Battery Drain iOS 13.1.2 on iPhone

I have upgraded my iPhone 7 plus to iOS 13.1.2. The battery life is not up to the mark. Earlier the battery would run from 100%to 35% for 24 hours with moderate usage. (Battery drains to 50% for 8 hours even when there is no usage at all/no SIM card/ no application installed/background app refresh is turned off/power saving mode is turned on). I tried the following

  1. waiting for 4-5 days believing that indexing will complete
  2. complete factory reset
  3. completely uninstalling all the apps and keeping the mobile as fresh without any data
  4. keeping the mobile in flight mode

But the battery drain is same in all cases. Is this the fault of iOS? My iPhone battery performance is 89%

Thanks for your view and answers.

When I updated to 13.1.2 on my iPhone 7 I found it overheated and battery life was massively diminished - after a few days though it seemed to settle down with reasonable battery life - it then updated overnight to 13.2.3 - in the morning I watched it as it literally lost a % point of life per second - again though it’s settled down and battery life isn’t as good as before but much better than the initial post upgrades - the most annoying aspect is that Apple don’t seem to care and maintain a customer unfriendly silence on issues like this - shame on them!

iOS 13 had destroyed my previously-flawless iPhone SE.

I had a new battery installed last year under the replacement program. Current battery health is 97%. iOS 12 was giving me more than a full day of usage before needing to recharge.

Since moving to iOS 13, my battery life is essentially zero. Basic usage means losing complete charge three times a day, whereas previously I’d never need to charge until bedtime.

I called tech support, and they ran the online diagnostics, which of course showed no problem with the phone itself. So now I have to take the phone into my local Apple store.

Update:

I’ve tried the 1% experiment: allowing my phone to run down to 1% (which takes only maybe 30min of very light usage), do NOT go to Low Power mode, and keep using the phone as normal.

My phone has been running normally, at 1% battery, for hours now.

Again, I have an SE with a newer battery at 97% health. I never had any battery issues at all until iOS 13.

I’ll post back after recharging it, once it the battery hits 0% completely.

I have the same issue with my SE. Battery was replaced by Apple 11 months ago and has 99% max capacity. I'm on 13.2.2. Where I could go a day on a single charge before, it's now down to half that time. On hour of listening to podcasts without otherwise interacting with my phone can drain the battery 30% or more. My wife and daughter who have a 6s and an SE2 have the same experience. There's clearly something wrong with iOS 13.

In my discussions with Apple Support and Apple Care, they are not seeing a widespread issue and whenever I speak to a support agent, they are really asking for more people to contact them with their issue. Even if you do not have Apple Care and your device is an older one, please DO contact them by phone.

They really need your report, so there's more visibility.

This has been going on since IOS 13 in September. Battery Drain. Tried every fix, wipe and reinstall, new battery, blah blah blah. It's the software in IOS 13 updates. iphone 6s still draining. Called support many times. No help. They don't recognize it's a problem. Very frustrating. Really wish they'd respond. There are other threads here and many articles from techs online. THIS IS AN ISSUE. HELP APPLE.

I have the same problem with my iPhone SE. I did all the tricks that I found by googling. the only one which worked was erasing my phone and restoring my back but after 1 week it was again the same. I did for few times and it worked only for a week and the last time even not for a day. I contacted apple and they tried everything to find the problem but they could not. I told them that it is obvious that the problem is iOS 13... because i didn't have this problem before. it is not hardware problem it appeared just right after updating to iOS 13. I was begging them to let me to go back to iOS 12 but they didn't accept. I was a loyal apple customer for more than 12 years when iPhone 2g came out, using mac and iPad. but I am not anymore.

Here is the problem with your response. My battery is only a day older since my iPhone 7 updated itself to 13.1.2 overnight. Yesterday my kid played his noggin for 3 hours straight and the battery was at 70% when he put it down. It’s a video heavy, interactive app for kids. 10% drain per hour.

This morning, after the update, I was on a conference call for an hour, voice only, and the battery dropped to 20% from full charge. So tell me how much did my battery age over night to loose efficacy like that?

This update does not make me happy at all.

just adding my experience too, to add more weight to the issue and maybe Apple will take notice and do something. So I have an iPhone 6S, mint condition, very light user. Battery replaced December 2018, battery health at 99%. When this first started after iOS13.1 upgrade, I missed 13.0, I called Apple support. They went into my phone and did a hardware check. They confirmed my battery health was like new. It 100% confirms that it’s not the battery. We did a complete reinstall. Took ages to complete. Then a few days later 13.1.2 came out. It appeared to improve a little but it didn’t. I’ve had the indicator say 2% and then recharged, so I will try to leave it on until it dies today/overnight and see what happens. I tried an experiment today. Full charge overnight and then hardly touched it all day until this evening at about 5.30pm. I just checked email and the like. Phone started heating up and battery drain started instantly, just like a countdown clock within a minute down from 71% to 51%. So switched it off and back on again 5 minutes later. Battery indicator said 71% again and then started the countdown again. I’m now at 45% within 5 minutes. No apps running excerpt safari and this website. Over the week I’ve turned off apps refresh in background, notifications, location services and much more besides. It’s one of THE worst experiences I’ve had with Apple. This is not what we’re used to considering we’re all paying significantly high prices for the guaranteed product performance.

Hi to all,

Thanks to your replies and suggestions. I tried one of the method given by our dear friends. It went like this.

I allowed the phone to switch off after the battery is completely drained. There was no long duration stand at 1%, there was no sudden jump to 20% in battery levels. It drained uniformly and the phone was switched off.

But the twist is the battery was not charging with any other charger. I was using the original lightning cable and some quick charger of Samsung etc. But this time the phone refused to take up the charge from third party charger. I searched and used the original charger. The battery charged well and reached 100%.

So it is definitely some issue with recent changes in operating system. There should be some change in the charging algorithm which creates lot of trouble. I heard from news that Apple will see whether the replaced screen is original or not and display warning messages on screen. I think Apple is scanning the charger make also to check the compatibility.

I will update in one or two days about the further developments.
