Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

Ok so im no a big Mac guy. I just recently bought my 1st Mac but have owned a iPhone since the start. I was experiencing the same issue with my photos. I was messing around earlier and figured out a way to get my photos synced with my iPhone from my Mac. I had my photos in individual folders with the album inside of of the folder. I opened the folder and left clicked on the album and dragged it out of the folder into the column that the folders are in and dropped it there. I then checked the box beside it and was able to sync it to my iPhone then. Well i hope this helps with the problem for everyone

I just tried with the last ( not beta ) version of iOS and MacOS, and I still face the same problem: can't sync albums that are in folders in my Photos library. :(

Is Apple aware of this problem ?

At least now I can sync my music. With the precedent version it didn't sync some songs, complaining about copyright ( including songs I bought on iTunes..)

The weirdest part about my experience now is that it will sync 18,651 photos and 1,143 videos, but leaves exactly the last 50 unsynced (or exactly 50 somewhere, not most recent and I can't figure out which are missing.) and continues on my 11 pro Max to say "syncing" in the photos app for 10+ hours as of right now. All of that despite the MacBook Pro showing the sync was completed 9 hrs ago. Even a soft reset does not remove the "syncing" on my phone...

I have been testing some options of syncing some of my photos. Rather than selecting Photos, I selected Pictures, which gave a list of folders that I have within it, eg Affinity Photos, Luminar etc. I select the Luminar folder and then synced the photos to my iPad. That worked ok, but gives all original photos, ie not edited. There is no option pick selected folders within the selected Picture Folder. That suggests to me that bug in syncing photos from Photos is within macOS Catalina.

It is not just albums put in folders. No matter how I organize them or import them, nothing syncs like its supposed to. About 8 months ago, Apple changed iTunes for windows so that the carefully organized folders that I had in a certain order, no longer synced in the same order when transferred to my iPad and iPhone. When I called for support, I was told that folder organization would only work with a Mac from that point on. I assume the only reason they did this is to force me to buy a Mac. Well mission accomplished! I went out and spent $1800 on a MacBook Air so I could get my photos on my iPad back to the order I meticulously set up over the years. Well here I am, and I can’t even get all my albums to transfer, and the ones that do have a fraction of the pictures in them. No amount of screen sharing or other tech help does anything to help. I guess I have to go back to my PC laptop and resync with that. I would rather have all my pictures out of order then none at all. Maybe in 2 years or so when Apple maybe fixes this, I will recharge the Mac. How the **** did they put out an update that nobody checked for photo syncing? I am so tired of updates that make matters worse than better.

Yes, there seems to be a lot of confusion now in this thread.

The original issue is Photo "ALBUMS" located within "FOLDERS" on macOS Catalina Photos.app (and perhaps Mojave?), not syncing with iOS devices using a USB Cable (or perhaps WiFi aswell). - Via Finder.app (Not iCloud)

I so far have tested Catalina 10.15.0, 10.15.1, 10.15.2 (most recent developer Beta) in conjunction with iOS 13.3 (Developer version) and this does not work.

Some people have suggested dragging the ALBUMS outside of the Folders directly under the built-in "My Albums" level. I think its fair to say most of us have had success with syncing albums when we do this step however, for me, its a total mess and looks very unorganised in Photos.app on Catalina.

So, i have reported the issue several times using the online feedback forms., If this is not resolved this week i will start calling. I just don't have the time during the week to spend hours on the phone with them over something i know will not be resolved by the person troubleshooting. In my opinion, this is something the software "engineers" have to fix.. getting their attention is near impossible. Unless someone knows a tech YouTuber who will have contacts? lol

I completely understand where you are coming from with reference to moving the albums out of my folders to directly under “My Albums”. In order to have some resemblance to order and know what is what, I would have to rename all of my albums to reflect the dates.

I have also reported the issue but based on past response, I’m not holding my breath for Apple to to fix the problem any time soon. One of the problems is they feel that the way they set up a program or eliminate a program etc. is the right way. It took me 3 years of dealing with them about my last MacBook Pro before they finally admitted it was a lemon and they replaced it.

When I synch using Finder, I have a different flavor to the problem.

All the photos that I take with my iPhone synch just fine.

Any that I take with my Canon ELPH PowerShot do NOT.

But - if I edit the Canon photo (on my iPad) and put it in Photos, it synchs just fine - the meta data still show the Canon data for the photo.

Sure would like to see all my Canon photos on my iPad and iPhone.

Will consider to shift to the other brands, eg. Huawei, which is even more user friendly and convenient to use as compared to iPhone. APPLE just don't take care of its user. The recent changes in MacOS and iOS took me a day to reconstruct my iTunes Library (it is basically a structural change). And now, I have spent a DAY to fix the issue of sync my photos but in vain. WON'T expect APPLE will solve or able to solve this issue in a short period. What is an iPhone when it fails to show your photos you keep in your PHOTO (which is also the APPLE's product). REALLY, EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED with APPLE !!!

To be honest, I moved my Movies and TV show from the old library to the new TV app, very simply with a drag&drop. My books are managed in Calibre ( over 30000 books).

The audiobooks are a bigger problem: Now they are managed in Books app and stored in internal drive. Can't store them in an external drive anymore like before :(
