I have this problem too, I manually manage my Music library on my iMac 2015. After updating to Catalina I could no longer manually move music drag between the Music app and my plugged in iPhone. The iPhone icon to the left on the Music app didn't light up when I dragged music onto it.
I finally solved it.
Place the music you want to move into a new playlist on your Mac, then drag the playlist to the left hand iPhone devices entry in the Music app and its then allowed and loads OK. .
This must be a workaround to a Catalina bug, I can't believe it's intended as the only way to manually manage your music between mac and iPhone.
Could you explain how to do this please?
Select in finder your iphone, manage music manually
open music app
select iphone device
drag and drop the file
Marcus
That doesn't help. Music app just lists the songs. Any playlists are not manageable.
you create playlists from iphone
This my issue as well. I have a new iPhone 8 Plus with a Macbook Pro 15 running Catalina.
Easy, plug phone into Mac, open up your music library, right click on song that you want to transfer to iPhone.Pick( send to device)should show up as your iPhone name.click on that and Voila!
are you sure you're running in the new MacOS Catalina?cause doesn't worked for me. I had to subscribe to apple music just to sync my songs through the iCloud.
FYI Apple. If you don't fix this, and you try to force me to use your new streaming music service rather than allowing me to manage my own music, I'm done with the iPhone forever.
I think people are missing the point. Catalina doesn't allow you to manually manage your music. You have to sync to be able to manage any playlists.
Well that’s a joke if so. Apple needs to get on the ball and fix this immediately. Taking away capabilities is not what a new update should be about. That’s called regression.
where u create the playlist? on music app or where? i tried music app playlist and other place like desktop dragging to device with no results......
thanks for your video, but doesn't work for me...
Thanks. This worked, but is clumsy. I hope Apple lets us go back to dragging and dropping a song or an album onto the iPhone.
If they don’t do that Catalina is a joke and unusable for me
Thanks for the tip. This works at a basic level, although it doesn't take the album artwork with the music files, which I don't like. It's a nice bandaid for now, though.
