Thanks libwak for posting that info. I just installed 10.1.14 and it seems to have fixed the problems with the graphics tearing. I was able to open up a movie project, do some editing, and then export to a file without any graphics problems. In my case the "reduce transparency" and "increase contrast" settings never made any difference. But now it's (hopefully) all fixed.

I tried the same as you. I have problem with video in timeline. It is not in sync. The sound is in sync. Got the problem after opdating to 10.1.13.

I can confirm that I too have the same problem (10.1.13) displaying when you attempt to access any pulldown menu, or indeed DOCK item. In my case purple blocks etc looking similar to what Chris Torrence was showing. Another clue might also be that, for me at least, this has been happening in the same way, when using VLC player (VideoLan) for some while now. No older versions seem to correct the error!

However, I have already reverted to iMovie 10.1.12 and NO problems, but as you may have already guessed, you can no longer access the iMovie library created (modified) by 10.1.13. For me though, the previous version works OK every time i use it.

It does seem to be related to graphics in some way or another. I'm still on Mojave and will be unable to update anyway! iMovie and VLC are the only two apps to cause this problem.

• THANKS so much for posting these workarounds to fix the problem with the menus; until finding this article, I was "dead in the water" with producing movies.

10.1.14 update has fixed it. Yay. (Until this, your solution was the fix. Thanks!)

In my case I did not have either one of those options checked (they were both turned off) and I still had terrible graphics issues with iMovie 10.1.13. Downgrading to 10.1.12 made the issues go away.

I figured that Apple would fix the issue fairly soon with an update. Good things come to those who wait. 😊
