iPhone 11
Plug your iphone in
Open finder
Scroll down on the side bar on the left hand side of the finder window until you see "Locations"
Click on your iphone
You'll have to "trust" the computer when prompted to do so on your iphone.
Once that process is complete open up the music app on your mac and you'll see your iphone under "devices" on the left hand side.
You can now manually drag and drop music into your iphone like before.
Agreed! I wish I have never "downgraded" to Catalina!
This is making me wish I was not with Apple anymore. I do not want to have things in the cloud and do not want Apple Music. All I want, like before Catalina, is to easily manually manage my music and copy to my iPhone.
If this is not to be fixed I will certainly be looking at alternatives....
I don't think that Catalina is a bad upgrade personally, but to destroy the way iTunes works is an extremely bad move and it is disenfranchising millions of users. I hope Apple is listening because it is impossible to get in touch directly with them. They believe it was a good move but by thinking themselves smart they've done themselves in. This could well be the straw that broke the camels' back (the littlest change to the system that destroyed their followers belief in them).
I'm in business so I find the system a great relief compared to Windows and made the switch in 2010 but it seems to me that Apple is going the same way as Windows. Changing things for the worse so that the company's software developers have a job in the future fixing their mistakes AND getting paid for it? Maybe it's time for a mass move to Linux?
Further to my earlier post, the problem is getting stranger by the day, ripped 2 new CD's on Friday both refused to copy to my iPhone, however 2 days later they copy without any issues without the need to create a playlist - however the CD l ripped today will not transfer, which leads to the question - does a restart help?
I have taken the advice from johnfromcavendish and submitted the problem using the Apple Support app,
hope somebody is listening!!!!!
Now, if anyone can tell me how to remove song easily that would be great. All I see is manage storage in finder. But that is terrible. Hardly any info and no bit rate. No album info. Hardly anything. Have to scroll to song name.
So I did a complete wipe and reloaded all my data on Mojave a few weeks ago because of Catalina being so screwed up in this iPhone file management respect. Has there been any catalina updates to fix any of these issues?
This is an absurd problem that needs a fix.
I can't add an album (via songs) to my device, as the option is greyed out. I can't drag a Recently Added album to my device. This is the very basics of what Music should offer. I've rebooted, updated, wiped my iPhone's music library (200GB) and tried to start over, all to no avail.
When I use finder to try and add music, album artwork is stripped out and individual songs appear as the only track on an album (a fun feature when I have 51 tracks on a new album). When using my phone (XS), sometimes I see the music I just copied over, sometimes I don't.
I don't want to create playlists, I want to manually add albums as an album.
The inconsistencies and the broken functionality is unacceptable.
This is the best detailed description of what is going on that I have read so far.
the only thing I would add is that the new Sync interface sucks wax fruit. A spinning circle and then a little timer? That’s it?
So much for the details. Apple has got to be reading this stuff. I’m really hoping R&D takes notice and gives us back some of what made iTunes so great. Come on Apple, we know you can do it.
Does not work - that's the original point. Menu choice of "send to device" and the connected iPhone are available but nothing happens. IMHO modern developers haven't a clue what they are actually doing - opinion of a retired developer glad to no longer have to work in the environment
I would just like to add my voice to this one. It's January 26, 2020 and there is no end in sight to this frustrating and horrible problem. I can add music to my iphone, but never the same way i did it last time, i have set my phone to sync over wifi, sometimes it works like that, sometimes i have to connect it, sometimes i have to create a playlist on the music app on the mac and then some other times i have been able to drag and drop directly from the "recently added albums" to the finder on the graph that shows me the storage distribution on the device. it's never works the same way twice and what's worst, sometimes even when it said it works the music doesn't show on the iphone and i have to delete it and add it again for it so show, sometimes 3 times. Listening to music on my phone used to be a source of joy and has now become something i dread and i have to take time to do. I wonder where did "Just works", which used to be what apple used to say about their products went? the current status of this is shameful, please do something.
It's February and I'm still seeing this same bug. It's infuriating. Is Apple going to address this major bug soon? I can drag and drop all music that I had in my library before Catalina, but anything I added to my music library after cannot be dragged to my iPhone.
Hrm. This didn't work for me. I'm using the lastest software versions.
On iOs, there is no Settings -> Music -> Sync Downloads
Did you mean Settings -> Music -> Sync Library?
Also, "Sync Library" in my Music app is already unchecked. Still having no luck dragging and dropping music to iPhone 11 Pro.
COME ON APPLE!!! This is totally your fault and you're not fixing the problem.
That's a wonky workaround! But if it works, that's great. Shame on Apple for this even happening.
Questions:
Are you able to manage your playlists as well, by drag and drop?
Are all of your songs showing up right away or do you have to wait for everything to "sync" (forever)?
For the time being, I'm using Google Play Music which is so much easier. And faster. I don't have to sync, turn off sync, turn on sync, wait for hours, watch some songs appear and other get ignored....
I'm done with Apple Music and iTunes. I canceled my Apple Music subscription. If they ever fix it I might go back but until then, forget it.
I am so frustrated.
I add new music to my computer - an older MBP 15 - and i try and drag it to my phone. Only works occasionally. After a restart, it might work - some time.
This morning i did a test removing a couple songs from the phone. 5 tries and 2 restarts later i can not get the songs back on the phone.
It works, but Apple, why are you so dedicated to making thing worse every time you come out with something new? You are pushing people away from your products and services because no one in Cupertino apparently cares.
Yup another disastrous thing with Catalina and new apple software.. i tried lots of these things and NOTHING.. it just refuses to add a playlist manually...
Its amazing they have 30 products these days and yet the basics like PUTTING MUSIC ON YOUR PHONE and voicemails etc they are terrible at.
