I have been to the Apple store in Amsterdam 3 days ago. They tested the phone and it appeared that 1 of the receivers was broken. Therefore they replaced the entire screen (which includes the receivers nowadays). Took 1,5 hour and everything works fine again.

FOUND MY PROBLEM ... I was awaiting my new case, so I had left the plastic it came with on the front screen to protect it. until the case arrived. This caused a "crackling" sound from the speaker. Peeled back the plastic, the "crackling" was gone. Put the plastic back in place, the "crackling" returned.

The salesman at the Verizon store also suggested he had seen people put their permanent screen protectors on upside down covering the speaker opening resulting in similar "crackling" noise.

I just purchased my iPhone 11 Pro and found that it was crackling and muffling during speaker phone use, FaceTime, and music playing louder than half volume. After looking up various videos and some instruction on how to adjust the left or right speakers, I could tell the feedback was coming from my top of screen speaker.

It then crossed my mind to just remove the plastic cover that came with the phone off of my screen (It was covering my speaker up). This has resolved the issue! I hope everyone else has an easy of a fix as I did. The speakers are crystal clear now in full volume.

Mine wasn’t because of the plastic still on the phone. The one speaker was literally about to blow on any level. So I returned it and got a new one sent to me a couple days later and it’s fine and I’ve been using it since. So it’s only some of the phones that are doing it. I love my 11 Pro Max now. I have a screen protector and a case on it and it works the way it should be working.

it's likely not your phone but rather the caller's microphone.

It always happens to me when facetiming with one particular friend.

I usually ask them to switch to iPad or use airpods, which instantly gets rid of the distorted sound in my case.

Next time it happens ask them to use a headset to test this out yourself

Ok so I was using “Speck” brand covers .. I sent my original phone to apple for repair under warranty with this issue .. they have sent me a replacement phone .Tried the replacement phone with a new SPECK case .. still breaking ... I changed my phone cover to some unbranded cover called “NEON”and voice is not breaking for now .. try it out...

I also had that problem and after reading more than 100 suggestions to solve the problem I decided to try the simplest thing first, which is what they say in the video. first identify which speaker is heard badly if the left or the ear (in my case the right one sounds very bad and ugly) and then look for a very fine and soft toothbrush and also a needle. I inserted the needle gently without pressure into the small holes of the left speaker that is on the bottom of the iphone and then put the toothbrush in front of it several times until the small holes were black or there was no dust not dirty. With the upper right speaker slide the needle gently and without pressure along the small frame on the edge of the speaker and also clean it with the toothbrush and magic! both speakers are already heard well! I do not understand how something so simple in my case apple does not suggest or advise that we do that to solve the problem!
