Mac Os Catalina do not sync photos with iOS Devices

Im using Mac OS Catalina 10.15, I have my photos on the Photos App, (I do not use iCloud photos).

To sync the photos, I connect the iPad to the Mac, open Finder (Since iTunes is gone), select the iPad from (locations) go to the right and click on Photos, select the albums and then hit sync. All the photos are not synced and apparently it syncs the albums under the root "My Albums" but is not able to sync the albums that are inside a folder.

Wow. Brilliant. It won't help everyone, but this helped me. I only wanted two folders of photos on my iPhone, the one of our cats and another album of selected photos. So, by moving those albums to sit under 'My Albums' instead of being sub-folders, I was finally able to get the photos I wanted on my iPhone.

Maybe this trick will help some others as well: if you can live with just a few albums on your phone, move them under 'My Albums' and then synch your iPhone through Finder.

Thanks Diego!!!

Finally solved this after 2 weeks:

  1. Updated Mac Mini to Catalina 10.15.7
  2. Updated both iPad and iPhone to iOS 14.0.1
  3. On iOS devices, Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

After the reset, my albums showed on the Finder - iOS devices - Photos and I could sync my photos to them again!

I have had the same issue and it has existed for about 6 months in Mojave and continues in Catalina.

The only way I have been able to sync to my devices is to uncheck photos and remove them from my device; delete the iPod Photo Cache folder from my Mac, and then re-sync fresh. This still takes forever, and you have to do the same step for each device. And tany time you want to resync your device to your Mac, you will have to do it again.

Apple needs to fix this immediately - it is unacceptable.

I also called Apple Support. The analyst I got says this problem is NOT with their engineers because they simply do not have enough user communications stating that this is a wide spread problem. I told her to google it and she will get thousands of hits. Her reply was that they do not have access to google from her work computer. OK, I can understand that since Apple considers Google the Evil Empire, but if you don't have a better option... I even told her about various threads of this problem, including this one, on their own Apple Support site. PLEASE everyone, log this onto Apple Support and mention this "bug", so they can recognize this as a problem. That's the first step before they even consider fixing it. BTW, her solution was to reinstall the upgrade. I do not want to spend 2 hours like some of these other postings with them and end with the same result, so I politely declined. https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html https://www.apple.com/feedback/macos.html

Apple,

Please, please fix this problem. I really need to be able to organize photos and videos on my MBP into specific folders and then sync those folders to my iPhone accordingly, as I have done for many years until Catalina came out. This is definitely a Catalina OS problem. Please fix this problem ASAP. I am a loyal, committed Apple customer, but this problem is EXTREMELY frustrating. Please get this fixed ASAP!

Hi, I had the same problem however, all that was necessary in the end to do to solve it was to change the Photos settings to sync on iCloud: 1. open the Photos app, 2. go to 'System Preferences' 3. go to 'iCloud' 4. check 'Photos on iCloud'.

The operational system on my Macbook is in Czech therefore I'm not 100 % sure if I translated the individual steps in the process exactly as it is in English but I suppose it won't be too different.

I'm Glad (and disappointed) i'm not imagining things and im not the only one experiencing this. given both my devices exhibit the same symptoms many others mus be experiencing this as well. I'm beyond frustrated with this. FFS this is their (Apple) own IN HOUSE OS's (iOS,padOS,MacOS) , Hardware (MBP,MB,iPhone,iPad) and software (photos app desktop and mobile). There is nothing third party about this and they still manage to F this up majorly. And worse they do not acknowledge anywhere that this is a problem. How did this ever pass acceptance testing and made available for General release. This is such a poor experience but for many users .We simply can't just and easiliy migrate our lifelong collection of memories and media to another platform. We need to have the TRUST that they can deliver.

I too have spent a couple of hours with apple support - upto level 3! with this issue. My original problem was not being able to sync a new album of photos. After two hours of help all my synced albums were removed from my iPad!!

The suggestion was to update both iPad and Mac operating systems so I am now on iPad 13.1.3 and I have updated the Mac also but it still calls itself 10.15.

So I have tried again syncing and it does sort of work but only small sized photos are synced such as one taken on an iPhone or and old camera that only produced 4mb files. More recent photos taken on a Nikon which creates 20mb files were not transferred.

So some improvement but Apple still need to work on this
