Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Hi - am so sorry I did not keep track of which version I used. I had the latest version installed and ALSO installed an older one (I used my Time Machine backup for the installation) and had both versions on my machine at the same time. I had no issues with that (I hadn't done that with any other software before).

However I looked back at the thread I posted some months ago with a similar issue (iTunes not synching) and someone posted that they used this particular version:

iTunes 12.9.2.5 (build 06/11/2018)

so if you have a way to get that, go for it. I don't think my version was quite that old but am not sure.

You do realize this is only for Mojave, I hope - you can't run iTunes on Catalina at all (to my knowledge - at least I could not).

Hi. Actually as noted in past postings, you need to mention this at https://www.apple.com/feedback to create awareness for Apple. Many of us on this posting has done so. Hopefully it will make an impact!

This problem has been going on for me for EIGHT MONTHS.... way before Catalina.

To sum up quickly, I am not using Photo app. I have thousands of photos and videos on my computer in separate folders that I personally organized. I am syncing them to a 2017 iPad Pro. They are all in there now, but if I need to sync just one single picture again, that process has to literally take up the WHOLE NIGHT. It just has to read and scan everything all over again to just add one file. Before, a simple task like that took maybe 20 seconds or less.

It is beyond frustrating.

I, like others, have sent MANY notifications and requests to Apple to fix this problem.

but EIGHT MONTHS and even several updates later, the problem is still here.

Please Apple. This tiring issue really NEEDS to be fixed.

Hi - thanks for remembering me! 😀 Yes - had to revert to an earlier version of iTunes to "fix" that issue from March. Now I have started this thread since I do not use the Photos app. (Somehow I accidentally marked it "solved" even though it most definitely is NOT!)

Have been reporting to Apple for months, with no feedback from them at all. Frustrating to say the least.

I have been in contact with high level support on the issue over the last few weeks. They have taken screenshots and diagnostic files from me and a few days ago admitted that the issue has now been recognised by the software engineers to be a bug ( I think we could have told them that ages ago but .... ) and a fix is being worked on for a future update to Catalina ( timing of course TBC )

Complaining about the bug in this forum will not have any impact as Apple does not monitor/take any notice of posts here ( this was specifically stated as part of my discussions with them ) so the only way to keep pressure on them and to keep it high priority is to :-

1) call up Apple support to report the issue. Note to say the issue is about direct syncing via usb/wifi using the new Finder process and albums within folders not syncing and NOT Cloud syncing as that is a separate issue.

2) if you do have the issue above, report a bug on Catalina AND on Photos with Apple on the following sites

again being specific about the selective sync via Finder and albums within folders not working

Keep the pressure on and hope for a speedy resolution.

It 100% will not sync albums that are located within a folder as opposed to albums being located in the root of the organisational structure

Apple need to work on this...

Just so you know, this thread is (mostly) about using the Photos app. I have a similar thread (not solved, though I goofed and somehow marked it as solved!) 🥵 for synching withOUT using the app - just using Finder with pictures in folders via USB. It still is not fixed by Apple.

Just maybe if they hear from enough people they will move a bit faster in correcting the glitches in Catalina.

I can't speak to the use of the Photos app, but had a very similar sync issue with Mojave, had to install an older version of iTunes in order to sync properly (earlier this year). My point is, the issues goes back several months (in my experience).

Well as much as I enjoy my inbox being filled up with this discussion I hope that everyone has taken to leave feedback and leave a bug report as John Duffy1 suggested earlier. That's really the only way Apple will see the issue.

I don't use the Photos app, never have. All of my photos are in folders in Finder.

But I still cannot sync properly using Catalina. Had the problem in Mojave and had to roll back iTunes.

I have an open case about this and after spending much time with agents who had me doing silly stuff like starting in Safe Mode, I did get to speak to a Photos team expert who confirmed that Apple engineers are aware of this issue and are working on it. So it doesn't matter about them reading this, because they know.
