Removed case and glass from LCD as Apple Support want. Problem still persists. I found that turning ON VoLTE helps! As long as phone is connected via LTE there is no echo; when it switch to 3G - it starts echoing. My carrier told me to turn off VoLTE. That that's all what they can do...
This happened to me and my girlfriend. I’ve discovered if you have the phone standing up on a table or anyway the speakers are slightly covered it echoes. So if you are talking to someone and cover the speakers it will echo. If there is no obstruction of the speakers it’s fine. I imagine certain phone cases will cause this.
I was on the phone for a long time with Apple Support on several issues. They have heard complaints about the speaker issue and it does not matter what the network is - not all phones but the problem has been reported on all carrier networks. They need to hear from you so that they can prioritize this issue on the list of things that need fixing. They were VERY helpful on those issues for which there is already a fix or an identified work-around while a fix is pending.
Everyone with this problem needs to call Apple Support and formally register your complaint during your warranty period. They know this is an issue but they need to know the extent of the problem. That is the only way to get their attention. And by complaining within the warranty period you prove that this was identified right after purchase. In our case, they refused to swap the phone with the problem for a new one, we were told to just wait for the fix. But we are on record as trying to this fixed almost immediately.
I think the best thing you can do is register your issue with Apple Support. Make sure that they log your name, device serial number and the issue. Once there is a fix you will be on the list. Contacting this community page is great for all of us to help each other, but at this point the best next step is to register the fact that your phone is one that is impacted by this problem.
This is a hardware problem like I’ve stated before. Can you imagine Apple recalling all these phones? I’ll be very surprised if it happens.
The only way I can use speakerphone is too turn my volume down below 50% and have the other party do the same. Also make sure your speakers aren’t lying on an flat surface (having your phone propped up). This will cut down on the reverb so the microphone won’t pickup wants coming out of your speakers.
For such an expensive device, it sure is a shame a multi-million dollar company that’s been through numerous revisions of this phone still can’t get s*** right
I was having the same problem while I had the speaker phone was on everyone I talked to could hear themselves talk (echo) I have finally figured out how to make that stop!!!! Make sure that you go to “accessibility” and then “Audio/Visual” and make sure you have the “Mono Audio” turn ON I have attached a picture as well for everyone to see! 😁
IOS newest fixed!
I temporary solved it. I transferred the call to an external speaker and worked fine. Hope that they fix it soon.
I’d be curious if you get a response. Something my wife and I noticed, is that if you hold your phone while on speaker at the bottom, or against an object; the sound is being picked up as an echo. as another user identified probably due to the microphone being too sensitive. Apple needs to address this. I’ve never had this issue with any iPhone I’ve ever had and I’ve had a lot of em’...🙄😤. If you get a response please update if you don’t mind 🙃
Ive been to so many of these topics I can’t remember if I posted here or not, but I’m wondering if there are two microphones at play here.
Here’s something to try, go to your messages and bring up the animoji section and record a message. It’ll auto play the message for you to review. If you listen to that message the microphone picks up every little noise in the proximity of the phone. It’s very sensitive. On mine, my phone seems like it’s at the back of the room.
Now go to your Voice Memo app and record a message there and play it back. You should hear a noticeable difference in clarity and the voice portion should seem more in the foreground.
i was toying around trying to find a solution to this annoying problem.
I have complained on this forum before and contacted Apple tonight and to say I’m disappointed would be an understatement. Basically, I was told that it is a problem with the engineering of the phone as the speakers are all around and that is why in some cases they say to take off your case in order for it to sound better and to turn down your volume. I explained that there are many with these sane concerns and we are very disappointed. His only resolution was to report this once again. This is outrageous!!! Therefore, basically they do not think it is a software or hardware issue. It is simply stated as the way the phones are built/ a flaw in design- nice huh?!
I am having the same issue. I went to the Apple genius bar on 10/15/2019 and the lady restarted my phone brand new. It did not work. I speak and Apple and android users daily. I was getting from family and friends that the echo was getting very bad. So i went into the Apple store yesterday and he swapped out my phone after running so many tests. I no longer had echos with apple calls but with androids the echo was still there. The guy from the Apple store suggested that I get a new sim card to maybe correct the echo. I went to TMobile and swapped out my sim card.
The echo is only when i use speaker phone ONLY. When I have in my air pods or the phone to my ear or connected to my vehicle, there is no echo.
Like i'v mentioned before but no one follows the thread is not the phone that is causing the echo is the new IOS is software problem that Apple i'm sure they are going to fix it with the new IOS release so if you did not back up the iphone with the 13.1 not the beta or the one that did not have this issue you are not going to fix this problem no matter what you do !
I have an older backup so my problem went away ! :)
Hope this helps your frustration !
