Battery Drain iOS 13.1.2 on iPhone

I have upgraded my iPhone 7 plus to iOS 13.1.2. The battery life is not up to the mark. Earlier the battery would run from 100%to 35% for 24 hours with moderate usage. (Battery drains to 50% for 8 hours even when there is no usage at all/no SIM card/ no application installed/background app refresh is turned off/power saving mode is turned on). I tried the following

  1. waiting for 4-5 days believing that indexing will complete
  2. complete factory reset
  3. completely uninstalling all the apps and keeping the mobile as fresh without any data
  4. keeping the mobile in flight mode

But the battery drain is same in all cases. Is this the fault of iOS? My iPhone battery performance is 89%

Thanks for your view and answers.

When I updated to 13.1.2 on my iPhone 7 I found it overheated and battery life was massively diminished - after a few days though it seemed to settle down with reasonable battery life - it then updated overnight to 13.2.3 - in the morning I watched it as it literally lost a % point of life per second - again though it’s settled down and battery life isn’t as good as before but much better than the initial post upgrades - the most annoying aspect is that Apple don’t seem to care and maintain a customer unfriendly silence on issues like this - shame on them!

I also decided to update and same issues. Unplugged from power this morning and never opened my phone. It was on 100%. Opened phone 90 minutes later and it had dropped to 94%. Opened email and went to this discussion based on latest emails and it has dropped from 94% to 87% in seconds. I will be calling Apple today and post later what they say.

I have spoken with Apple Support just now, we ran a diagnostic on my 6S and he confirmed there's no issue with the battery, the health is perfect. Well it should be it is only 1 year old (through the apple replacement program) . He then recommended to switch off 'background app refresh'. This I had done previously with 13.1, but when 13.1.2 came out or was it 13.1.3, oh flip I'm losing count, anyway which ever one it was and the battery was behaving slightly better, I switched background app refresh back on.

So he then suggested I should monitor what happens for a few days when app refresh is off, then if it performs better start switching some apps back on, one by one to see if it is a specific app that is causing it?!

As I am talking to him (and app refresh is off) the battery dropped from 92% to 81% , then I had to check train times on an app (UK railway app) because he suggested I can also take the phone into a store and they will run a deeper diagnostic on the phone, it dropped from 81% to 72% literally within seconds. When I relayed that to him, he then said YES this shouldn't be happening.

He concluded seeing as the battery health is fine, it has to be a software issue. He's half saying it has to be an app, but the only difference between yesterday and today is iOS 13.2, so it HAS to be Apple's software.

To be continued...

I updated my 6S to the released version of iOS 13.2 and for me the problem is worse. Quick battery drain from 100% to about 50 - 60% and then it accelerates to 40% and then crashes. The phone restarts and shows anywhere from 1% to 9% battery and usually crashes again. When I put it back on a charger, it immediately shows ~ 60% battery!

I replaced my battery at the Apple Store about a month ago. Still 96% of battery capacity which is still frustrating. IMHO it should still be at 100% after only a month.

There is no question in my mind that Apple is either ignoring this major problem or secretly trying to find a fix. My problems are similar to those being described -- and I've spent an hour on the phone with Apple, then two hours with the "geniuses" in the busiest Apple store in the world at Century City in LA. I have a IPhone6s with a 11-month old battery. What's the story Apple???

Another update from me. Updated to 13.2. Battery seems to be decreasing a little slower but not much. Had to replace the battery in my IPhone 8 a couple weeks ago. Had 95% charging power but still had to replace it. I think Apple should reimburse us for having to replace the battery because of it being their fault. I was doing great until IOS 13 came out. Never had to replace a battery in any of my Iphones, going back to the Iphone 4. Now this within 12 months. Pathetic.

@marine1948, yeah I suspected as much, but I still wanted to do it, because that way it gets into their system and hopefully will find it's way back to their engineers. Also I wanted to make sure I did everything I could. I spent money to travel in to Birmingham and it took up half a day of my time too. So when I blog about this, I am showing everyone that I've gone through the motions. In fact I needed to have travelled to Birmingham to done the full reset, they could have done that with me over the phone, although I could see all the stats they got from my phone and the activity and the Genius was in full agreement that it is an issue what she saw. That's enough for me. She had not seen this thread either. So back home now and up to 100% charge again, so will see what happens over next 2 days.

iOS 13 had destroyed my previously-flawless iPhone SE.

I had a new battery installed last year under the replacement program. Current battery health is 97%. iOS 12 was giving me more than a full day of usage before needing to recharge.

Since moving to iOS 13, my battery life is essentially zero. Basic usage means losing complete charge three times a day, whereas previously I’d never need to charge until bedtime.

I called tech support, and they ran the online diagnostics, which of course showed no problem with the phone itself. So now I have to take the phone into my local Apple store.

@nitrony be careful the moderator will remove your comment if it is a rant, they did with mine, so if you use the a.p..e name in your post I’m sure it gets flagged. I feel your pain we’re all in the same boat. I already went to the Genius Bar, it may no difference it got worse as all they did was a reinstall.

I have also not restored from back up so been running a clean copy.

Also updated to 13.2.2 but as I’m not comparing like for like it’s hard to know how well it’s performing.

I just opened my notes app and as I’m on a clean version it had to download all my notes (1,700) from the cloud.

It ran my battery down from 100% after a full overnight charge down to 56% in just a few seconds.

I have a follow up call with support today unlikely that they can do anything but we’ll see.

Just keep a battery pack handy at all times when you’re out and about.

Actually I will if they will provide one to us?!

Update Nov 10

after my follow up call with support, which was scheduled after my visit to the Genius Bar in Birmingham UK they escalated my case to senior support. So after being told to run my phone without restoring for a few days, now I’ve been told to restore from back-up and then run for a few days. After that on Wednesday Nov 13 they will take logs from my phone and submit to engineering. They are also logging this as a complaint. After 3 calls and one visit to a store they are confirming the complaint. If you have the time and inclination please continue the process of reporting it, the more complaints can be lodged the better. Success. ツ
