line. Software is looking for a second sim card that her phone didn't have. It was trying to find the second number and couldn't because there is not one. Under settings then Cellular. New software is designed for the new iPhone 11's which have two number capability.

Hello again to everyone. So I managed to make my phone work properly!! Everything!! From imessage to notification etc. I will let you know what I ve done in case it will help someone!

So after trying literally everything...First, I backed up my photos etc on my PC. (Be sure that you have a strong internet connection) Then I did the “reset all settings” thing under General/Reset.

Before the reset, I had imessage option off, facetime, cellular and notifications- all off. Once it finished I opened my phone and set back everything on... At first nothing.. So I turned my phone off and after a while back on.. And voila!! Everything is working properly! Personally, now that everything is in place, I will by no means update to 13.1.4. The previews week was a nightmare and I do not have time for experiments!!

Hope the best for you guys..

I had this issue also. From what i understand, it seems to affect iPhone 7, my iPad was unaffected.

From debugging my iPhone, i found that my iPhone 7 is returning NULL push tokens. So only normal sms message / calls and local push notifications are working.

Solution to this, i subscribe to open beta to resolve this. (iOS 13.2). Now i receive notifications no problem.

IMO, there is 2 issues here.

  1. Special case, iPhone 7 (maybe more) have the issue of getting empty tokens.
  2. iOS 13.1 enforces how token should be retrieve. (Most dev did not follow this, and got burned when the OS updates) The old way is deprecated.

iOS 13.2 seems to fix iPhone 7 null token issues. (I am sorry i have no idea about XR or other iPhone models)

So to completely fix this.

  1. Upgrade to iOS 13.2
  2. Launch all apps with notifications (The app should fetch the corrected notifications on launch) FB / Whatsapp / Messages etc etc.
  3. If the app still does not give you notification, reinstall it. (iPhone should prompt the "Allow Notification" again).
  4. If app STILL does not work, you may need to ask the developer responsible for the app.

This is a very bad experience.. hope Apple can resolve this directly.

Just in case you didn't see my reply. Fixed! The total system reboot didn't work (essentially wiping the phone clear as if I were to sell it), but what did work was a restore system settings. I think it's Reset All Settings. Took just a few minutes. My wallpaper went back to default plus a few other things but nothing major. Something else to look into is if you're also on imessage on a Mac computer. That could be causing some missed texts.

It seems like at least with Apple Watch owners the bug has something to do with the notification mirroring. Following up on my previous post in this thread, as I disable the notification mirroring for an application in Apple Watch settings, the notifications for this particular app work normally again on the phone.

Another option is of course to turn off the Apple Watch until this is fixed with an update. Try disabling bluetooth connected devices and retry if notifications work normal again on your iPhone.

Hope this helps someone before the bug is properly fixed!

I had the same issue. Go to notifications under setting and then messages. My notifications toggle was turned off, don’t know why. Switched the toggle and everything was good.

also I just noticed under notifications/mail the sound notification option is set to none. I’ve never changed that setting, it appears that the iOS is defaulting some of these settings to off.

This has been frustrating the H E double hockey sticks out of me. One thing that I noticed in my case is that this started happening for me not after iOS 13.1.2, but after I installed Catalina. I get no Messages notifications on my iPhone X, Series 4 Watch, or 2018 12.9” iPad. I also noticed that I don’t get notifications for Messages on my iMac either. However, if I completely quit Messages on the iMac (not just close the window), my notifications start working again on ALL my devices.

My iMac has a couple servers running on it so it never sleeps. Therefore Messages is always running unless I remember to close it. I noticed notifications weren’t working again today and sure enough I had opened Messages on the iMac and didn’t close it. Closed it and problem gone.

I don’t know if this is the same problem, but if you do have a Mac running Catalina, try closing Messages and see if it helps. Catalina and iOS 13 have been the buggiest releases I can remember.
